Sara was one person that didn't warm up to people easily. Unlike the others with supporting family, she didn't have it easy coming out. Post surgery, she was the first son, actually only son of her parents. She was her father's star child, her father was prejudiced against his female children, and he had them in abundance, five of them. So of course, Sara was his favorite child. He took the Sara everywhere he went, showing off to his friends, and making her struggle with her sexuality all the more.
She didn't come out till she was nineteen, and she confided in one of her sisters, her sister went straight to her dad and ratted her out. The hatred she received from her father that day could not be compared to anything, her mother shunned her. Her sisters made a complete jest of her.
The next day, her father took her to different places, to remove the spirit from her, the spirit that didn't let her go. She went through all sorts of things, according to her, at a point she wished it was a spirit and it would flee from her. Only that it wasn't.
Soon, everyone in their neighborhood knew about it, they made her a laughing stock, parents used her as an example, so their kids don't turn out like her. Unable to take the shame, Sara ran away.
Taking all the money her dad and mom had on them the night she fled. She came to New York, and before she made any friends, she made the right body modification, transforming herself from Isiah, the boy everyone hated to Sara. The beautiful, confident, go getter that trusted no one.
When we became friends with them, everyone except Sara warmed up to us. Mariana and I tried our best to impress her, but she wasn't impressed. She took her time warming up to us, but once a while, she couldn't control her snarkiness. And God, it annoyed me to the end of the world.
So when she assumed I liked Adam and was being bitchy to me instead of asking me directly, I almost wanted to punch her in the face. Like the next morning, while I was in a hurry to work, we met right outside the door of both our apartments, she gave me a deathly glare, and when I opened my mouth to speak, she walked inside the apartment and banged the door in my face. I made a mental note to have a serious conversation with her when I got back, she can't be bitchy like that because of her assumptions. Especially when I didn't even know she liked the guy.
I had forgotten all about it by the time I got to the office, the work load on my desk that morning prevented any thoughts from coming to me. But the work load definitely did not deter Noah.
As soon as I sighted him, I ducked, hiding behind my computer and hoping to God that he didn't see me.
"Blocking my calls and texts wasn't enough? You're blocking me in real life now?" His tone was annoyed.
I slowly get up, there was no point since he had already seen me.
"Why don't you just say it and get over with like an adult?" He snapped impatiently.
"Say what? That I blocked you and I am hiding from you right now?"
"Why?" He bit back instantly.
"I'm in a committed relationship now." I lie.
"Bullshit. I call fucking bullshit, I've seen you lie, so I know when you do."
Too stunned to speak, i gap at him like a fish out of water.
"You must think I'm an idiot don't you? The idiot guy that comes back even after he was blocked without any explanation."
"I.." I didn't even know what I was going to explain, but I was going to try my best.
"I thought so, you have no explanation. I hope whatever it was, is worth it." Was the only thing he said before walking away.
Feeling the energy zap out of me, I collapse on my chair. I didn't even understand where the guilt I felt was coming from, but I couldn't feel guilty. I wasn't supposed to feel guilty, we weren't friends, there was no feelings involved, it was just a relationship based on pleasuring each other. I did give him that to be fair. Judging from the splatter of his seed all over, I think my judgement is spot on.
"You did it." Zach's voice brought me out of my thoughts.
To my credit, I wasn't startled by his voice any more, in fact, if he hadn't come in all his creepiness, I'd have gone to find him.
"And now he's mad at me."
"What did you think would happen?"
I shrug lazily, "I thought we'd remain friends at least."
He gave me an eye that should ask if I was crazy.
"It was worth the shot right?"
"No, but at least there would be no lingering feelings and what not."
I nodded. Then listened to the voice that told me something was off.
"Where is my coffee and doughnuts?"
He raised his thick eyebrows.
"You noticed?"
"Of course I did, did I ever complain about it to you?"
He looked away for a minute before looking back at me, but as usual, I couldn't read any emotion off of him.
"Well you never said thanks, anyway you'll be getting it tomorrow." He walked away after saying this. Making me blink in confusion, you could never figure out Zach.
A guest stopped at my desk, temporarily distracting me from my thoughts. And by time I looked up from my computer, I see Adams face smiling down at me cheekily.
Startled, I gap at him for at least two minutes.
"I don't know how long I can keep smiling and pretending like you're not weirding me out." Adam whispered after a while.
"I'm sorry." I tell him sincerely.
He chuckled nervously.
"I get it, you're shocked."
I chuckle, "yeah I was pretty shocked."
"We did say we'd go get the clothes today, right?"
My eyes find the time on my phone. It was actually closing time.
"You didn't forget right?"
I laugh a little, and start packing up my things.
"I didn't, i just didn't know the time."
I clocked out and we started to leave. What I saw outside made me halt in my steps.
