A heavy sigh left my lips, the weekend was over and I had my morning shift at Bavard, it was a nice job, only that I drank the night before, and my job entailed standing in tall heels, looking prim and proper while smiling like I was the chirpest person in the world. It was quite an easy job when I was starting out, full of optimism, and hope that somehow I'd move on to a better department, unfortunately days turned to weeks, and weeks to months, finally months to two years, I'm still stuck smiling at the workers and clients alike as they enter or exit the building.
"There is no day you don't look dashing."
From the first word he spoke I knew it was David, he was the cringiest man that worked in the building.
"Give it a rest David, I honestly don't have time or patience for any of your cringe pick up lines today." I tell him as I manage to put my hair in a bun.
"Oooh messy bun, I like it." His persistence was more annoying than his face, since I got this job he has been asking me out, I said no every time but either he was extremely shameless and had no ego or he found it fun to annoy me.
"Is he bothering you again?" Regina said as she sashayed towards us.
I nod and take a sip of my coffee.
She pulled him by the ear and walk away.
"Ouch. Ouch. I can walk myself, I'll walk myself."
"Lucky for you, you're good at your job, or else you'd have gotten fired already." Regina told him as she dragged him out.
David was in the legal team, I didn't understand what they did there but it seemed important and he was good so no matter how he slacked off and bugged me every day, his team manager; Regina could only drag him by the ears.
"Did you hear there was an intruder in the building?" Zach asked as he stood beside me.
I turned around to face him, he smiled at me, I had to smile back.
"You look terrible." He commented, one of the things I loved about him was his inability to sugarcoat, granted sometimes it was a little too harsh, but he couldn't have come any other way.
"What did you mean intruder?"
"Didn't you get some sleep last night?" He squinted at my face.
I was forced to look away from his sapphire blue eyes. I hated when someone stared at me with that much intensity.
"I drank all night." I tell him as I pick at the styrofoam cup that held my coffee.
"And you thought the next best thing was to drink coffee?" He plucked the cup out of my hand.
"I love coffee." I pouted.
He rolled his eyes and walked away with my cup of coffee in his hands. I could only gap at his retreating back.
My work was lonely when it wasn't rush hour or lunch break, especially on Monday mornings, everyone had loads of work to do. I checked the mail lazily, there was nothing I had not forwarded to the team managers. So I proceeded to organize the files and folders from the beginning.
I had just gotten off one of the office phone calls, before Zach comes back and drops off a bag on my desk, my surprise face meets his stoic one.
"Take it." He pointed with his head before walking away briskly.
My curious fingers open the bag, it was a bottle of water, a piece of croissant, and pain killers. I smiled warmly.
My phone lit up with a notification from him.
"You probably didn't have breakfast, eat up. And take those meds."
A smile sprouted on my lips, he'd go ahead and do things like this and make me like him and then he never asked me out, and I never dared asking him out, It would make everything awkward if he rejected me. Although my friends think he does like me, but until he says anything I will not assume and get my feelings hurt. Never.
"Thank you so much." I shot back, I added a blue heart emoji, everyone knows that was made for friendship. Platonic ones.
A blonde haired guy stopped in front of my desk, meaning he was a guest. Immediately my polite smile took it's place as I stood straight like I had done so many times in the past.
"Good morning, welcome to Bavard Gaming Enterprise. What can I do for you this morning?" I asked him confidently.
He smiled a smile that told everyone that he was at ease, his trimmed moustache rested on the thin lips that stretched into a gentle smile.
The most attractive thing about him was his eyes, they were a deep set, the irises as dark as night, but holy cow they were attractive.
One of the perks of this job was the fact that I got to meet several attractive men a day, without even putting myself out there.
"I'd like to meet with the audio engineering team?"
Even his thick Canadian accent was to die for.
"Sure, this way sir." My tongue had glued to the roof of my mouth, it took a lot of strength to get it to work.
I started to enter the elevator, usually I told them what floor to go and they'll be on their way, but not my smoldering hot Canadian client, he looked too good to be true, I could not help myself when I started to follow him.
"So, what are you here for?" I asked as I pushed the number seven on the button pad. Hoping that the seventh floor came slower.
He gave me a slow glance, a small smile still played on his lips.
"Nosy eh?"
I blushed, I only wanted to make small talk. And make sure he didn't escape my grasp like the hotter guy from on Friday.
I shook my head to clear my thoughts.
"It's okay, I was offered a job here.. I came to check it out."
As soon as he finished the elevator stopped and opened, I almost curse. Stepping out of there took will power, I almost wanted to touch his chest, to feel if they were as hard as they looked.
The door to the audio engineering department swung open, I met the receptionist and she told me to leave him out there. I knew she did want to stare at him too, he was literally a walking candy, with a chest that broad, and a face that ruggedly handsome? She definitely did want a piece.
Grudgingly I walked to him.
"They'll call you in shortly, please do enjoy your stay here. And I hope you like it here." My polite smile had snapped back in place.
"Why? You'd like me to work here?"
Words failed me as I opened my mouth to answer and came up short.
He laughed softly.
"Here.. call me." He passed me a card, then walked past me, but just as he was leaving, he leaned in close to my ear and whispered.
"Let's do something about the drool on your chin."
