XLVII
Adam took me straight to the hair dressers, and boy was I excited, I hadn't been to a saloon in ages, and now I that I was here, I didn't have to pay at all for it. I sat comfortably as the hair dresser gave me my all time favorite, beach waves. My hair was almost growing past the length I liked for it to have, right on top of my shoulders, so Adam was really doing me a huge favor by taking me here, because honestly it would have taken another two million light years before I came back out for a trim.
Speaking of Adam, he sat on a stool beside me, causing the hair dressers to fawn over our "cuteness" completely misunderstanding the situation.I tried explaining that we weren't a couple but Adam fueled their accusations so I just gave up.
"Wouldn't you want your nails done?" One if the workers asked.
I moved to object, but Adam beat me to it.
"Of course she does, but it has to be minimal, short and still very pretty, she has to go to work you see." He gave them a boyish smile as he finished talking. Everyone there "awwn'ed" and gushed about how sweet he was.
The nail tech started with my feet, and I just stared at Adam. His face was dusted with light freckles. His eyes were a shiny blue, he wasn't pale, who would be in a place as hot as New York. He wasn't too lean, or muscly, his lips were plump, he was actually cute, easy on the eyes. But there was no single thread of attraction. Not even sexually, not emotionally. I felt like he was my big brother. Shit, did I just brother zone Adam? My eyes widen. He's sweet, kind, caring, everything a girl should want from a guy, so why did I brother zone him?
Because he's not Friday night guy. My mind taunted.
I blinked continuously, where the heck did that come from?
"Are you alright?" Adam asked.
My eyes settled on his face, it was crumbled into confused looking pieces. My heart constricted at that, he was in front of me and I was thinking of someone that would never be.
"I'm fine." I managed to say. With a fake smile, his eyes roamed my face, but somehow I was convincing enough and he smiled brightly, the normal Adam smile.
"There, all done." The nail tech said patting my hands.
During my internal monologue she had finished my toes and my hands, she was fast. My eyes watched the white gel polish as it sparkled, it was pretty.
I smiled genuinely at them,
"Thank you. I like them."
They looked pleased with themselves. While Adam settled the bill, I watched myself in the mirror. I looked smoking hot if I do say so myself. The hair accentuated my facial features, my eyes popped, and I looked like I came straight out of a magazine.
"Woah." Adam whispered.
He was looking into the mirror too, staring at me with wide eyes.
"I knew you were hot before, but this.. wow."
He blushed after saying it. I turn to face him.
"Thank you."
He nodded but continued to stare. The workers in the saloon start to gush once more.
"Have a nice date!! Rip her open tonight!!"
That comment made both of us turn beet red as we rush outside together.
Once in the car, he cursed lowly when he saw the time.
"We can't go home and be back on time." He told me.
"Oh, then how do I change?"
He thought about it for a second before smiling.
"You don't mind going to a hotel with me right?"
My eyes bulged.
"No no no, not like that." He quickly corrected himself.
"I mean, you could change into the clothes there."
"What about you? You don't have your clothes here."
"Actually, I do. I got the suit before coming to get you. The only thing I got later was the tie, I got it from Lyla." He said smiling as he drove.
I nodded,
"It's fine by me then."
"So if you're this rich, why do you live in that dingy apartment? It's obvious you can afford more." I ask tentatively.
"That's dingy apartment is what I can afford myself at the moment. The rest are my parents riches."
"Yeah, and you could use their riches to get a better place."
"Then I wouldn't be my own man would I?" He said chuckling.
"You are your own man with their money for car and other stuff." I realized too late that it might not be my business.
"You asked if I caught someone cheating. I did, and this is payback." His face was neutral. I feared I had hit a nerve so I shut up.
Soon we entered an underground parking lot.
"I didn't want us going through the front door, we aren't exactly dressed for the party. The cocktail party is being held here." He explained.
I give him a nod. I didn't want to show up in my work clothes either.
When we walked up to the hotel, he paid for the penthouse, making me pause and wonder how rich his parents actually are.
We didn't speak as we rode the elevator. I didn't know what to say.
The penthouse was huge, my eyes soaked in a lot of rich things today, but this was by far the richest.
"I'll change in there, you can change here." He said pointing to another room. He stalked off before I could say anything.
Dressing up hastily, beating my own record. I was fully dressed in ten minutes. Luckily I was with my lip stick, and that was the only make up I applied.
By the time we stood together in front of the mirror, I could say we looked like we belonged on the front page of a glossy magazine.
"You look even hotter." He commented. He was back to his normal self that I could be free around.
I smile and give him a once over,
"You don't look bad either."
And I wasn't lying.
I still didn't feel any sort of pull towards him.
