Chapter 927 Her Teeth Marks Resemble a Butterfly

Phoebe had just wrapped up a meeting when Brian called.

The meeting was all about the future development and resource allocation for the company's actors.

The room had been a battleground of agents fiercely advocating for their clients, and Phoebe's ears were still ringing from the chaos.

Running an entertainment company was no walk in the park, especially one at the epicenter of fame and fortune.

One wrong move can lead to drastically different outcomes.

Even within the same company, the competition among actors is cutthroat.

Phoebe rubbed her aching head as she returned to her office.

Lori came in with a cup of coffee, noticing Phoebe's distressed expression. She chuckled, "Every Christmas, it's the same old drama. Everyone gets all worked up and starts fighting for their spot."

"They nearly tore me apart in there!" Phoebe exclaimed, exasperated. "They're usually so laid-back, but come Christmas, they all want to be the star at the holiday party. Now they decide to fight?"

Lori couldn't help but laugh. "Our company is tame compared to others. I heard some places have agents throwing punches. Ms. Ziegler, if you're fed up, you could always call in sick for these meetings."

Despite her frustration, Phoebe couldn't bring herself to skip the meetings. "Forget it. The entertainment industry has limited resources. If one actor gets more, another gets less. No actor stays on top forever. The ones who are popular this year might not even be remembered next year."

Lori knew Phoebe was genuinely upset. "Ms. Ziegler, even if we know that's true, we shouldn't say it out loud."

Their company had several high-profile stars, and it wouldn't be wise to speak negatively.

Phoebe managed a smile, but her phone rang again. Seeing the caller ID, her smile froze.

Lori saw Phoebe answer the call and quietly left the room.

"Phoebe, it's Brian. I'm near your office today and thought we hadn't seen each other in a while. Do you have time for lunch?" Brian's voice was gentle.

Phoebe walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, the midday sun shining through. "Sure."

After hanging up, she stood by the window for a moment, watching a black sedan pull up outside.

She sighed, grabbed her bag, and headed downstairs.

In the elevator, she decided to inform Theodore about her lunch with Brian.

Theodore had been on edge about the Vanderbilt family lately.

After the rough night she had with Theodore, she didn't dare challenge his authority again.

Theodore quickly responded with a video call. Phoebe smiled, "Why a video call?"

Mr. Reynolds looked slightly distorted on the screen, staring intently at her. "Is it just you and Brian?"

Phoebe nodded quickly. "Of course. Brian knows better than to involve Edward now. Don't worry."

"I'm not convinced," Theodore said seriously. "I haven't had lunch yet. Why don't you ask Brian if I can join?"

Phoebe laughed, "Mr. Reynolds, asking to join lunch? He might think the Reynolds Group is going bankrupt."

"If the Reynolds Group did go bankrupt, would you support me?" Theodore asked earnestly, as if the company's collapse was imminent.

Phoebe replied, "Stop joking. Who curses their own company?"

Theodore laughed.

Phoebe watched him laugh, thinking how handsome he was. "I'd have to work hard to support Mr. Reynolds. My assets aren't enough."

Theodore, now reassured, dropped the idea of joining lunch.

After ending the call, Phoebe left the building and saw Brian waiting by the car.

Brian waved and opened the passenger door. "Hop in."

Phoebe smiled, thanked him, and got in.

Brian soon joined her and drove off.

He glanced at her neck, noticing a faint bite mark that resembled a butterfly.

"That bite mark on your neck looks like a butterfly tattoo. It's quite pretty," Brian remarked.

Phoebe touched her neck, recalling a night three years ago and the black butterfly that seemed to fly before her eyes.

She shook her head. No, it couldn't be a coincidence.

Brian noticed her change in expression. "What are you thinking about?"

Phoebe pointed to the bite mark. "Does it look like a butterfly?"

At a red light, Brian took a closer look. "On second thought, not really."

Phoebe felt a pang of disappointment.

What was she thinking? Trying to pin Hubert, Boris, and Noomi on Theodore was too much.

As they drove, Brian said, "I heard you and Theodore got back together. You're stubborn, Phoebe."

Phoebe looked ahead, smiling wryly. "Yeah, I guess I am."

Brian wanted to pry more, but decided against it. "So, Edward has no chance?"

Phoebe remained silent.

Brian sighed. "He's been going to Canada a lot these past three years. I thought you two had a chance. Phoebe, tell me, why not Edward?"

He almost said that even Theodore, who didn't save his first love, was accepted back by her. Why did Edward, who did so much, get rejected?

Phoebe pursed her lips. "Brian, can we not talk about Edward today?"

Brian tightened his grip on the steering wheel.

He had come to discuss Edward, but seeing her resistance, he wisely changed the subject.

"Benjamin talks about you all the time. When winter break comes, you should take him home for a few days to bond with Hubert, Boris, and Noomi."

Talking about the kids lightened Phoebe's mood.

She smiled. "Benjamin's in kindergarten now, right?"

"Yes, he's grown so much. I remember when he was born, he was so tiny," Brian gestured the size, "I was afraid I'd drop him."

Brian's face lit up with the joy of a new father, but Phoebe felt a bit melancholic.

"Benjamin is very considerate. My mom said he's taking care of people now."

Brian nodded. "Yes, he's very well-behaved. He even brings me my slippers when I get home. Every time Bianca and I argue about divorce, I think of him. It's too sad for him to live without both parents."

Phoebe turned to him. "Brian, Bianca is a wonderful woman. You should make it work, for Benjamin's sake."
