Chapter 29
Phoebe saw Vanessa sitting in the passenger seat and was calm, as if she had already gotten used to it. She directly opened the back door and got in.
Theodore had one hand on the steering wheel and the other on the window. He glanced at the rearview mirror, pretending to be casual, and asked, "How's that artist you're in charge of?"
"He's pretty good." Phoebe replied without looking up, playing on her phone.
She tilted her head to look at the traffic outside the window, her delicate face reflected in the glass. The smooth lines of her chin and neck formed a perfect arc, beautiful and pure.
Theodore pursed his lips, feeling a bit annoyed.
Ever since he transferred Phoebe to QUEEN Entertainment, she no longer took him seriously.
"You're the artist manager. You don't need to run errands," Theodore said after a moment of silence, his words sharp.
Phoebe suddenly sat up straight. Since Theodore brought up her work, she had something to say. She glanced at Vanessa first, then said seriously, "I've been in contact with a very capable top-tier talent agent recently. If we can sign her, I want her to take care of Miss Fitzroy's work and life."
Theodore frowned. "Didn't we agree that you would be Vanessa's agent? Why are you looking for someone else?"
Phoebe sneered inwardly. ‘Did he really want to tie me to Vanessa?’
"What do you think, Miss Fitzroy?" They couldn't agree on this, so Phoebe simply asked Vanessa.
Vanessa turned to them with an innocent look and said, "I'm fine with anything. I'll follow the company's arrangements."
Phoebe looked at Vanessa with a mocking gaze. Vanessa was pretending to be so pure.
"Miss Fitzroy, Mary Watson has produced many top stars. She has extensive experience as an agent. If you want to become famous in the entertainment industry, she is the best choice. If she becomes your agent, you will be a super star." Phoebe said in a businesslike tone.
By saying this, Phoebe was also reminding Vanessa that she had to choose between opposing her and her future career.
Of course, if Vanessa didn't care about her future and just wanted to spite her, that would be another matter.
But clearly, Vanessa hadn't been blinded by love. She was a very ambitious woman, just never showed it to others.
After weighing the pros and cons, Vanessa finally relented, "I'll listen to you."
Theodore's face darkened at her words, and he said nothing more.
Vanessa giggled and tugged at his sleeve, saying coquettishly, "Theodore, don't be mad. Ms. Ziegler is so busy. It's for my own good to have Mary as my agent."
Theodore's expression finally softened a bit. "As long as you don't feel wronged."
"Why would I feel wronged? I've heard of Mary even abroad. She's made many stars famous. Ms. Ziegler must have put in a lot of effort to get her to take me on. I'm grateful to Ms. Ziegler." Vanessa said.
"It's her job." Theodore glanced at the rearview mirror again and saw that Phoebe had turned her head back to the window. He pursed his lips in displeasure.
The place they were going to was far away, and feeling bored in the car, Phoebe took out her phone to scroll through her social media.
But as soon as she opened it, she saw a new post from Vanessa twenty minutes ago.
Vanessa: [Such beautiful hands, it's a pity not to play the piano with them.]
Phoebe frowned at the photo, immediately recognizing Theodore's hand with its long, slender fingers, delicately resting on the steering wheel.
It must have been taken from the passenger seat just now, with only the hand and the steering wheel in the frame.
On a whim, Phoebe clicked into Vanessa's profile and found that Vanessa had posted a lot about domestic matters recently. She posted quite frequently, almost more than two posts a day.
Vanessa started posting from the day she and Phoebe fell into the water. Especially on Taylor's birthday, after they fell into the water, the update frequency was unusually high.
[He came to see me and brought my favorite soup. Turns out he still remembers.] It accompanied by a picture of an open thermos showing clear soup.
[He gave me flowers. After all these years, he still remembers what flowers I like. It's so nice, as if nothing has changed.] It also accompanied by a picture of a bouquet of red roses.
[He peeled an apple for me and even cut it into small pieces. So considerate.] It accompanied by a picture of a plate of cut fruit.
[Why is he so good to me? He even put a coat on me.] It accompanied by a picture of a custom Hermes suit.
The more Phoebe looked, the more uncomfortable she felt. She turned off the screen and put her phone back in her pocket, feeling a chill in her heart.
So, while she was unconscious, Theodore did all these things for Vanessa, but he had never done for her.
By the time Phoebe and the others returned to the Reynolds Mansion, it was completely dark, and the mansion was lit up, dazzling with lights.
Sarah Hernandez was sitting on the living room sofa, surrounded by her children and grandchildren, her face wrinkled with a smile.
Upon seeing Theodore and the others come in, Sarah immediately waved at Phoebe. "Phoebe, come over here; I miss you so much."
Phoebe walked quickly to Sarah's side.
Looking at the kind Sarah in front of her, Phoebe felt as if she was seeing her long-deceased grandmother, and warmth filled her heart. She held Sarah's hand and asked with concern, "Grandma, why did you come back early this year?"
Sarah held Phoebe's hand affectionately, her tone full of concern. "I heard you fell into the water, so I came back early to see you. You still so thin. Theodore, haven't you been treating Phoebe well?" Sarah looked at Theodore reproachfully.
Theodore quickly walked over, smiling. "Grandma, you know Phoebe just doesn't gain weight."
"I hope you're taking care of yourself and eating well." Sarah said, pinching Phoebe's cheek. Looking at her flat stomach, Sarah couldn't help but say, "You're in terrible shape, when will you have a baby?"
Phoebe's face immediately turned red, feeling a bit ashamed.
She knew Sarah always wanted her to have a child, but unfortunately, she might never be able to get pregnant in this lifetime. Thinking of this, she turned to look at Theodore.
Theodore didn't look at her, smiling as he coaxed Sarah, "Grandma, I'll try my best to let you hold a grandchild soon."
Sarah's face lit up with joy at his words. The family was harmonious and happy.
Phoebe pursed her lips, feeling the warmth of the atmosphere but unable to blend in. She couldn't help but look at Vanessa, who was standing not far behind them.
This was supposed to be a family dinner for the Reynolds family, and outsiders weren't usually allowed. But Theodore had invited Vanessa, which showed what he was thinking.
When Theodore said he would try his best, he probably didn't mean with her, but with Vanessa.
After all, with her current physical condition, no amount of effort from him would result in a child.
The thought of Sarah's kindness and warmth being directed towards someone else caused a twinge in Phoebe's heart. She held a genuine affection for Sarah.
At this moment, Vanessa walked over.
She squatted in front of Sarah with a bright smile, and asked, "Sarah, do you remember me?"
Sarah looked at Vanessa for a few seconds and then recognized her, "It's Vanessa, right? You've become more and more beautiful. I almost didn't recognize you."
Vanessa blushed slightly and smiled. "Sarah, you're the real beauty here."
Sarah laughed, very pleased by the compliment, and said, "You have a way with words. When did you come back? Are you staying this time?"
"Yes, this time I'm planning to stay in Kedora. There's something precious I've been pursuing here, and I want to get it back," Vanessa said, glancing shyly at Theodore before lowering her head.
