She kissed me back for a few seconds before pulling back. My lips tingled from the kiss, the cold air that blew my lips made me miss the warmth of her own lips.
The kiss blew my mind, better than anything I would have imagined. I felt everything at once, I felt like a kid who had his first kiss. Her lips were addictive because I wanted them again, and again.
She looked dazed, like she was confused if she liked it or wanted to kill me for it.
"Uhm.. I.." she stuttered as she blinked.
My heart was pounding really fast, I feared she was going to make me leave again.
True to my fear, she started to walk away from me. Before I could help myself, I hold her wrist, stopping her.
"Why do you avoid me so much? You try so hard to avoid me, why?" I could hear desperation in my face and quite frankly I didn't care about that.
She turned slowly to face me, her eyes roamed the entire place, avoiding my face.
"I can't do this.."
"Why? Do you have someone you're seeing?" Yes, I made it sound like I wanted a relationship from her, which was far from the truth.
Her eyes shot up to meet mine for a brief second before looking away. What she didn't know was, my breath was knocked out of me in that one second.
"No, not that." She assured.
My shoulders sag in relief, if there was no one, then she was apprehensive.
"Why don't we take this slow then?" I ask her. I nearly face palm, take what slow? Two of us knew we were not talking about feelings here, so what exactly did I want to take slow?
"Maybe, who knows?."
I was just about to ask her to coffee or something before a head shot out of the building, it was a guy, he called out her name. His features looked stern, and from the tag on his shoulder, he worked for Bavard.
"Duty calls, I have to go." She tells me before slipping past me inside the building.
It was more than obvious she was avoiding me, I didn't know the reason, but I think we both felt what I was feeling between us.
Not having where to go, because I didn't want her to see me slip into the book store and know I was watching her, I decided to go see mom, and maybe Jonathan.
My phone vibrated and I see Jonathan's name flashing on the screen, just the devil I thought of.
"Can you come pick me up?" I ask him as soon as I accept the call.
"Hello to you too brother."
I roll my eyes, Cam must be close by, either that or he had learnt it from Cam.
"Why do you think I'm your personal driver?"
"Are you coming or not?"
"What if I had not called?" He wanted something, that's why he was dragging the conversation.
"I'm going to hang up now." I warn.
"Hey! Hey! Wait a damn minute. Can't I tease my favorite brother? Where are you even?"
I hear Cam's voice in the background sighing.
"I'm your only brother, I'm in front of the office." I hang up before he said worse things than he already said before.
Few minutes later, I spot his car roll in, Cam was riding shotgun. I shook my head, these two together did not mean anything good. Cam waved at me happily like a child, if you didn't know him, you'd assume he was as innocent as the child he was portraying. Cunning bastard.
"What do you guys want?" I ask as soon as my butt hit the leather seats.
"You and your annoying intuition." Jonathan says as he shook his head.
I sighed, sinking into the seats, if only I could disappear. They were stalling because they knew I was going to be difficult to convince.
"Clarissa wants us to go to Miami for a weekend."
I didn't open my eyes, I didn't see why they needed to ask for my permission.
"And how does this concern me?"
Jonathan chuckled nervously.
"You know I came back for Cam and you, I don't want to leave you guys any more."
He was so sweet,
"We aren't five, you should go with your wife, one weekend without your annoying ass wouldn't do us any harm."
"That's the thing, you're coming with."
My eyes opened to find Cam smiling in excitement.
"Me?"
"Cam and you."
I scoff,
"Take me to mom's house, you guys can go, I'm not coming."
I wasn't going to leave Lisa just when I found her.
"Why not?" This was Cam. He sounded confused.
"Because some people are not like you, some of us don't jump from place to place for fun, I like where I am." My tone was a little harsh, but if I said it kindly, they wouldn't understand that I was being serious.
"When was the last time you travelled?" Cam asked, he didn't even sound the least bit angry.
"I can't remember." I tell him grudgingly.
"Then let's go and have fun together, this would be a great bonding opportunity for us."
I snort,
"I already bonded enough with you, and Jonathan will be bonding with his wife."
Just then Jonathan entered the gates to the house, I almost fly out of the house. If I stayed there a bit longer, I would have agreed somehow.
I ran into mom on the steps, she didn't look surprised to see me, however she looked pleased.
"Kennedy. It's lovely to see you." She hugged me tight.
Instantly I relaxed, my muscles relaxed themselves into her hug.
"It's been too long since you saw me right?" She laughed.
I didn't respond, I just enjoyed the serenity.
"Come, let's have tea."
"Yeah, I have so much to tell you."
"About the girl from your office?" She chuckled.
I was about to be shocked, then I remembered my best friend was the gossip center.
As we sat, Jonathan and Cam joined us.
"So what is this I'm hearing about you not wanting to enjoy your youth." Mom said shocking me.
I shook my head, of course they would say something. Traitors.
"You'll be going, you have no choice."
