Chapter thirty one
Sophia POV
Today is the D-day.
In case you don’t know what I am talking about, today is the day that I get to become an official member of this pack. I am excited and nervous at the same time. I could not sleep last night because I was thinking too much.
“What if the pack members don’t like me? What if I make a mess and end up embarrassing myself and my mates?”. And so many other thoughts did not allow me to sleep.
I went downstairs to make a cup of tea so that I could get rid of my eye bags.
I entered the kitchen and found Xiao having a cup of coffee. I contemplated whether I should enter or go back. Ever since the day we shared the kiss, I tried my best not to be left alone with him. I could not look him straight in the eyes anymore. Before I could make a choice myself, Xiao turned and looked at me with a small smile on his face.
“Good morning”. I greeted him.
“Good morning to you dear. Hope you have a wonderful sleep”. Xiao greeted me back.
“Yes”. I gave him a one-word reply as I went to the cabinet brought out a mug and started making my tea. The kitchen was totally silent and none of us was making an effort to talk to each other.
Xiao finished his coffee and washed his mug and placed it back in the cupboard. I let out a breath of relief thinking he had gone. Then suddenly, I felt him standing right at my back and even though he was not touching me, I could feel the hit radiating from his body. My stupid heart then decided to start beating very fast. I seriously need to see Rose on that issue because I am not sure if it’s okay for my heart to be beating this fast all the time. I am afraid that I might get a heart attack soon enough.
I continued stirring my tea as I tried to act as if his standing right at my back did not affect me even a little bit.
“Why have you been avoiding me?”. Xiao asked after standing at my back for a while without saying anything. I kept quiet and continued to stir my tea as if I did not hear what he said.
“Is it because of the kiss we shared?”. Xiao asked me and I froze in my position and stopped what I was doing. I honestly wanted to avoid talking about the kiss. But him standing this close to me reminds me so much of what happened the last time that we were alone in the kitchen. I use my free hand to hold on to my clothes very tight as I try to think of a response to give him.
“So is indeed because of the kiss. Look at me”. Xiao said but I still did not say a word nor make any attempt to turn and look at him.
“Please…” He added but I shook my head, still refusing to turn and look at him. Xiao let out a sigh and decided to do it himself. He held my shoulders and turned me around until I was facing but I still refused to look at him and kept on looking at his shoulders. Xiao then used both of his hands to hold the sides of my face so that I could finally look at him. I wanted to shut my eyes but I believe that will be childish of me.
“Do you regret it?”. He asks with a strange emotion in his eyes.
“What! No!”. I immediately shouted before I started blushing. I can’t believe he thought I regretted the kiss. I haven’t been able to forget about the kiss since then. I kept touching my lips all the time because I could still feel the taste of his mouth.
“Very good. Because that’s just the beginning”. Xiao said with a smile on his face as he peck my forehead. My poor heart is acting as if it is going to fall.
“I will see you, okay?”. Xiao said as he left the kitchen. I stood there standing smiling like a moron before I remembered I had tea to take. Luckily enough for me, the tea was still a little bit cold.
Just as I was washing my mug, Xavier came into the kitchen.
“Good morning little mate”. He greeted me with a smile and went to make himself a cup of coffee.
“Morning!”. I answered him as I dropped the mug in the cupboard.
“How was your night? You are awake quite early today”. Xavier said as he took a sip of his coffee.
“It was fine”. I answered fully facing him.
“So are you nervous about today? You finally get to become an official member of the pack.” Xavier asked me.
“Well, I actually look a bit nervous”. I truthfully answered him.
“Don’t worry everything is going to be alright. The whole ceremony did not take long. Just the oath-taking and a little speech and before you know it the whole ceremony is over.” Xavier explained and I nodded my head. I just wish it would actually be as easy as he makes it to be.
“Don’t worry you will be fine. You have me and Xiao there. We will make sure everything goes well. Okay!”. Xavier tries to lighten me up.
“Okay!”. I responded. Surely I know that the Alphas will present there, nothing is going to go wrong.
“That’s my girl. Now cheer up.” Xavier said as he pecked my cheek and then I left the kitchen and went back to my room.
Since I did not feel like going back to sleep, I decided to practice how I behaved at the ceremony after all there is a saying that says; “practice makes it perfect”.
After about forty-five minutes of practising my welcoming speech and rehearsing my walk and elegant behaviour, I started feeling sleepy so I decided to take a short nap before I woke up and continue later on.
A short nap soon turned into a full-time sleep and I didn’t wake up until two hours thirty minutes later when Amanda popped into my room and violently woke me up.
“I can’t believe you are still asleep. We have so much to do! We haven’t gotten your dress already, your hair, the make-up…” Amanda kept on ranting on and on. She is beginning to give me a headache.
“Amanda, please calm down. I am already awake aren’t I?”. I asked her and she gave me a look of disbelief.
“You are asking me to calm down? What time is it?”. She asked, still maintaining her facial expression.
“Eh …it’s ten O'clock”. I answered her after I checked the time from the clock in my side drawer.
“It’s ten o'clock”. She repeated after me making a funny facial expression which made me laugh but I stopped when I saw how serious she looked.
“For your information, it’s ten o'clock. That means we have less than seven hours to get you ready for the ceremony and we are yet to achieve even one thing. So now, get up and get yourself dressed up in less than five minutes. Do you understand me?”. Amanda commanded.
“Yes ma” I gave a salute as I got up from the bed and walked to my walk-in closet. I grab the first dress my hand can touch and wear it.
I came out and found Amanda pacing up and down.
“Am ready”. I told her with a smile on my face.
“Good then let’s get going. We will first of all go and get your dress before any other thing else”. Amanda said and I just nodded at her.
She kept on ranting on and on as we left the room. I just kept nodding my head at her because I seriously didn’t have the strength to deal with her.
