LXIII
I was so disorganized, my movements were disoriented and lack of sleep put me in one of the foulest moods known to man.
"What do you mean she is gone?" I ask the girl who I assume to be Rhea.
The girl was trying to flirt and failing woefully while I tried to force the information I wanted out of her.
"I mean she is no longer here. She has gone."
I groan internally, if this was whom they hired, they had a lot coming for them.
"Why? She was here just last night, I saw her. Heck I brought her." I was getting frustrated. Thoroughly.
"Man, I don't even know. She just packed her stuff and took an excuse before leaving. I think she paid for her own flight ticket back."
I cursed. Was it because of the emergency evacuation?
"Listen, I have to go, they ended the seminar early because of the evacuation. It was stupid anyway and unnecessary. But here is my number, I would love to stay and chat, but I can't afford to miss my flight. Call me?" She was scribbling something on a sheet of paper and I walked away.
Where did Lisa go all of a sudden? From what her roommate says she left even before the evacuation. Did something happen to her? Alcohol poisoning? No, no, not alcohol poisoning. She went home by herself, that tells me she was okay. Okay enough to travel. A family emergency then?
"Kenny? You aren't packed yet?" Jonathan's voice reached me.
I looked around, somehow, subconsciously I had ridden the elevator up to my room and for some reason I was just standing in front of it and not going in.
I scratch my stubble that had grown overnight, I made a mental note to shave as soon as I got home.
"Go in and pack man, why are you spacing out like that?" His voice sounded irritated.
That made both of us. After watching the news yesterday night I could barely sleep. The police couldn't respond to Cam's assault because they were handling a murderer, and he wasn't far from where we slept in, how could I sleep and feel safe after hearing that?
A few hours later my body grew so tired, it shut off. After what felt thirty minutes of sleep, mom called because she heard the news, she was all panicky and told us to come home immediately.
As if that was not enough, there was a loud, very unnecessarily loud announcement coming in from the speakers.
"All visitors have been asked to evacuate the building as a safety protocol. Lakeview hotel is extremely sorry that this happened, but as our customers, your safety comes first. All visitors have three hours to evacuate. Lakeview will communicate when we will be re opening. Sorry for inconveniences caused, but we are also grateful for your co-operation."
Everyone in the hotel started to run around in a rush. Everything was in a hurry, movements here and there. That only caused me to have a headache.
You'd think that was the worst that could happen until I went to find Lisa, maybe all of this nonsense would make sense, and the world will finally slow down. Unfortunately, she wasn't there. And I had no idea where she was. Well I heard from her roommate that she was going home, so I guess she was back at NYC.
"I already packed up your stuff! Let's go! Jonathan is getting cranky." Cam said holding up a travelling bag and smiling.
I jumped out of my skin at his sudden appearance.
"Where did you even come from?"
"I was in here the whole time, I already finished packing my own stuff, so I decided to come help you pack yours. I already knew you planned to leave them here if I didn't pack them anyway. They are good stuff, I will not let you do that."
His right eye was opening up a bit, but it was red. And the cut on his lip remained. It made me angry to think that a woman could just claim assault and the guy would get jumped, I guess it does wonders when the woman is the victim. But nobody really thinks if the guy is being framed because the woman lost in a battle if comebacks.
"What about breakfast?" I ask him.
He started out the door,
"We'll have it on the jet. Come on, let's hurry, Jonathan might skewer our ass if we make him come up here."
I follow him down.
"Did you talk to Lisa?" He asked as we rode the elevator down.
"She already left." I grumble.
"What? Why?"
"I don't know too, I'm also wondering." I sigh.
"You can find out though, you're her number one stalker. You know her work place." Cam said smiling a huge smile.
I look over to him, he was way too cheerful this morning. Especially in the state of hurry.
"Also, you have her phone number. Remember?"
By the time the elevator dinged to indicate the stop, I felt almost as happy as Cam. I did have her phone number, from when I was stuck at her house. My foul mood had instantly switched.
"What took you so long?" Jonathan grumbled as we came into view.
"Oh my sweet brother Jonathan. I'm so sorry we kept you waiting, please don't take it out on Cam, it was all my fault, but we are here right now, right?"
Three of them stared at me in shock, but it didn't matter. Nothing did actually. I had Lisa's number and I was going to talk to her as soon we touched NYC grounds.
"Hurry up and come in!" I wave to them with a smile.
"I wonder if the weather is nice down at NYC, I don't want it to rain." I mused out loud remembering the last time it rained.
"It should be." Clarissa grumbled.
I give Jonathan a questioning look.
"She's mad that the vacation is ending sooner than expected, she's mostly mad at the killer."
I felt a chill run down my spine again.
"That guy is no joke. How do you kill someone? Take the life of a person. He's so scary. Doesn't he know how precious life is?" Clarissa's voice rose with each word. She wrapped her hand protectively over her stomach.
"That's not even what's worse, I mean it's bad, but it's not half as scary as the fact that this killer has the M.O of different murders popping up randomly all over America. They say, we might have a serial killer on our hands."
