Chapter 869 If You Can't Win, Run

Alva's bag was a Saint Laurent bag that Madison no longer used. It was angular and hard, and when it hit her head and hands, bruises quickly formed.

She leaned against the wall and slowly slid to the ground.

Alva was still hitting her frantically, "Grace, you little bitch, if anything happens to Madison, I'll make sure you end up in prison for life."

Taylor saw Alva rushing over and hitting Grace like she was her mortal enemy.

She was stunned, and by the time she reacted, Grace was already on the ground, unable to defend herself.

Seeing Grace being bullied, Taylor felt uncomfortable. She always thought that Grace, in the Sullivan family, would be as cherished as Madison in the Reynolds family.

She never expected them to beat Grace like this in front of her.

Taylor quickly walked over and grabbed Alva's hand, "What's wrong with you? Grace is my daughter. How dare you hit her?"

Alva, still furious, kicked Grace, "You little bitch, I raised you for nothing. Why don't you just die?"

Alva's words were excessively vicious.

Taylor couldn't hold back any longer and slapped Alva across the face. Alva was stunned, covering her burning cheek, glaring at Taylor, "You hit me?"

Taylor stood in front of Grace, glaring at Alva, "Someone like you, who thinks they can get away with anything just because they're older, deserves to be hit."

Alva was very angry, but seeing that it was Taylor, she didn't dare to say anything, "I'm disciplining my daughter. Why are you interfering?"

"Your daughter? You switched Madison to my family back then, and I pampered Madison like a princess. But you, you just beat and scolded Grace. Do you have any conscience?" Taylor got angrier as she spoke.

When Alva visited the estate to see Grace before, she was very affectionate, but Grace was cold towards her.

Taylor thought that after Grace returned to the Reynolds family, she started to look down on her poor adoptive parents, which made her feel particularly heartbroken.

Now, seeing Alva beating and scolding Grace with her own eyes, she couldn't stand it.

Alva's face changed slightly. This was bad. Her true nature was exposed in front of Taylor. If Taylor suspected anything because of this, she would mess things up.

She forced herself to hold back her anger and suddenly started crying loudly, "Mrs. Reynolds, I'm just worried about Grace. Did I hurt you, Grace? I'm sorry, I was too anxious. Let me see if you're hurt."

As Alva spoke, she reached out to grab Grace's hand, but Grace shook her off coldly, "Don't act in front of me. It's disgusting."

Taylor looked at her in astonishment, "Grace."

Grace looked at Taylor with hatred. She had been beaten by both Taylor and Alva, and her heart was completely cold, "I know you don't want to acknowledge me. It's okay, really. You can pretend I don't exist, and I'll pretend you're not my mom."

With that, she turned and walked away.

Taylor panicked and quickly chased after her. Grace ran fast and rushed to the elevator just as the doors were closing. She slipped inside.

By the time Taylor reached the elevator, it was already descending. She angrily pounded on the elevator doors, "Grace!"

Grace rushed into the elevator so quickly that she couldn't stop in time and fell into someone's arms. A faint, pleasant scent of perfume filled her nose.

She looked up in fright and met a pair of particularly familiar eyes. The person was wearing a baseball cap and a black mask, revealing only a pair of very recognizable eyes.

At that moment, there were only the two of them in the elevator. Grace exclaimed, "Evan?"

It was indeed Evan. After helping her stand up, he looked her over for a few seconds and clicked his tongue, "So ugly, Grace. You're getting uglier."

Grace's cheeks were swollen, and she was full of grievances. Hearing Evan's clear mockery, tears welled up in her eyes.

"So what if I'm ugly? What does it have to do with you?"

Before she could finish speaking, she started to sob, and tears streamed down her cheeks. Why did everyone treat her this way? What had she done wrong?

Evan didn't expect her to cry so suddenly and panicked, "Hey, I was just teasing you. Why are you crying?"

She didn't cry when she was beaten, but now she was crying so dramatically just because he teased her. Anyone who didn't know would think he had bullied her.

Evan quickly pulled a handkerchief from his pocket and handed it to her, "Wipe your tears. The elevator is almost there."

Grace knew they were public figures, especially Evan, who was very famous. If someone took a picture, it might lead to rumors.

She took the handkerchief and wiped her tears while saying, "Still carrying a handkerchief? Like an old-fashioned man."

Evan glanced at her. Grace's looks weren't particularly striking, but her bare face without makeup was quite pretty, with clear skin and no visible pores.

Therefore, her swollen cheeks looked particularly noticeable.

When she reached out to take the handkerchief, there were scratch marks on the back of her hand, as if she had just been in a fight.

Judging by her current aggrieved appearance, it was clear she had lost the fight and was now feeling dejected.

Evan sighed, "You're quick and sharp when it comes to arguing with me."

Grace felt a bit embarrassed. She lowered her head and wiped her tears. Fortunately, she didn't usually wear makeup when resting, or her face would be a mess.

"Sorry, I'm just in a bad mood."

"Who can be happy every day in this world?" Evan glanced at her. "Come on, don't let it get to you. How about I take you for a drive?"

Evan's car was parked in the underground garage. After getting off the elevator, they encountered medical staff and quickly lowered their heads and walked away.

Grace sat in the passenger seat, and the car quickly drove off. Evan asked, "Did you get into a fight? You look so disheveled."

"I wouldn't dare. It was others who hit me," Grace said, feeling aggrieved.

She didn't dare to hit back at either of the two people who hit her, which made her feel even more frustrated.

Evan said, "Next time someone hits you, don't just stand there and take it. If you can't win, run. Standing there and getting hit is too stupid."

"Oh," Grace replied, feeling downcast.

Evan glanced at her, seeing how pitiful she looked, and sighed helplessly, "Aren't you going to tell me what happened?"

Grace bit her lip. Her background wasn't a secret in their circle, especially since Madison always targeted her in various situations.

Their identities as the real and fake daughters of the Reynolds family were often a topic of gossip.

She bit her lip, "Madison tried to push me down the stairs. I dodged in time, and she probably didn't expect me to avoid it, so she ended up falling herself."

Evan said, "Rich families are more dramatic than TV shows. So your biological mother blamed you?"

"Yes, not just my biological mother, but my adoptive mother too. They both thought I did it on purpose. They didn't even ask me what happened and just assumed I was guilty," Grace said, feeling hurt.
