The two hour flight to Miami felt longer than it actually was. Maybe because my mood was extremely sour, or the P.D.A Jonathan and his wife displayed in front of me. Could be Cam's unbearable singing, who knows?
"Oh my gosh!! We are really going in HIS private jet?" Clarissa tried to whisper because I heard her like it was me she was talking with not about.
I had opted to use the jet because I couldn't manage myself to the airport.
"Oh come on!! Be more lively!! We are in Miami!!" Cam basically screamed into my ears.
He wore a huge smile that nearly covered his entire face, but his sun glasses fought for another half of his face.
"When in Rome dress like the Romans!" Cam exclaimed as he packed my suitcase, the day before we left for the weekend get away, his words, not mine.
"Act like the Romans." I correct with a frown. I had already packed the clothes I knew I was going to wear, so why was he throwing everything out.
"Do you even own any casuals? Something you won't wear to an official dinner?" He scrutinized my wardrobe.
"I have casual clothes you know. Just not your type." I say defensive of my wardrobe.
He gave me a deadpan look,
"You plan on wearing these to the beach?" He pointed at my clothes. Quite honestly they were all formal clothes. I didn't have need for any other form of fashion.
"What's wrong with them?" Too stubborn to admit he was right.
"You know what? Doesn't matter, what better way to see Rome --"
"Miami." I correct.
"Then to shop in Miami!!" He was flailing his arms in the air now.
"First things first, we will be getting you out of those clothes and into the clothes of the Romans!!" Cam announced as we walked into the hotel.
I was too exhausted to correct him this time, so I let him be, because quite frankly I wasn't comfortable in the suit anymore. Miami sun was no joke, I felt caked with sweat inside of the suit.
"Reservation for the Russell's?" Jonathan asked the front desk lady.
She offered him a smile and scanned their system for our reservation.
This was why I wanted to stay at the beach house, but mom was having it redecorated so I was stuck with a hotel.
"Right this way!!" A chipper lady said to us, I didn't know where she came from but I was grateful.
We each took separate rooms, and thankfully mine was the farthest. The size of the room was impressive, and the decorations were up to par with how I liked it.
I was going to hit the showers when Cam banged on my door.
"It's shopping time!!!"
I sigh, but I couldn't put it off because I didn't have anything else to wear. I take off the suit jacket, and untuck the inner shirt, all for a bit of comfort. It wasn't comfortable but I wasn't dying from a heat stroke either.
I opened the door to the face of smiling Cam, I pluck his sun glasses from his face and wear it instead. I found it annoying to look at but it helped with the sun.
"I always knew you liked them."
He produced another one from his pocket, I scoff, the guy was so unpredictable.
"I hope we won't be walking to this place."
He laughed,
"I already got a rental car."
And he drove like he was mad. I forgot what overly excited Cam drove like. A maniac.
"That was fun!!!" He said beaming, I loosened my death grip on the seat belt and climbed out of the car. Warning him hadn't worked, look at us, more than ten years later he still drove like he was after my life.
"Today is my treat." He clapped my shoulder.
I shrug him off and walk into the mall. It was just as crowded as any mall would be. Most of them in their beach attire or as Cam called it, what the Romans wore.
"This way!" He announced while pulling my arm in the direction he ran. I felt embarrassment creep up my spine. I wasn't two, why would I be running in the mall when I was a full grown man who was supposed to know better?
We came to halt in front of this shop that had a bunch of mannequins displaying clothes similar to what Cam was wearing.
"This is it! This is where you will dress like the Romans!"
"Cam, you can't just run around in a mall like that when you're not ten, that's not okay."
He blinked like he was confused. Then he gestured with his eyes for me to look around. I feared what I would see, so I take a slow spin around. What I saw shocked me to the bones. Nobody was looking at us, infact we weren't the only ones who ran. Others were running too, and nobody batted an eye lid.
Cam laughed at my expression which I guessed was pure disbelief.
"This only tells you one thing best friend, you haven't had any fun in too long. Which is disappointing since I'm the C.E.O of fun, and I'm your best friend. Forgive me, I'll do better."
I sighed at his dramatic bow and walked inside the shop. By the time we came back out, the number of shopping bags dangling from our wrists would last one for an entire year.
"So, when will you talk about it?" Cam asked as he drove us back to the hotel.
I knew what he was talking about, but I preferred not to think about it.
"Don't even try to play dumb with me Kennedy Russell." He warned. He didn't even take his eyes off the road, yet he knew what I was thinking.
"I was with her.. Lisa I mean."
He scoffed playfully, "Pardon me for thinking there was some other girl."
I shot him a glare, but it was playful.
"I was lost you know, yesterday. But I met her, she found me." I sounded poetic now.
"Seems like your relationship is all about finding, are you guys Nemo?"
I give him a flat look. Suddenly he braked. It was so hard that I flew forward.
"What the hell man?!" I hissed at him.
He stared unblinkingly in front of him.
"I guess you guys are Nemo." He whispered with wide eyes.
"What the hell are you talking about?"
"Look!!" His eyes were still wide looking at something in front of him.
I followed his eyes and find what he was looking at, my eyes widened.
"Lisa?"
