We stood there for a while. Neither of us moving a muscle. The relief that flooded my veins as I saw her, drummed my ears. I squeezed her tighter.
She stood still for a minute before raising her hand to pat my back slowly, steadily trying to get me comfortable.
I appreciated her efforts, honestly I did. But the mere fact that she was standing in front of me, pacified me even more.
I felt safe. I felt like nothing could touch me, in that moment I felt invisible.
"And you refused to let me in?!" Cam gasped dramatically.
His sudden entrance caused Lisa to jolt and slide away from me. She took two steps away from me, instantly plunging me into the feeling of unsafe.
I pinch my eyes shut, if only Cam wasn't my best friend, I was sure it wasn't that hard to hide a body.
"Why are you still here?" I finally look towards him, he had changed from his sea colored beach shorts into a bright yellow one. I winced at the sharpness of the color.
"I left, after you ignored me for almost two hours. I was going back to my room when I ran into, guess who.." he gasped dramatically while using his eyes to point towards her. If his aim was suspense, he had failed as always.
I roll my eyes at him. And turn to face Lisa, she looked between us awkwardly. Her feet bouncing up and down lightly.
"Want to come in?" I ask.
Her eyes bulged, looking from me to inside the hotel room.
"I don't mean that, you don't have to look like that." I say lightly.
She still looked skeptical.
"Do I look like I'm in the mood for that?" I gesture at my body.
I was wearing the hotel's bathrobe. Not really helping my plea, so I sigh.
"Look, I'm not in the right frame of mind, I won't do anything you don't want me to. Even if I was okay, I won't do anything if you say no. I'm not even up for it right now."
Her bright eyes look at me sharply, an expression on her face that I couldn't decipher.
"Really?"
I knew what she was asking. So I snicker a bit.
"Not if you want to. I couldn't say no to that."
I nearly face palm at that. That was not helping. Almost ruining everything.
Fortunately she let out a little laugh, relieving me.
"I promise, I won't touch you. If you want don't me to."
"Oh my goodness, you guys are like a middle school couple. It hurts my eyes to watch." Cam screeched. He walked into my room like it was his. I was just about to tell him to leave before he spoke.
"There, I made easy for you. I'm here, would that make you comfortable?" He directed his question at Lisa.
Her expression broke into a small smile. As if in slow motion, she took a step into the room. Somehow, for some unknown reason I held my breath.
"Wow, I didn't expect the room to be this huge." She commented as she scanned the entire room.
I shut the door and followed her, Cam was giving me thumbs up from where he stood. I managed to smile back. I was nervous, but grateful.
"I definitely didn't expect this room to be this size."
"What did you expect?" I ask just as she plopped down on the couch.
"I don't know.. I just didn't think it would be this sophisticated."
I walk towards the fridge. I hoped there was something to drink there, I hadn't check before.
" This sophisticated? What do you mean?"
I find the fridge full, with different drinks, ranging from alcohol to soda.
God bless whoever put these here. I thought.
I grab a coke and two beers, not knowing what she'd like.
"Not to offend you, but this room screams money."
I show her the drinks for her to pick one, my brows pinched together in confusion.
"What do you mean?"
She picked the coke. Our skin contact was non existent, she was careful not to touch any part of my skin. I felt disappointment pool at the bottom of my stomach.
"I've never seen you go to work, or heard you say you wanted to go to work. For someone like that.. you don't really expect them to live in such a lavish hotel for the weekend." She opened the can in a swift second.
Cam and I stood in silence, staring at her for a hot minute before Cam burst into a fit of laughter.
She stopped chugging on her drink and raised her brow at Cam.
"What is funny?"
"It's just.. he's.. Kennedy is.."
"He works from home." I cut in.
I pass him a can of beer, silently communicating that he was not supposed to say anything. Especially since she worked there.
"I work from home."
She nodded but didn't look like she completely believed me.
"Why did you come back? I was supposed to come get you." I say quickly, changing the subject before she could dwell on it too much.
"Oh, we finished earlier than expected. So I decided to come find you instead."
I nearly choked on the beer I was sipping.
"By yourself.. without me asking. You wanted to find me?"
She nodded slowly. But she didn't meet my eyes. Mine shot to Cam, but he was doing a muted cheer from the bed. I could see a few drops of beer spill on the bed. I made a mental note to chastise him later, for now, I had bigger fish to fry.
"Why?"
"Why what?" I was sure she knew, she was only stalling.
"Why did you come find me?"
I refrained myself from asking the obvious, why did you come find me when I usually sought you out?
"You said we needed to discuss whatever this was. And I had a lot of free time."
I swallowed thickly.
"Who is he?"
"Who? Adam?"
I nod. She knew who I was talking about without saying anything.
"Adam's a friend.."
I could have sworn I felt lighter at the sentence, I didn't know why, but I felt like giving the sky a high five.
"So.. what's this.. between us?"
