"You seem to know her more than you are willing to let on.. that's why I asked." She was twirling a forkful of pasta while she spoke. I had not responded for a minute when she asked.
She laughed uneasily.
"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to. You don't have to look so constipated."
I tried relaxing my facial features.
"It's true though, we are mere acquaintances. I don't know her more than you do. Maybe a little more, but not much more." I say after thinking. Sure we had slept together once, she helped me out in the office, I didn't know her at all. Just the information she filled in for the job was what I knew about her. I had not bothered to know more than I did at the moment.
She smiled easily now.
"It's okay, I just thought if you knew her, you would help me pull a few favors."
I scrunched up my brows.
"Favors? What favors?"
"You see. I work as the receptionist at Bavard Enterprise. But that's not where I want to be forever. I originally applied in another department but I didn't get the job."
I mulled over it.
"What department?"
She chewed everything in her mouth, swallowed before answering me. She was just stalling.
"The strategy department, creative department."
I stared at her wide eyed. I get why she stalled. No department like that would hire you without a certificate. Only the best of the best worked in that department.
"You applied to that department?"
I ask, trying to keep the disbelief from my voice. But I guess I failed at that because she blushed.
"Yes."
"Wow, you must be the most courageous woman known to man." I whisper, but she heard me anyway seeing as she laughed a little.
"Yes, that's what I get from everyone. And now even you who do not work in a gaming company know it."
I chuckle.
"Why do you want to work there?"
Her eyes brighten. Which tells me she is excited.
"I absolutely love creating game characters. It's so elaving to create something out of nothing, a new being. Something people would either love with the whole of their heart, or hate with every single part of their being. It's thrilling."
I stared at her with mouth almost touching the restaurant floor. I felt us stitch closer, because that was exactly how I felt about making game characters. Creating a new world that wasn't so shitty. Wasn't so messed up as the reality. It was shitty but just not as reality, reality was brutal.
"What?" She chuckled nervously under my stare.
"That was wonderful."
She blushed.
"Thank you."
"If you are so passionate about creating game characters. Why didn't you go to college? So your path would have been a tad bit easier."
"I didn't have this passion until after deciding I wasn't going to go to college. I didn't know what to do with my life then. Until I did. Much more later."
I nod. I knew a thing or two about indecisiveness.
"You could have used your time as a receptionist to go to school. You could have impacted a lot more. And increased your chances with the creative department."
Her expression grew sad.
"It's a long story, for another day. If you've finished with your food we can head back and start preparing for the bon fire."
I nod and signal the waiter, for the bill. He comes over and I see him check out Lisa. Who wouldn't? Even dressed in something as casual as what she was wearing, she still looked hot.
I cleared my throat, trying to get the waiter's attention. He'd checked her out enough. I dropped the exact amount for our food, not dropping a tip.
"Let's go Mimosa." I say reaching for her hand and leading her out.
"Mimosa?" She asked in bewilderment as we walked out of the restaurant.
I blush a bit and turn away from her so she doesn't see it.
"It's a plant that closes when you touch it. Just like how you shy away from me. The name kind of suits you." I explain.
She laughs a little ad we walked in the direction we came from.
"Mimosa." She repeated.
"It's cute."
And I agree, it was cute like her and described her very well. I couldn't have picked a better name.
"Well what do I call you then? If I'm shy and close up, and Mimosa.. what are you?"
The way she pronounced the Mimosa was cute.
"I don't know, why don't you pick one out for me?"
She smiled. And gave me a fake salute.
"Yes sir!"
We both laughed. Talking and walking with her seemed so easy, and couldn't be forced in any way possible. Her warm hand fit into my huge one, like it molded into my own hand.
"What's your favorite color?" She blurted.
I think about the randomness of the question.
"Getting to know each other right? Friends?"
She explained, I guess she knew I thought it was random.
"Black."
"Obvious. Why black?"
"Black is good for blending into your surroundings."
She nodded.
"True. But I can't pick a color. How could I pick when there were so many beautiful colors to choose from?"
"Sentimental. Must be a fulfilling life."
She snorts a bit.
"Well this is my stop. See you in a few minutes."
I stand in front of her awkwardly. For some reason I didn't want her to leave, even if I was going to see her in a few minutes.
"See you in a few minutes." I tell her too.
She was smiling broadly. She seemed like she didn't want to go in as well.
"Go in."
"You go first, I'll watch you leave."
"Go in first, I want to be sure you are safely inside before I leave."
"Okay then." She's still smiling as she walks inside her room.
I turn around to find Cam smiling at me like he was crazy.
"My friend's in love!!"
