Chapter 944 Theodore's Illegitimate Child

Phoebe raised an eyebrow, clearly surprised. "Mr. Upton, what do you need to confess to me?"

Raphael looked down, feeling the weight of his past actions.

Confessing wasn't easy, but he needed Phoebe on his side to navigate this social minefield.

"Three years ago, when you applied for the secretary job, I invited you to a party that night. I had some plans against you," Raphael admitted, his voice shaky.

Phoebe responded calmly, "I know."

Raphael's head shot up, eyes wide. "You knew?"

Phoebe nodded. "Yeah, I knew. I'm not some naive college grad. But that night, I ended up on the wrong floor and didn't make it to the room you booked."

"What?" Raphael was stunned.

No wonder Edward had been so cold to him afterward, treating him like an enemy.

So nothing had happened that night. But where had Phoebe gone?

Raphael didn't dare to ask for more details.

Phoebe continued, "Mr. Upton, I didn't know what kind of person you were back then, but after I started working at the company, I heard a lot of rumors about you."

Raphael wiped his face, feeling awkward. "Why didn't you confront me then?"

"If I had confronted you, would you have admitted it?"

Raphael was taken aback by her question.

Phoebe shook her head. "You wouldn't have, so I didn't want to waste my energy. But since then, I've always been cautious around you, even now."

Raphael quickly said, "Ms. Ziegler, I wouldn't dare to try anything with you now."

"You certainly wouldn't. But I'm curious, why are you telling me this now?" Phoebe's gaze was piercing, as if she could see into the depths of his soul.

Someone like Raphael would never do anything that didn't benefit himself.

There had to be a reason for his sudden confession.

Raphael licked his lips nervously. "There is a reason, Ms. Ziegler. If I tell you, can you promise to let bygones be bygones? If Mr. Reynolds ever finds out I tried to set you up, could you put in a good word for me?"

Phoebe narrowed her eyes, understanding his motive for coming clean.

Raphael wouldn't have come to her without a hidden agenda.

"It depends on the value of what you have to tell me."

Raphael looked at Phoebe, realizing she was in control of the conversation, effortlessly steering the negotiation. He had underestimated her.

A woman who had been by Theodore's side for four years was indeed smart.

Raphael said, "Someone came to me today asking about you. It was my former secretary, Xyla. I don't know if you have any issues with her."

Phoebe frowned, thinking. "Xyla?"

She didn't know anyone named Xyla, but if someone was specifically asking about her, there had to be a reason. "What was she asking about?"

"She was asking about that night, how you accompanied me to the party and had relations with a major client. I'm worried she might blow this up and affect your relationship with Mr. Reynolds. What do you think we should do?" Raphael was trying to set a trap for Phoebe.

That night, after Phoebe went upstairs, Raphael had someone keep an eye on her. She didn't come down until early morning, and someone saw her get into Edward's car.

She had said she went to the wrong floor, so Edward must have missed her. Who did she end up with?

The next day, Raphael tried to check the hotel surveillance, but was told the cameras were down.

He even heard the security guard complain about how many people had tried to check the footage that day.

It was clear that the man with Phoebe that night was someone very important and sensitive.

Phoebe shook her head. "She won't cause me much trouble. Thanks for the heads-up, Mr. Upton. We don't need to see each other again."

Raphael's face turned pale.

After Raphael left, Phoebe stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, looking at the clouds outside.

Edward had bought the Azure Palace Hotel, ensuring that night would remain buried in the past.

She couldn't find any traces, and it would be nearly impossible for Xyla to uncover anything.

Yet, for some reason, Phoebe felt a faint anticipation for what Xyla might discover.

Xyla, with Dane in tow, headed straight to the Reynolds Group. She was confident that the information she had would be enough to drive a wedge between Phoebe and Theodore.

At the Reynolds Group's reception, the receptionist saw Xyla and Dane storm in, demanding to see Theodore.

She thought Xyla might be Theodore's mistress, bringing a child to confront him.

Seeing Xyla's assertive demeanor, the receptionist didn't dare delay and called Carol. "Carol, there's a woman downstairs wanting to see Mr. Reynolds. She has a child with her. Could it be Mr. Reynolds'..."

"Don't spread rumors without evidence. I'll come down," Carol replied.

Carol took the elevator down and saw the mother and child drinking coffee in the lobby.

She couldn't be sure if they were in Theodore's secret affair.

Xyla stood up, looking down at Carol. "I need to see Mr. Reynolds. I have something important to tell him. If you stop me and it affects the child, Mr. Reynolds will hold you responsible."

Carol exchanged a glance with the receptionist. "Xyla, right? Please follow me."

Xyla breathed a sigh of relief and picked up Dane, following Carol to the elevator.

After graduating, Xyla's first choice was the Reynolds Group, but the company had high standards, and she couldn't get in with her degree from a second-rate university.

She ended up working elsewhere, gaining experience before becoming Raphael's secretary.

Years in Kedora had shown her the lavish lifestyle of the wealthy, and she had become materialistic.

Eventually, she even resorted to selling her body to secure a place in the bustling city.

The elevator was spotless, and stepping out, she entered the heart of the Reynolds Group—the power center, Theodore's office.

Xyla was captivated by the opulent office space, with crystal chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, exuding luxury.

This was the grandeur and confidence of a major corporation.

Just looking at it made her feel that working here would be a dream, let alone becoming Mrs. Reynolds.

Xyla's soul trembled with desire, eager to replace Phoebe and take her place.
