CXLI
I let out a big whoop as soon the elevator reaches the ground floor, that shocks both of my security, Cam and Detective Dale, his packet of cigarettes even slip out if his hand from the shock.
"What the fuck?"
"You are that happy?" Cam asks with a grin that matched my own.
A big booming laugh jumps out of me, scaring my companions.
"I am thrilled. It is one thing to know that he will never hurt me or anyone ever again, it is another to know that he will never hurt me even in my nightmares. I can't believe I used to be terrified of sleeping in fear that he would appear in my dreams."
"Jesus, just what did he do to you? And what was the story with the bear traps?" Dale asks, his cigarettes long forgotten.
I laugh once more, it was freeing to talk about this thing, it really felt like a thing of the past now. Something that happened to me but can't hurt me ever again.
"Heard of Monsta father?"
Dale's brows furrowed in the middle of his forehead.
"The game? The new one? Of course I heard of it, my children used my cards to play the games and i can't wait to block the cards." He murmured.
Other times I heard parents complaining that children used their money on my games, I'd wince and find a way to remove myself from there, but today I just laughed.
" Well, that story is the story of him and me."
Dale frowned. Then he makes the connection in his mind.
"You're the owner of Bavard?"
For the first time I have no inhibitions telling a stranger that I built the company from scratch. I felt a beam of pride when his eyes widen. It feels so good I want to stand on a hill and scream that I was the owner of Bavard.
"You got the confession you needed right?"
Dale nodded, still slightly dazed. "Yes, we have a case. We recorded the conversation. We will edit the private parts out."
I shrug good naturedly. This was his job, I could not tell him how to do it.
"Thank you Dale. You will not be forgotten. Bring your kids to Bavard sometime, I will see to it that they get a tour." I tell him before climbing into the front passenger's seat.
"Where to?" Cam asked me with a big smile on his face. But i can still see the weariness. He was tired.
"I will drive, I had a well rested night. I'll drop you off at your house, no argument, the bad guy is in hospital jail, you saw him, he will not be moving to anywhere any time soon."
Cam chuckled and switched seats with me. By the time we get to his house, I could see him moving in slow motion. He needs the rest. He doesn't even argue and goes straight in.
"It seems we were not even needed." The bald headed guy murmurs from the back.
I chuckle, "my mother likes to jump twenty feet ahead of her. Sorry for the waste of the time."
The other guy waves me off, "we got paid. Not what you would call a waste of time."
"If you can send our things across, we would be very grateful."
We exchanged our good byes and they leave. There is a skip in my steps as I enter my parents house. There was an unmistakable presence of peace in my heart. I was so at peace with everything. I have lived in fear for all of my life, and finally the source of my dear has been sent away for good.
I didn't notice when Lisa jumps into my arms, so I stumble backwards for a few seconds.
"You're okay."
I smile into her hair and hug her tighter. Melting into the warmth of her embrace.
"I'm okay. I did it. I faced my fears, literally. And it turns out it was nothing to be scared of."
She wrapped her arms around me tighter like she was trying to squeeze me.
"I am so proud of you."
"We all are." My mom's voice comes from somewhere in the living room.
She walked towards me, arms outstretched with tears staining her cheeks.
"My baby." My mom cooed once I exchange Lisa for her. My mom's frail arms wrapped around me in a hug. And at once I was seven again, scared of being rejected by these wonderful people, her arms wrapped around me protectively then, as it is now.
My dad, not the vile creature who got what was coming to him, stood by my side, his eyes glistening with unshed tears.
"And you are trending on Twitter and everywhere." Jonathan says from behind me. Naturally, my first response was to grow still, until I remember that I won't have to hide from him ever again.
"For what? I don't even have Twitter."
"You told the detective you were the owner of Bavard?" He shrieked.
I nod, I didn't expect Dale to be a gossip but I guess he was.
"Yeah, I have no one to hide from anymore."
Dad turned on the TV and my picture was on the screen. A very flattering picture of me that Cam had forced me to take when he opened his first restaurant. The picture hung there for years and no one knew who it was. And now it's floating around everywhere.
"At least it's a good picture." I murmur.
"A good picture? That is a great picture. Like you are a model. Get ready Lisa, the females would flock this one."
"They can try but it's Lisa and me forever." I wrap my arms around her and she melts into my arms.
"So the whole world finally knows the owner of Bavard gaming enterprise." She says.
I felt a weight lift off my shoulders. Weights have been liftimg off my shoulders throughout today. Very soon I would be able to float.
"Yeah, it's out there now. Together with my entire life story. I'm almost positive Danielle was an informant."
Lisa chuckled. We stare at the TV together, watching the news anchor reiterate my entire life back to me. A picture of Monsta father was also on the screen, edited so the character of the Monsta father was now a picture if my birth father from his hay days as a scientist, and the son was the picture from Cam's restaurant.
The whole world knows, the whole world is watching, I have no reason to hide anymore.
