"Wow. Colour me surprised. I did not know Mr. Rich, hot and sexy still stuck around. Seriously what did you do to him?" Zach says as a way of greeting as I enter the building.
My mind was still replaying an image of Kenny in an unending loop, the second I told him I wore no panties. The look of pure desire and unbridled lust. Good, now the two of us were feeling the same amount of sexual frustration.
"Huh?" I say distractedly.
Zach tusked at me.
" You are a goner aren't you? Anyway. I saw your position has changed, you are now one of the game creators. Congratulations." He said handing me his usual coffee and doughnuts. I smile at the familiarity of it.
"Wait, you already ate far more expensive doughnuts and even more expensive coffee. You don't need mine." I take it from him quickly.
"Of course I need it, it is my congratulatory present. Plus, every one needs more than one cup of coffee a day." I emphasis on this by taking a huge sip.
I see a tiny smile on his face and realize. All the lust I felt for him had disappeared. If he smiled like that before, I used to squeeze my legs tightly together to take off some if the pressure. But now I felt like I was talking to a friend.
"And your horny eyes disappeared too. Are you really Lisa?" He squints at me dramatically.
I chuckle, he noticed it too. Wow, Kenny must have done a number on me. I have always lusted after Zach. Even when I was I love with Greg.
"I need to get to my new office so my manager does not think I am careless." I tell him.
He only walks with me as I go, matching my stride with ease.
"Thank you Zach. For every time you turned me down. I would have hated to not be your friend ever again because something happened between us just one time."
He snorts,
"I saw you as a sister. A little sister. Nothing would have ever happened. Besides, I have zero interests in females."
We pass my old station and i am not with a pang of nostalgia. Kenny met me there for the second time. That place has been my rock and my own place for a while. I was definitely going to miss it.
"You could have told me you were gay from the beginning."
"It was fun watching your failed attempts. And I was not obligated to tell you."
We step into the elevator and i am not with the memory of me going to his office, I am tempted to go there again, but he must be hiding his identity for a reason, I had no right to unhide what he took great pain in hiding.
"I wanted to get into your pants, I think that is obligation enough." I say as I finally punch the button for game creators floor.
"Tomayto, tomahto. Also, I think I finally figured out your mystery guy."
I hesitate. Then remember that this was Zach, he read me better than I read myself.
"Why are you following me this early in the morning Zachary? Don't you have other people to be a creep to?"
I refuse to look at him. I stare right ahead, pleading for the machine to stop soon. It does stop, at another floor as others piled in.
"You used my full name. You are hiding something. You definitely do not want me to find out anything about your new lover."
I ignore him, and glare at the elevator, willing it to move faster. But Zach just leans in closer, and i can perceive his aftershave, Kenny's aftershave smells better. A small smile appears on my face at the thought.
"You are thinking of him right now are you not?"
I clear my throat, straightening my features and looking at the number pad.
"Is your lover a married man?"
The door slides open and i slid out, not bothering that this is not my floor. I run away from Zach and his questions, I know it was not long before he starts questioning other things. And I was not going to give away Kenny's identity, even by accident.
I run into Danielle, literally as I head to the staircase. Luckily there were no spills, even my coffee did not spill from the Styrofoam cup.
"Lisa was it?" She asked with her nose in the air.
I swallow, pushing down the jealousy that she and Kenny slept together before. He even told me it did not mean anything, and it was way before us.
"Hello."
"I didn't expect to run into you this early." Her smile was tight.
"Me neither."
She looked around us, "You might be in the wrong floor. This is the game testing floor."
I nod, even if I didn't know what floor I was on.
"Yeah, I decided to walk. A few more floors is nothing."
She chuckled, "You are in luck, it is just right upstairs."
I thank my lucky stars. I don't think I wanted to walk that long. I thank her and try to side step her when she stops me.
"You are his girlfriend now right?"
I hear the words ringed with jealousy, might be nothing, might be something, but I heard something.
"Yeah. He asked after i got the job."
She smiled it didn't reach her eyes, "congratulations. I tried my best but it was not meant to be."
I don't want to think about what she tried.
"Yeah well, see you around."
"Don't take him for granted. He will cover your whole life expenses and retirement expenses. God knows it is better than the extra five grand every month to keep his identity a secret." She chuckled.
I frown, he paid her sixty thousand a year just to keep his identity a secret? Why? What was so terrible about his identity coming out that he pays so much to keep it hidden? And what will happen if Danielle wants more than he can give? What will happen if she gives the public his secret
