KENNEDY'S POV
The reward for hard work and diligence must be her. My brain tells me as I stand there staring at her, telling myself it wasn't just a dream. She stood there, she must have recognized me as well because she stared at me openly. I had worked incredibly hard with the Japanese that the universe blessed me with something I've been wanting.
She was just as beautiful as she was that day, she was just as attractive, and still made my veins crawl in excitement.
Before she could disappear into thin air, I latch onto her wrist and run away with her.
Cam burst out laughing.
"You must have thought you were in a movie didn't you?"
I cursed at him, this was someone I was telling my predicament.
"Cam are you going to listen or you're going to sit there and mock me?"
He held out a hand as he laughed, signalling me that he was totally out of it and is trying to gather himself.
I sigh, taking a sip from my soda. Our food arrived late, she had already left before it came. I already planned to leave a review they weren't going to like.
"Okay go on." He had managed to curb his laughter.
"I brought her here, and she still refused to give me her real name."
"So she did confess Clarissa Jones wasn't her name?"
I nod.
"She better be worth it, we danced around in circles trying to find a ghost."
The kiss came back to mind, I wasn't expecting it, but she gave me anyway. And as my mind processed the kiss,
"I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have done that." She stammared.
In shock I just stared at her wide eyed. Her eyes bulged too, and she got up abruptly.
"I have to leave." She told me before sprinting out.
Of course I got up and followed her, but by the time I got outside, she had disappeared into the crowd of passers by. Typical New York thing.
I had walked back inside the fast food, called Cam immediately, he had to know obviously, he was my wing man.
"That was brutal, but it does show that she's just as affected by you as you are affected by her. But something is holding her back." Sometimes Cam was wise, I look forward too much for those times.
I grunt and put my head in between my palms. She was someone I have been anticipating for weeks and when we meet she bolts out of my life.
"You said you she was at Bavard? You think she works there?"
I looked up so fast my eyes blurred for a second.
"Yeah I think so, wouldn't it be ironic though, all this time she was right under my very nose?" I ask him.
He nods seriously.
"It would be ironic but not impossible. What department did you see her again?"
"I saw her at the reception." I remember it too vividly.
"Who is your receptionist?"
I frown at him,
"I meant you should find out who your receptionist is, she might be the one you're looking for."
The statement was all it took for me to get up and start my journey back to the office.
"Wait let me get these." Cam said picking up the sandwich that I hadn't already eaten.
I placed a twenty dollar bill on the table as Cam and I walked out.
"You didn't bring your car?" His eyes looked at me in shock.
"I ran here, did you bring yours?"
"Are you sure you aren't in love with her? This is far beyond lust." He commented as we walked to his car.
I don't respond to him, he always had crazy theories and dwelling on them was not something I'd tell people to do with Cam's advice.
"This sandwich is trash." He told me.
"Then why do you keep eating it?" I sigh, exasperated.
He gave me a cheeky grin.
"I honestly have no idea."
I close my eyes, trying to imagine how it looked on the outside. A girl kissed me and I couldn't do anything but stare. Inside I was mush, I had looked for her everywhere and when we met despite what she says she kissed me first. I was goo, melted at her feet. But outside I must have looked like a naive elementary school student getting his first kiss.
I feel the car stop, letting me know we were there, and before Cam could get out, I fly out of the car, walking into the building, a part of me hoped I'd see her again. Not giving in into the disappointment I felt in my gut, I walked to the receptionist desk. I saw a lanky guy standing around it so I just ask him.
"Where's the receptionist here?"
He looked up at me blinking,
"She already left."
I felt Cam walk up beside me.
"What's her name?" Cam asked.
"Lisa Porter." He looked scared as he answered. But I didn't even stand around to thank him, I needed to find out if she was Lisa, or she didn't work here and I had to start looking for her again.
"Lisa Porter." I say. Playing with the name, testing to see how it sounded. And it felt great.
"Thanks." Cam told the guy as we walked away from him.
"What are you doing?" Cam whispered harshly.
Like a brick, it hit me, I was wandering around, with my face out. In this day and age where anyone could take a photo of you and you wouldn't even know till your photo is splashed across the internet.
"Let me handle it." He whispered again.
I nod at him, grateful that he always brought me back to my senses.
"Now, where can we find the files of those who work here?" He asked.
"Admissions office." I point at the department.
He nods and take the lead.
Inside, only a few people were left. Cam walked in with a confident smile. I stood silently by his side.
"I'm here from the labor force, my name is Earl. I'd like to see your receptionist department and their list of names." He sounded like he was honest.
"Labor force? Did we do something wrong?"
Cam shot the lady a smile that she actually blushed.
"No, of course not, it's just a mandatory routine."
"The only receptionist has clocked out."
I turned to face her, there was just one receptionist?
"Ok, what's her name?"
"Lisa Porter."
My heart began to pound in my chest, my hands became clammy in anticipation.
"Can I see a photo of her?" Cam asked again.
"Sure."
In the time the lady used to search the system for her picture I could have gotten a heart attack with the way my heart was beating, hard and fast.
"Here." The lady said showing Cam.
When I peeked over his shoulder.
It was her.
