"Mom, seriously.. for the tenth time.. no." I say flexing my jaw muscles. I had fallen asleep in her bed in the most awkward angle in history. And this affected my jaw muscles.
She sat at the edge of the bed, her old fingers smoothened the creases out of the bed sheets. Her small sea green eyes looked down at the bed sheets. She purposely shrunk herself to look pitiful.
I groaned, of course she would pull the pity card. It always made me feel guilty.
As soon as she heard me groan, her eyes lit up in excitement. Her manicured fingers clapped along with the excitement she was feeling. She knew I was going to succumb, it was only a matter of persuasion.
"Why can't dad take you?" I asked as I pulled myself out of her bed.
"Your dad does not want to be associated with my company, can't wait till it's a big company, I am going to rub it in his face." She said pouting.
Mom has different companies, all very different from each other. The new one she started growing is this make up company. She called it, 'Foreva young.' Dad made himself too clear he was not going to be associated with the company. And now she needed a date for a cocktail party, for the connections and investments. Dad was not going to follow her, and she was still avoiding Jonathan, Cam was busy, and I was her only option.
"Can't you go alone?" I tried my last card, It was obvious to everyone who looked at the situation that I had lost.
She rolled her eyes as if I was being silly,
"Imagine going to this kinds of stuff alone, who am I, a loner from third grade?"
I snickered at her comparison.
"I already had my bath, freshen up and come out for dinner." She said patting my cheek.
"Wait it's today?!" I exclaimed incredulously.
"Oh, didn't I tell you?" She replied as she speed walked out of the door.
Curses flew from my lips as she left, I didn't like going for public appearances. Even all the parties they held here at home, I was at Cam's place till everyone left.
I stood in the bathroom, as the hot water hit my body. I was instantly transported back to the night, the night she started to haunt me. Her legs had wrapped around me like the way the water wrapped around my body. Before my imagination could run further, I stopped the water and stepped out.
By the time I was downstairs, dinner was being served. Mom and Jonathan were sitted on very opposite ends, neither of them glancing at each other. I'm sure Dad purposely sat dinner out, because Jonathan was at the table.
The tension was too much, I could not eat much, making us to leave for the Cocktail party early.
Mom wore a blue cocktail gown, that clung to her body, but in a way that she was still able to breathe, with the back cut out, it was a floor length gown. With diamonds across the neckline of the dress, it was absolutely stunning.
I had to match her with a deep blue cocktail shirt, and the same shade of blue trousers. But when I looked in the mirror, the person that looked back at my was nothing short of perfection. Mom smiled in approval as she saw me.
When we got there, guests were already trooping in. I had already started to sweat at the number of guests.
"Don't panic, mommy's here." Mom reassured me, her hand was holding on to my forearm, she didn't look at me when she said those words. Her eyes were in the crowd.
I smiled at her even though she could not see me,
"How are you even going to introduce me to people?" I inquired as soon the question hit me.
"I'm guessing you still don't want to be known as my son?" Her voice took a sentimental tone.
As I opened my mouth to answer, she beat me to it.
"I'll say you're a business partner, Cam's business partner." She said waving to someone in the other side of the room.
Soon, the room was packed. Mom and I were still glued together, the only time we separated was to get a glass of drink. The silence was comfortable but I felt I was holding her back. She didn't want to leave my side, but she needed to move around.
"Why don't you go talk to some people?" I proposed.
She looked at me, her brows knitted together, I smiled to reassure her.
"Are you sure honey?"
I nod firmly, while keeping my smile in place.
"Ok, I won't take long. Call me immediately you want to leave."
I roll my eyes playfully.
"I'm almost thirty."
"Doesn't make you any less my baby." She pointed out before leaving.
I gulped down the remaining of my drink in a swift motion. Still feeling thirsty, I walked to the table. My eyes caught a girl standing over at the end of the table. She wore too much dark make up, and it suited her, the eyeliner accentuated her sharp dark eyes. Her hair was cropped to the top of her head but it in a very attractive way. My eyes slid down to her body, she wore a very low cut red gown. And I could see everything. And I liked what I saw.
By the time my eyes roamed back up to her face, she was smirking at me. She mouthed the word 'bathroom' to me then she walked away, the table was hiding the lower half of her body from me, the gown was even shorter than I expected. And of course, I did follow her.
Someone dragged me into the darkness as soon as I walked out of the cocktail room. Somehow her lips found mine as my eyes struggled to adjust to the darkness.
The kiss was the roughest I had ever received. She was not the type to enjoy slow and steady. And I wasn't the type that liked being dominated, I kissed her back, harder. She smiled against my lips.
We broke it after about four minutes.
"The hotel rooms are upstairs." Her voice was hoarse as she whispered.
Without thinking, I ask.
"What are we waiting for?"
