I hadn't laughed like that in a long while. Tears even sprung from the corners of my eyes as I laughed. Cam was the most excited about it, his laugh was so innocent it was fun to watch. The actors did a perfect job delivering their lines, and they were so funny, I especially liked the female lead, she was funny but not in an air head kind of way, altogether it was a great evening.
"Did you enjoy yourself?" Kennedy asked as he steered us outside.
I nod vigorously. I did forget everything for the one hour we stayed inside there.
"Yes I did, thank you so much. You know how much I wanted this and you delivered." Cam sounded like a kid on a sugar high.
I look at Kenny, our eyes meet, I know it was me he asked the question, he knew too, but Cam answered, I shook my head slightly to tell him not to mention it. Already I had a feeling Cam didn't want me there, like I was intruding on their best friend business, if he knew Kennedy was not asking him but me, it would put a damper on the mood.
"Let's go get dinner, Thai food, my treat." Cam said, he was still looking at Kennedy when he talked, like my opinion didn't matter. I don't blame him honestly, if a guy came on Mariana and I best friend date, I think I would be petty about it as well.
"Do you like Thai food Lisa?" Kennedy asked me.
I see Cam frown so I quickly nod and smile.
"Then Thai food we shall get."
Cam eyed him a little before going into the car.
"Did I say something wrong?" Kennedy asked me.
I bite my lip and consider telling him what I noticed, but it wouldn't make sense, plus I didn't want to cause any rift between the best friends.
"Kinda, he wanted Thai food, and somehow it was settled on Thai food because I agreed."
He looked like he didn't get it.
I sigh,
"Let's go first."
Cam was quiet the whole ride to the Thai food restaurant. You would expect him to gush about the movie and everything else, but he kept mute the entire time. And that made me antsy. I wanted him to talk.
"Did you get their autographs?" I asked him.
"Yes."
One word.
"And pictures? You take any good photos with them?"
"Yes."
I try to sound enthusiastic.
"Can I see them?"
"I'm driving Lisa, I need to concentrate." His tone was harsh.
His scolding made me retreat, i felt like a wounded puppy.
"Whoa easy man, she just asked a question." Kennedy came to my rescue. And I want to tell him not to, but at the same time I wouldn't have liked it if he let Cam talk to me like that.
"And I said I was driving." His voice had grown softer with Kenny. I almost snort at his obvious dislike towards me.
"A simple later could have sufficed. You didn't need to sound like that at all."
Cam said nothing, but I see his knuckles turn white, like he gripped the steering wheel too hard.
"Are you okay?" Ken whispered into my ear.
I nod, because I can't speak. For the first time it's not from the sparks I got when we were that close, it was the sharp pain. It was there again. In the lower part of my abdomen.
Cam drove roughly into the parking lot of the restaurant. Kennedy's head bumped into mine.
"Fucking hell Cam, are you okay?" Kennedy asked but his voice was calm.
I almost tell Cam to man up that I wasn't here to steal his best friend but ride him, if he wasn't used to new presence he should suck it up and stop being a big man child until I realize a vehicle almost ran into us and he drove like that to avoid the head on collision.
"Yeah, yeah I'm fine." I hear his voice say but from the review mirror I see he is white as a sheet of paper.
"It's okay, it's okay. Just breathe, we are all okay." Kennedy says softly as he rubs his back.
I pass him a bottle of water and he takes it from me gratefully. For five minutes Kennedy spoke soothing words to him as we sat in the car.
"Okay, I'm okay, let's go in." Cam spoke, his voice stronger now.
"You sure?"
"Yeah, let's go eat, I'm starving."
And we go inside. Kennedy was by my side, his hand never leaving mine, even while he spoke with Cam, his hand never left mine.
We sit at the far end of the restaurant, It wasn't full as it was already late, but we were there so I guess it wasn't closed yet.
"We should have our usual." Cam says to the waiter.
"What will you be having?" Kennedy asked me.
I look at the menu to avoid seeing Cam's face.
"What's your usual?"
"Pad Thai, it's stir fried noodles." Kennedy answered.
It sounded good, but I know Cam would feel I was encroaching on their thing.
"Khao Soi." I pick hoping it tasted as good as it looked in the picture.
"Have you had that before?" Kennedy asked when the waiter leaves with our order.
I pick at the table cloth,
"Nop."
"Then why didn't you try what we are having? At least we know it's good."
Because of your jealous best friend. I want to say. But I beam.
"I want to branch out, try other options. Besides, I can always eat your food and mine right?"
He smiles at me.
"Yes, yes you can."
"You guys make it so painfully obvious that I'm third wheeling here." Cam commented with a nasty frown on his face.
Kennedy and I sat beside each other, and Cam was directly opposite him.
"You are even more dramatic than the girls you date." Kennedy says while rolling his eyes.
That caught my attention.
"He had dramatic exes?"
"All of them were dramatic."
"How dramatic?" I ask Kennedy.
He chuckled, Cam looked uncomfortable.
"I don't know what he does to them during sex, maybe leave them dry and hanging, but they always make dramatic scenes because they want sex from him."
My eyes turn to face Cam, I had to confirm my suspicions. He looked away.
I'm about to say something before I feel another sharp pain. I quickly go through my phone. I open my health app, the red is glaring at me.
"Shit."
