Chapter 33
Phoebe took advantage of Vanessa's moment of distraction to snatch the towel. She turned and went back to the bedroom, seeing Theodore lying on the couch, shaking with anger.
She thought to herself, ‘Theodore, do you really have to humiliate me like this? I don't mind that you like Vanessa, but I'm still your wife right now. Do you have to make love to her right in front of me? If you like Vanessa, you can ask me for a divorce. I will sign the papers right away and then wish you both well. But why do you have to treat me like this? You force keeping me around, even though you don't like me. Am I really that unforgivable?'
Phoebe's eyes grew redder and redder. She clutched the towel and finally threw it forcefully at Theodore's face.
Theodore was sleeping soundly when he suddenly felt something hit him. The texture was a bit strange. He sat up and pulled the thing off his face.
As Theodore was still puzzled, he heard a loud slam of the door.
Looking down at the towel in his hand, he turned to the tightly closed bedroom door, his expression somewhat bewildered. Phoebe went downstairs and was immediately called into a room by Taylor.
Brandon Reynolds was not there, and Taylor seemed to have just woken up. She was wearing pajamas and sitting in front of the vanity mirror, applying the lotion. When she saw Phoebe come in, she immediately smiled and asked, "How did you sleep last night?"
Phoebe said, "I slept okay."
Taylor turned her head and looked at Phoebe's still red eyes. She frowned and asked, "Theodore wasn't in your room last night?"
Phoebe bit her lip and instinctively avoided Taylor's gaze, saying, "He was."
Taylor, being in her fifties, could easily tell that Phoebe was lying. She didn't expose Phoebe but instead asked, "Have you been taking the supplements I bought for you? Both Sarah and I are looking forward to having a grandchild."
"Mom, I..." Phoebe was angry by Theodore and wanted to tell Taylor that she could never get pregnant, hoping Taylor would intervene in her divorce with Theodore.
But Phoebe knew the consequences of acting on impulse. Theodore had explicitly forbidden her from mentioning this. Anything else could be discussed, but if she defied him on this matter, Theodore would definitely not let her off.
Phoebe choked up but eventually lowered her head. "It's nothing. I'll take the medicine and take care of my body."
"Good," Taylor nodded in satisfaction. "I asked Riley to prepare you some supplement again. Take it before you go to work."
"Okay." Phoebe secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Taylor was not as shrewd as Theodore.
Phoebe turned to leave and saw Vanessa and Theodore coming down the stairs together. She didn't know what Vanessa was saying, but Theodore had a faint smile on his lips.
Instinctively, she shrank back into the room. Only after Vanessa and Theodore had gone did she leave through the back door of the villa.
It wasn't that she was afraid of Vanessa and Theodore; she just didn't want to ruin her mood for the day.
Phoebe took a cab to the company. It was still early, and there were hardly any people in front of the office building.
After paying the fare, Phoebe was about to walk into the company when she suddenly saw a familiar black Mercedes parked not far away. The window was half down, and she saw a man and a woman in the back seat, kissing.
Phoebe was shocked. She recognized the car; it was Theodore's father Brandon's vehicle. The man inside was undoubtedly Brandon.
Her heart raced. She had caught Brandon cheating.
Before Phoebe could recover, she saw Brandon get out of the car. She quickly hid behind a large pillar, her heart pounding.
Brandon didn't see her.
As the footsteps neared, Phoebe felt her heart racing in her chest. Thankfully, they eventually receded.
She breathed a sigh of relief, watching from behind the pillar as Brandon entered the elevator.
She was almost exhausted.
What should she do now? Phoebe stood there in a daze for a long time, feeling very conflicted and not knowing what to do.
After a long time of indecision, Phoebe suddenly regretted coming to the office so early. If she had come later, she might not have witnessed this scene and wouldn't be in such a dilemma.
Just as she was thinking this, her phone suddenly rang.
Phoebe picked up her phone and saw Brandon's name on the screen.
In her panic, Phoebe dropped her phone to the ground. She thought, ‘Oh no, Brandon must have seen me just now.'
After a long time, the phone kept ringing. She had no choice but to bend down, pick up the phone, and answer it with a pounding heart.
Brandon's authoritative voice came from the other end. "Phoebe, come to my office."
"Oh." After hanging up, Phoebe slapped her forehead.
She dawdled outside the chairman's office for a long time. The office area was exceptionally quiet, and she could even hear her own thunderous heartbeat.
Phoebe spent several minutes building up her courage before she could barely steady her nerves and muster the strength to knock on the office door. Brandon's authoritative voice came from inside. "Come in."
Phoebe cautiously pushed the door open and saw Brandon, who had changed into a different shirt, sitting on the couch. It was as if the person who had just been cheating in the car wasn't him.
Brandon gestured to the couch opposite him. "Have a seat."
Phoebe sat down on the couch, not daring to let her gaze linger on Brandon.
Brandon was the head of the Reynolds Group. He had been in a high position for a long time, with a stern and serious personality. Just standing there, he exuded a powerful aura that kept people at a distance.
Phoebe always instinctively kept her distance from Brandon, maintaining only a superficial relationship.
She had been married to Theodore for three years and had lived in the Reynolds Mansion for more than half a year, but she didn't have much interaction with Brandon.
"Brandon, is there something you need to tell me?" Phoebe's heart was pounding so hard that she stuttered.
Seeing her so frightened and completely lacking her usual calm demeanor, Brandon knew she must have seen what happened earlier.
He frowned. "Phoebe, how long have you been married Theodore?"
"Three years," Phoebe quickly replied.
Brandon nodded. "Three years already, huh? Time flies. How's things with Theodore?"
Phoebe lowered her head. "It's okay."
Brandon had no intention of making things difficult for her. He leaned forward and placed a signed check on the table, saying, "You've been married Theodore for three years, and I haven't gotten you any decent gifts. Here, take this cash and treat yourself to something nice. "
Phoebe stared at the hefty amount on the check, realizing it was hush money. She quickly stood up, looked Brandon in the eye, and said, "Dad, I didn't see anything today, and you didn't see me either."
After saying that, she bowed to Brandon and hurried out.
She didn't dare to take the check. If the affair ever came to light and Taylor found out she was involved, Taylor would tear her apart.
If she didn't say anything, Taylor would never know about Brandon's affair. If she did, the Reynolds family would be thrown into chaos.
At that moment, the elevator doors opened, and Phoebe, like a headless chicken, rushed in, almost bumping into someone. That person grabbed her shoulders. "Phoebe, why are you in such a hurry?"
Phoebe looked up and saw Theodore glaring at her angrily. She didn't know where she got the courage, but she punched him in the chest. "It's all your fault."
Theodore, bewildered by her sudden attack, quickly grabbed her wrist. "Phoebe, are you nuts? How is this all on me? Explain.."
Phoebe, being a bad mood, couldn't hold back her panic any longer and burst into tears.
