"You did what?" I shrieked once I entered the car.
Cam winced. "Would you keep it down? They'd easily know you are not in here alone if you keep screeching like that."
"How can I not screech like this? You did something crazy."
"Something impressive." He says as he reverses out of the driveway.
"How could you think of sneaking into their van? What if someone was in it? What if they killed you? What would I do if you end up on the news?" I shivered at the thought.
He shrugged, "I wanted to see what you would be sending her into. In case there was a gun or something."
Okay that was a smart move. But i can't concede to that after I had just given him an earful, I would never hear the end of it.
" Did you find anything?"
"Only knives. He must have just told them to watch and not engage if they only had knives on them."
I eye him.
"Yeah because knives bounce off my skin."
"They purchased those themselves, so they can protect themselves, maybe from him or something."
Interesting thought process.
"No letters lying around?"
He snorts, "Yes, because it's the Shakespearean era and they are lovers not a killer and his minions."
I ignore the sarcasm.
"He hates-- well hated technology. He preferred writing. For some reason."
Cam spared me a side way glance. "Well, he must have adapted, or they were instructed to eat the papers or something because there was no letter in sight."
I shut my eyes and tried not to think about all the time my birth father spent alone, planning and plotting his revenge against his own child.
"And you? Would it not be suspicious that you left your date without taking her home?"
My eyes peeled open and a smirk turned my lips upwards. Theresa had a flare for the dramatic. After we had ordered and ate, she came up with a way to leave without being seen. She loudly, in a fake high pitched voice, accused me of being homophobic and having a myopic view, then she pushed away the plates from the table and ran away through the emergency exit. I was floored by her acting, and for the second time, I was escorted out of an establishment.
Cam chortled as I tell him the story.
"This Theresa would be a fun addition to our group after all of this is over."
I shake my head in amusement.
"Did she agree to do it?"
"Yeah, she likes the thrill of danger, but she has no idea what we're up against."
I wince from the guilt.
"What is she going to find that I didn't?"
"Anything. Men would say anything when faced with a possibility of mind numbing sex. She will get information, and their phones plus their wallets and wrist watches so it looks like petty theft."
He nods understanding what I mean.
"There was one van stationed just across Bavard."
My eyes fly open. My entire being screamed for Lisa, I needed to know she was safe.
"She is fine. Zach is with her. I asked him to not leave her side and also keep an eye on the van."
I deflate and say into my seat.
"You told him?"
Cam blushed, he could not keep a secret from someone he loved. I would know.
"I needed-- we need an eye and ears there as well. There was a sighting of one circling around the area you jog frequently and all of your favourite restaurants as well."
"Christ. Just how long have they been following me? How much do they know?"
"Not much I guess, your mom says there has been no van around her house or office. Your dad's office too."
I rub my palms across my face. I haven't been so exhausted in a long while. During the make of Monsta father I barely slept, i put all of my energy into making the game, there was no time for anything else, and now the exhaustion was catching up to me.
"I found one of their ID's, I took a picture and sent it to your mom. She will send it to her police contact and see if anything comes up in their database."
"That is good investigating." I tell him.
I can hear him tell me that Jonathan says it's okay to come back but I'm barely awake at this time. I feel myself fall asleep.
"Hey.. it's time to wake up."
When I open my eyes, the car is parked in the underground garage. Free from the eyes of the van guys.
"I can't believe I fell asleep." I say.
"I can't believe you did not fall asleep earlier. You've been running on fumes. You need rest."
"What I need is to catch Sebastian so I can stop living my life looking over my shoulders. It is exhausting." I tell him as we use the connecting mudroom to enter the house.
Jonathan had gone home to his wife, taking advantageof the absence of the van guys. The curtains were drawn shut and the surveillance footage was displaged on different screens.
Two heavily built, even with more muscles than me, sat on the sofa, mom hired them herself, said they were former secret service agents. They must cost a lot.
"Wow, and i thought You were the bulkiest guy in the world." Cam says in what should have been a whisper.
"Gentlemen. I'm Kennedy, and this is Cam. I'm certain my mom told you what you need to know, I don't know how this works but I'm entrusting my safety in your hands." I bring my hand out for a handshake.
The bald one sizes me up.
"You the owner of the game company?"
I nod, they were going to save my life, they could know this one detail.
"My daughter is a big fan. She hates me currently. If you could give me your autograph so I can make amends.." he says with a soft smile.
I smile back.
"Sure of course."
The other guy just nods and sits in front of the screens. Cam and i waddle to the kitchen, totally awkward with the big guys around. Cam starts to busy himself in the kitchen, an attempt to amend his mistake.
My phone shrilled and when I see the caller ID I almost roll my eyes. I told her not to call. Danielle rarely listens.
"They shot! Oh my god they were shooting!!"
