Chapter thirty six
I stood and waited for him to reach where I was.
“Good evening”. He said to me as he immediately hugged me when he reached the place I was standing.
“Evening”. I replied as I hugged him back, inhaling his scent. He smelled divinely. Like the scent of the fresh trees in the forest mixed with a masculine touch.
“You did great out there! Congratulations to you, the official member of The Sky Blue Pack.”. Xavier smiled as he let go of me.
“Thank you”. I responded, and we both fell silent.
“So...” we both started to say at the same time, causing us to laugh. I guess the pack’s trend is catching up with me now that I am an official member of the pack. It feels good to have a sense of belonging somewhere.
“Ladies first”. Xavier said he was permitted to talk first.
“Alpha first all the time.”. I replied to him.
“But the Alpha is giving you permission to talk first”. Xavier said.
“O no! Sorry I am not going to disobey the pack’s rule on the first day I became a member.” I explained it to him.
“That’s true… where are you going?”. Xavier asked me.
“No way in particular; I just wanted to get away from the noise of the party so I decided to come here”. I explained it to him.
“Okay. I understand. Xiao also hates the afterparty. He is upstairs, resting in Alpha’s lounge. Come, let me show you something.”. Xavier said as he brought his hand out for me to hold. I held his hands, and he started to lead us deeper into the garden. I try to guess where we are going because I am clueless.
They arrived at a small bridge that crossed over a lake. They cross the bridge onto the other side. The place looks like a secret garden. It has a lot of water fountains with water in different colours pouring out of them. I wonder how they made that possible. There were a lot of patios around, too.
“Wow! This place is so beautiful. What is this place meant for, if I may ask?” I asked.
“It is usually for picnics and personal celebrations like birthdays or anniversaries.”. Xavier explained.
The place is very beautiful and quiet, too. We can hear faint music from the party.
“May I have this dance?”. Xavier made a bow with his right hand over his bowed head.
I let out a short, nervous laugh. I have never danced before. Except for when I am taking my shower. I don’t know if it counts now.
“My hand is kind of getting tired.”. Xavier said when he saw that I hadn't replied to him yet.
“As much as I would like to honour your invitation, I can’t because I don’t know how to dance. I mean, I have never danced.”. I explained feeling ashamed that I could not do something simple like dance.
"Well, thank the heavens, you corrected yourself and said that you have never danced. You won’t know if you actually know how to dance or not unless you try it out.” Xavier said as he stood upright.
“I don’t think I should do that.”. I said it in a small voice. I don’t want to disgrace myself in front of him.
"O, come on. There is no harm in trying. I will guide you in every step”. Xavier explained.
“I don’t know.” I started saying:.
“Please!”. Xavier said in a puppy voice that you could not say no to.
“Alright!”. I said.
Xavier then held my left hand with his right hand while he placed his left hand on my waist. I then place my free hand on his shoulders. Xavier started to move us around, with me occasionally stepping on his foot. I kept apologizing for any time I did it but he just laughed it up, saying that he did not mind.
After dancing for some time, we stop and stand still. We're still in each other's arms, our foreheads touching each other.
“So how will you rate my dancing skills?”. I ask him.
Xavier pretended to think about the answer for a while before he spoke out: “Well, on a scale of 1-10, I will say a 2.”.
“Ouch”. I shouted and hit him on the chest as I moved back.
“Calm down. I am just joking. You actually did well for someone who was dancing for the first time. By the time you dance about two to three times, you will be good.”. Xavier said, but I still acted as if I were angry with him. Just as I am about to turn away from him,. I missed a step and started to fall down. I closed my eyes and waited to feel myself on the floor, but it never happened. I opened my eyes to see Xavier holding me tight to my waist.
“Are you alright?”. Xavier asked as he tried to steady me.
“I am fine. Thank you.” I responded as I tried to calm my heartbeat.
I looked up, and my breath hiccupped when I saw the distance between the two of us. If I move my head a little bit, our lips will be touching. I subconsciously lip the bottom of my lips.
“Don’t do that.”. Xavier said it in a voice huskier than his. I looked into his eyes and saw that they had darkened up.
“What are you talking about?” I asked in a voice that did not sound like mine.
“Don’t lick your lips like that.”. Xavier said as he traced his hand over my lower lips. The butterflies in my stomach have gone wild, and I am very sure I can hear my heartbeat.
“Why?”. I asked in a whisper.
“Why don’t I show you!.” Xavier said and with that, he clashed his lips with mine.
