"You sure you'll be okay alone?" I ask Lisa worriedly.
But she wasn't worried at all, her eyes were glazed over, and she was all giggly and smiley.
"I will be fine, don't worry about me hunky."
We were standing in front of her room, she was hopping on the balls of her feet.
"Hunky?" I ask with an eyebrow raised.
She giggled into her palms.
"Because you're a huge hunk of sexy."
I bite my lip to stop a groan from spilling out, self control be damned if she called me sexy one more time, I'll be going in that room with her.
"I really don't want to leave you alone tonight." I tell her honestly.
She was too drunk to be left alone, what if she left the room on her own after I left? I couldn't even imagine something happening to her.
I had thought of bringing her with me, but I didn't want us to sleep in the same room, worse, the same bed. Or else I might lose any ounce of self control I think I have.
She giggled once more.
"Like I said, don't worry about me, I have a roommate."
That was new to me, I hadn't heard anything about said roommate or even seen her.
I try to peek into the room and from the little I saw, nobody was there.
"I can't see anyone. Who is this roommate?" I knew it was going to be someone from work.
"It's Rhea, the newly employed Receptionist. I forgot to add that I now work in shifts, but with the same salary. Isn't that wonderful?!" She cheered.
I smile softly, they had heeded my request. At least she won't be the only one in that department.
"She's inside, I won't be alone. Go now, Cam's waiting." Her voice was still high pitched.
I still hesitated.
"I had fun today, It was nice meeting your brother and his wife. Thank you."
I smile at her, she smiled back. I felt my heart do a small flip. What was this woman doing to me?
She stretched to the tip of her toes and kissed me on my mouth.
"Goodnight hunky."
My lips stretched.
"Good night Mimosa."
She nodded before swaying inside and shutting the door. I sigh. The feeling was bittersweet. I missed her the minute she walked into the room.
My phone buzzed in my hand, the caller ID was Jonathan. I yelped, I almost forgot about Cam. I speed walked into the elevator.
"Are you guys in my room?" I ask as soon as the line connected.
"Are you kidding me? Of course not, we are in Cam's room. And hurry." He hung up before I got the chance to say anything.
Cam's room wasn't at the top of the building like mine was, so it was quicker to get to. The first thing I notice when I entered was the fact that Cam had already turned the room to suit his taste, there were pictures of food everywhere. I sigh, the guy knows we won't be staying here longer than two days.
"What happened?" I see Jonathan first, he was pacing the room.
I leaned in to see Cam sitted on the sofa, and Clarissa was dressing his wound.
My eyes bulge and I run straight to him. His right eye was swollen and there was a cut on his lip.
"Jesus Christ Cam, what the fuck happened?!"
The last time I saw him like that was in a high school, he came back from school proudly showing off his bruise. I was so mad at him then. I was even madder now because he should have known better.
"Did you hurt them back? Please tell me you hurt them really bad." I ask him.
He winced as Clarissa applied some ointment on his split lip.
"How come nobody is talking? What happened here?"
"He managed to get beat on a vacation that's what happened."
I turn to face Cam, I must have looked scary or something because he raised his hands above his head like he was surrendering to me.
"I ran into the woman from the elevator. She said some words, I said some more words, and when she couldn't come up with a smart retort, she shouted for help that I was about to assault her." He explained before rolling his eyes.
I closed my own eyes.
"You could have ignored her Cam."
"I could have, but I didn't." He shrugged as if we were agreeing to disagree that tomato was a vegetable not a fruit.
"The guys in the area didn't bother listening to my side of the story, I guess they have a lot of assault cases here, so they jumped me together."
I sigh.
"Why didn't you just tell them you were gay?" I ask in reference to earlier when the woman assumed we were gay.
Jonathan stopped pacing and stared at me, Clarissa too stared at me wide eyed, Cam's eyes bulged as well.
"She accused the two of us of being gay earlier and Cam encouraged her thoughts." I explain to them.
It was like they released a collective sigh.
"So did you report to the police?" I ask hoping to change the topic, it was getting awkward with the gay thing I said before.
"Yes, but for some reason, all the cops around these parts were busy. So we got no help from them. Instead Jonathan jumped in. Luckily the two of them got out relatively safe." Clarissa expantiated.
I look at Jonathan, his knuckles were wrapped up in gauze. Some vacation this was.
"If only I was there to help out." I whisper. Suddenly I felt bad, Cam would always jump in to save me, no matter the time or place, even if he was pre occupied, he would drop everything for me.
"Don't sweat it, you were with Lisa, having the time of your life, the actual reason for this vacation."
The words twisted inside my gut like a knife. I felt so guilty I almost threw up.
"Besides you didn't even know about it. I couldn't call you because I was so drunk I didn't realize the thing in my hand was actually a phone, not a brick. So it's my fault really." He grinned like the idiot he was.
I sigh.
"You guys can go enjoy the rest of your.. evening. I'll look after Cam."
They share a look.
"Are you sure?"
"He's my burden okay, you guys have helped me out a lot. Thank you. I really appreciate, but it is no good staying awake when you're that pregnant. Like I said, my burden. I will sort him out."
"If you put it like that, we do need some shut-eye." Clarissa yawned.
"Goodnight then." Jonathan said to both of us as he steered his wife out of the room.
"Goodnight." Cam and I chorused as they left.
"So did you chase them out so we can make out?" Cam asked while wiggling his brows.
I couldn't even be mad at him so I just lay down on the sofa.
"Go to bed, I'm here watching you."
He yawned, i knew he opened his mouth to argue, unfortunately the yawn had other ideas.
"Alrighty." He plopped down on his bed.
"Kenny?" He called out in a low voice after a few minutes.
"Mmm?"
"Goodnight."
I smile at him.
"Goodnight Cam."
Few seconds later it was just the television, Cam's little snores and I. There was a cooking show on, if only Cam was awake to see it.
"We interrupt this program to bring you emergency news. There was a murder around lakeview hotel, the police hasn't released any information other than the fact that the guy murdered was about 6'5, brown haired, and his name is Clyde Frank. The murderer is on the loose and if you're out there, please be safe, and do not go out there unless you absolutely have to. That's all we have for tonight."
Chills ran down my spine as I realized. The name of the hotel we were staying at was Oceanview.
