"I will see you later." He tries to put a smile, but I could see it. Fear, it was obvious as the beauty on his face.
I nod and enter inside the building, deep in thought. What could have caused him to change so abruptly. I mentioned the serial killer just after we finished eating. Could it be that the serial killer made him scared? He was in the hotel where the serial killer popped up, maybe he hadn't gotten over it yet, and I brought it up. Fuck.
"Wow, so you came back." I hear Zach's mocking voice.
I raise my head to find him staring straight at me. I look at him in confusion.
"Of course I came back. What is wrong with you?"
"Seeing as you gave people what to talk about twice today, I thought you were tired of your celebrity lifestyle and was quitting."
"Zach you have to stop speaking in parables and come out clean." I rub my forehead in tiredness.
"You can't say you don't know, David is bawling his eyes out in the men's room." He narrowed his eyes at me.
"What are you talking about?" I actually couldn't care more than I did for David.
"The public display of affection you did right outside the office with a guy I have never seen before." His eyes were narrowed towards me, like I hid the biggest secret of my life from him.
"You saw that?"
He scoffs, "if anyone didn't see, they are either blind or very blind."
My eyes widen as I look around me, everyone was staring at me. I almost blend into the work desk.
"You two looked very much in love, when did it start? Why don't I know anything about it."
"What love?"
"You guys were practically shooting yourselves hearts, anyone that didn't see it is blind." He maintained.
I sigh. It was a minute of my gratefulness. And now everyone thought we were in love.
"He looks rich, did you spike his drink? Are you threatening him with his secret?"
I shoot up from my seat.
"What do you mean?" I was feeling slightly offended.
"Can't he fall in love with me if I don't threaten him?"
He shrugs lazily.
"I had to explore all the possibilities before hearing the bitter truth."
I don't answer him.
"Anyway, the news is buzzing everywhere. You broke a heart, and now you are local celebrity."
"Where is David?"
"Men's room. Unless you have balls you can't go in."
I sigh, as he was about leaving, I remember what he said earlier.
"Zach? The counselor you talked about one time, the one about the serial killer?"
He nods so I continue.
"Is it available for others who don't work here?"
"I doubt that, why?"
I shake my head.
"Nothing really. A friend of mine was there, they are having troubles.. because of it."
"Is this friend hot, sexy and rich? If they are, I'm certain they can afford counseling."
He gave me a knowing look. I hate that Zach can see into my soul and know what I'm feeling.
"So that's where you met? In Miami? When the serial killer was plunging the knife in his victim's heart he was plunging something else into you?" He wiggled his brows suggestively that I laugh.
"No, we didn't meet there, Can you help check on David though? I'm not sure I'm the face he wants to see in the next three hundred years."
He rolls his eyes.
"The things I do for you Lisa, know you will be paying be back soon." He says as he walks away.
It was true. He did a lot for me. Asides the every morning coffee. He might as well give me his limbs.
"Time to get back to work." I tell myself.
As I scroll through the files, I realized that in the next month, I may not be sitting in this chair. I may be upstairs in the creative department.
A feeling of accomplishment rise in my chest, I was finally taking control of my life. I just have to prepare what I was going to present to the board members on the day of the test.
I practice a simulation character until 5:30, I won't have known time was so far spent if I don't hear Zach's cough. Fake cough.
"Wow, you have been busy."
He said peering into the computer. I beam at the work. It was just a female character brandishing her sword and waving it in the air, it was in a loop so she was doing it over and again.
"She is stunning."
I know, I made her. I want to say but I bask in his compliment. I transfer it to my flash drive so Kennedy could see my work.
"Leaving?" Zach questioned as I shut down my system.
"Yeah. It is closing time."
"I see you have a date." He says looking outside at the familiar car rolling to a stop in front of the building.
A huge smile plaster on my face.
"Yeah. Not a date. We are working on something."
Zach snorts,
"Tell that to the smile on your face."
I don't answer because I'm blushing. I run away from him and towards the car.
"Hey." I greet cheerily.
He had changed into a comfortable T shirt and grey sweatpants. He still looked absolutely ravishing.
"Hey." His smile was a million times bigger than mine.
He reached across the car to kiss me. I want to melt into his arms, I deepen the kiss.
"You get me all worked up Kennedy Russell." I whisper.
He chuckled lightly and starts to drive away.
"How was your day at work?"
I smile at his features ad he drove.
"It was awesome, this really handsome guy kissed me in front of my office building and everyone saw."
He winced.
"They saw that?"
I nod.
"They didn't mock you too much right?"
"What will they mock me for?" I ask because I'm genuinely curious.
"I don't know. People are never satisfied."
"True, but contrary to that, they were jealous."
He laughs.
"It's true."
"Sure, sure."
"Where are we going?" I ask as he turned into a street that wasn't leading to his house.
"I figured you would need a few clothes, if we were going out, you can't wear mine out obviously."
I don't answer so he brakes.
"You didn't want to stay?"
"I do.. I just.. it's.. nobody has ever done this for me before. It's new to me." I say honestly.
He looks at me intently. Then hugs me.
"You'll get more than this from henceforth."
I think tears came to my eyes.
