CXXIII
I crane my neck to see what was going on at the backseat. Sure enough, Zach is sitted there, arms folded lazily across his chest whilst his eyes remain on Cam who looked like he wanted nothing more than to disappear into the framework of the expensive car door.
A sigh escapes my lips as I watch, my confusion matched Ken's. I could see him twitching in impatience as he waited for Zach to start explaining himself. Rightfully So, when he said those words out loud earlier, my initial response was to quickly deny everything, so I started laughing, more like a dry very guilty laugh that told him he was spot on. And he made a good point that we could not argue with, whether he was right or wrong we could not argue that in front of the building.
"Any day now Zach." I give in to the impatience.
He chuckled, slowly peeling his eyes off Cam.
"What do you want me to say?"
I look at Kenny for help, because I did not know how to question Zach's knowledge without telling him he was right.
"Why did you come to the conclusion that I am the owner of Bavard?" Kenny's firm voice asks in the most polite manner.
Zach shrugged, "I saw you at the meeting with the Japanese client. I had to use the restroom and i happen to get a glimpse, I didn't see you completely, but enough to know you anywhere else. And you could have argued this in public but that would mean risking the public knowing who you are. That confirmed my suspicion."
I groan, that was such a Zach thing to do. I should have known that he said that based off his suspicions.
"I hope now that you know, you will keep this a secret."
I see Kenny's knuckle turn white from gripping the steering wheel too tight, he did not want this information out in the public. I turn to Zach to beg him to keep the secret but he is looking at Cam again.
"As long as your best friend agrees to go on a date with me."
The car pulls to a harsh stop. Seat belt tightens around my body, I wince.
"Sorry baby." Kenny whispers as his fingers find the clasp. I only have time to nod to show him i am fine before he turns around to face Zach.
"You will not hold my secret over his head. He will only go out with you if he feels comfortable."
Zach rubbed on his neck.
"That is not what I'm doing."
"That is so what you meant." I quip.
"I will do it." Cam says quietly.
"What?" Kenny turns his eyes to his best friend. Cam smiles but it isn't his usual playful smile.
"If it is to protect you, I will do it. I can do anything. What is a date?"
Zach's face falls.
"That isn't what I meant.."
"You don't have to do that for me." Kenny interrupts him.
Cam smiles.
"I know. But i want to. It is the only thing I can do for you."
Kenny moves to argue when Cam shakes his head as if to disagree with what he was about to say.
"You guys aren't even listening." Zach murmurs low enough for me to hear.
"Do you like him?" I ask.
He nods eagerly.
"Who wouldn't? He is cute."
"Will you keep the secret even if he does not like you back?"
He cocks his head to the side.
"You have known me a while. Do you think I thrive off people's suffering?"
"Asides mine?"
He chuckled.
"It is his secret. I don't care who my boss is, as long as I get paid on time. I won't tell another soul."
A smile blossoms on my face. And it stays even after we drop both of them off at a bar not far from Cam's place.
"That went well."
Kenny looks away from the road for a millisecond to look at me. He smiles but I can see the worry in his eyes.
"He will be fine. Zach won't do anything to him."
"You think so?" His voice held no accusation, only concern.
"I know so. Zach is a bit weird. But he is kind. He brought me doughnuts and coffee every morning for years without getting anything in return. He won't hurt Cam."
He raised a questioning brow.
"He brought you doughnuts and coffee every morning?"
I roll my eyes playfully. That was the only thing he got out of my speech?
"Yes, and he isn't interested, he made that abundantly clear. I mean he is gay." I still can't believe he lied every time about his sexuality and turned me down.
"I want to be the only guy giving you anything in the mornings and every time of the day." He pouts at me.
The movement of his mouth drags my eyes to his luscious lips, stirring something inside me. My eyes run down his mouth to his neck, and down the line of his chest, he had unbuttoned the first two buttons of his shirt, granting me a view of his perfectly sculptured chest. My lip tuck into my mouth as I imagine running my hand against his solid chest.
Him, oblivious to what is going on in my head, turns to me, the smile he reserves for just me, plastered on his face.
"I figured we should have dinner here. I am very hungry and i didn't work all day, I can't imagine your hunger."
I smile at him in thanks because I am truly famished. And it isn't just food I am craving, my body craved his.
He pulled into a well lit restaurant. Soft music spilled from indoors.
"It is a Chinese place. One of my favourites." He tells me as we step out of the car together. His hand reaches out and plucks mine. I felt my skin pulsate the second our skin makes contact.
Heat pulls in between my legs. I take a deep breath to steady myself. His hand in mine keeps making everything worse.
My feet wobble as I try to walk and his arm snake behind my waist.
"Woah. Are you okay?"
With his face inches from mine, my heart starts to thump furiously, and my skin starts to tingle. Pleasure swirled around my core.
I reach up and lock our lips together.
