Chapter nineteen
Claire POV
A few minutes later, the workers started entering one by one, trolling in racks full of clothes.
The assistant went to the door and changed the open sign to close.
“Let the show begin!”. Amanda excitedly said this as she took off her jacket and stood up. I wonder which show they are talking about.
“Get up. You are going to be our model. You will model all the clothes we give to you, and then I will choose the ones that look good on you.” Amanda beamed at me to get up. I am not so sure about this arrangement.
"Here, take this and wear it!”. Amanda dropped a piece of cloth in my hands and pushed me into the changing room.
“Be out in one minute, or I will enter and get you myself!”. Amanda shouted from outside. I reluctantly changed into the dress and stood to look at myself in the mirror. I actually look good in the clothes.
“Sophia, if you don’t come out at the count of five, I will enter and get you myself. I am not joking!!!”. Shouted Amanda again. I knew that she would carry out her threat, so I took a deep breath and went out. They all stood and were looking at me, and I began to feel self-conscious.
“Don’t just stand there; that’s not how to model. Cat walks around”. Amanda commanded as she herself started car-walking as if she were trying to show me how to do it.
I did as she asked, and all the workers cheered me on. “I am happy that I am the subject of their entertainment this morning,” I sarcastically said in my mind.
“You look good! Go in and try on the next dress.”. Amanda excitedly clapped her hands. I rolled my eyes at her but did ask.
We kept on repeating the process for almost five hours, although we took a lunch break. At first, I was shy, but as the minutes went by, I became more confident and free with them. It turns out Amanda was fun to hang out with. She reminds me so much of Lisa. Talking about Lisa, I missed her and Rose so much. I made a mental note to remember to ask the Alphas for permission so that I could go and visit them.
We are finally done with the shopping. I must say that we nearly brought the entire shop. Our stuff was packaged in eight different shopping bags. That’s right, seven, eight. I'm not quite sure if it’s meant for me alone or if Amanda did her own personal shopping too, because if it's for me, then it's way too much.
“Bye! I hope to see you soon again!”. The assistant manager said that, and all the workers waved at us as they left. I also waved back with a smile on my face. I really enjoyed their company. I now understand what Grace meant when she said, “One of the best medicines for pre-depression is to surround yourself with people who will always make you smile.”. Because right now, I am feeling a certain level of happiness I can’t remember ever feeling in my former pack.
"So, how do you feel right now?”. Amanda as we entered the car. The boutique is going to send our shopping bags through the delivery van since they are too large and cannot be contained in a car.
“Honestly, I feel alive, which I can never remember feeling.” I truthfully told her.
“That’s good to hear. You know, when Xavier told me that they had found their mate and what her current situation was, I was sad for them. Believe it or not. These men are the best people one could get as a mate. They are so caring and loving to their people, so imagine how they will be to their own mate.”. Amanda paused and looked at me as if she were waiting for me to imagine what she was saying.
She then continued, “Let me tell you a story. I came to this pack when I was just fourteen. I have been abused since the age of five. At the time they found me, my parents sold me off to be a sex slave to an evil rogue lord. It was the same rogue lord who killed their parents. The twins came to average the deaths of their parents that day. The whole rogue community was burned to ashes. I was expecting them to kill me and the rest of the slaves too. But they did the opposite. They set us free and gave us an option. Either for us to come with them to their pack or go our own way. We all chose to follow in fear of what might happen to us if we went on our own. At that time, the pack wasn’t great at this, and the Alpha twins were only sixteen years old. But they took all six of us and welcomed us there. They didn’t stop there. They enrol us in the school of our choice and help us achieve our dreams. I will be forever grateful for them.” Amanda shared her life story with me with tears in her eyes. I was also in tears. Here I am wallowing in self-pity, thinking as if I am the only one who has passed through a lot in my life while there are others who have experienced worse. At least my parents didn’t sell me off.
“I don’t know what to say.”. I told her because I was indeed speechless.
“I didn’t tell you my story so that you would make a comment about it. After all, it's all in the past. I hardly think of it. I just want you to stop looking at our friends as if they are a villains. They have waited for you for a long time. They are not going to reject you. So please, I beg you, give them a chance. Give them a chance to show why they are the perfect match for you.” Amanda clasped her hands together as she pleaded with me. But she doesn't have to do that because I have already made up my mind on what to do.
I really admire how the pack members are loyal to their Alphas. They always sound as if they could die for them. Which I am very sure they can.
Before I could give her a reply, someone opened the car door. I didn’t even notice that we had arrived. Amanda and I both got down from the car and walked to the front door. Just as I was about to enter, Amanda lightly pulled my shirt, and I turned to look at her.
“Don’t tell the Alphas what we discussed. It will make them feel as if they are forcing you to make a decision. I hope you understand.”. Amanda explained.
“Yes Mam”. I gave her a salute, and we both laughed as we entered the house.
