Chapter forty five

Sophia’s POV

I woke up feeling very refreshed and content this morning. I feel so light. I am happy that I was able to let go of all that has been experienced from my heart. Now to me, all those things are a past life. It’s time for me now to face my future in this pack with the Alphas.

Today will be the first time I will be going to the pack for school. So I want to dress my best after all. It said that first impressions matter. I volunteered to teach at the pack’s nursery so I needed to dress in a child-friendly way.

I am tempted to call Lisa or Amanda for advice but I change my mind. I have to start making simple decisions like this for my life. I scan all my clothes in my closet looking for the one to wear. The more I scan through the closet, the more I become confused about what to choose. I don’t want to wear something very formal and at the same I don’t want to appear too simple.

I finally decided to wear black plain office trousers and a white and black dot poke chiffon short-sleeved shirt. I pair the outfit with black three inches heels, a black bag and white jewellery. I stood and looked at myself in the full-length mirror. I actually look very good and professional.

“Let’s go slay the day!.” I cheered and left the room. I am too unsettled to eat breakfast so I just had a cup of tea. When I went downstairs, Derrick the driver was already waiting for me.

After about a thirty-minute drive, Derrick stopped and announced that we were there already. I alighted from the car and looked at the surroundings. On a big signboard close to the main entrance is written, “Sky Blue Pack School ''. The building of the school is painted sky blue and white, which is the official colour of the pack.

I waved goodbye to Derrick and headed to the gate.

“Good morning, Mam. Your ID card, please?.” One of the four guards at the gate asked me.

“Pardon?”. I was a little bit confused because nobody told me anything about presenting my ID at all. The school I attended in my former pack does not even have a fence around it to be more guarded. Well, that is because I attended a school made for lower-ranking pack members. Yeah, that is right! My former pack has different schools and other public buildings according to status because the high-ranking members refuse to dine and associate with the lower-ranking members.

“I guess you are neither a student nor a worker, then. How may we help you? May we please know your reason for coming here?.” The guard asked in an alert voice, possibly seeing me as a threat or something.

“I was sent by the Java tutors,” I answered after a moment of thought. At first, I didn’t know how to respond to his question without getting myself in trouble. I could easily say I am a new teacher here, but what if he asks me which class or subject I am to take? I know nothing about that yet. All I know is that I will be serving at the nursery school, that’s all. So to be on the safer side, I decided to say I was sent by the Java tutors since I know that if they decide to ask them, Mrs. Grace can confirm knowing me.

“Alright then. I think I recognize you now. You are among those that were sworn in as members of the pack last week, right?.” Another guard asked.

“Thank God they recognize me!.” I sighed. I was beginning to think about going back home.

"Yes, I was among them.”. I sharply responded.

“Welcome to the pack. Did they give you any papers? I mean from the Java academy.” Guard number one inquired. I stood for a minute, thinking about what he meant. Then, all of a sudden, it kicked into my head. I can’t believe I foolishly wasted my time. I was giving a paper to present so that the school can really confirm that I am indeed truly here with official permission and not just by my own wish. I put my hand into my bag, brought out the paper, and handed it over to the guard who went through it.

“You could have shown us this paper as soon as you arrived and saved both us and yourself all the stress of the questions and answers session.” The guard number two said in a voice that I knew he was indirectly saying I was being foolish. I don’t blame him, though. I am beginning to question myself.

“When you enter inside, go directly to the administration block. It is the building in the middle. Present the paper to them. They will direct you on where to go next.” The guard explained to me as he handed back the paper to me. I bid them a good day and entered the school compound.

Inside the compound stood four gigantic buildings, which were all three-story buildings. All the sizes of the buildings vary.

The first building, which is the nursery, is actually the smallest of all the buildings but also has the most beautiful exterior. The paintings on the wall
were designed in a child-friendly way.

The second building, which is the administrative block, is the second-smallest building out of the four. It is directly in the middle of the school. The next building is the basic elementary block, and the last, which is also the biggest out of the four buildings, is the high school block.

As I head to the administrative block, I can’t help but look around the school. On the left side of the compound, which is close to the high school block, is a very big sports pitch. On the right side, there is a playing field. The playing field is so big that it can fit for a park and not just a school playing field.

After walking for quite a distance, I finally reached the door of the administrative building.
