Chapter 951 The Adult's Secret
Theodore chuckled and grabbed Phoebe's hand, heading towards the door. "Come on, I'll drive you to work."
Phoebe shook her head. "No need. I asked Guadalupe to pick me up. I have a meeting with a producer to discuss some things."
Phoebe had been thinking about getting into the film industry.
Many media companies didn't just focus on creating stars; relying solely on actors was too risky for a company's future.
Theodore looked a bit bummed. "You're busy, huh?"
Phoebe smiled. "Yeah, bonus season is coming up. If I don't hustle, the employees might not get their nice bonuses."
Theodore sighed and gently ruffled her hair. "Just don't overdo it, okay?"
"Don't worry, I know my limits." She replied.
The three of them took the elevator downstairs.
Jack brought the car around, and Phoebe opened the back door, turning to Theodore. "Mr. Reynolds, hop in."
Theodore sighed and walked over, giving Phoebe a quick kiss on the cheek. "See you tonight!"
He got into the car, and Phoebe closed the door, watching the Maybach drive away.
She touched her warm cheek and chuckled to herself.
All companies were in overtime mode before Christmas, especially media companies.
The company's annual parties were packed into these few months, with celebrities invited to attend.
Whenever there was a red carpet event, male and female stars competed to outshine each other, and fans compared them.
Companies were on high alert, ready to handle any PR crises that might pop up.
After meeting with the producer, Phoebe felt a bit tired.
Since the meeting location was close to Lakeview Estates, she decided to go home and check on Hubert, Boris, and Noomi, take a nap, and then head to the office in the afternoon.
At home, Hubert, Boris, and Noomi were having lunch.
Phoebe changed her shoes and walked into the dining room.
Hubert, Boris, and Noomi all called out, "Mom!" Noomi said, "Mom, are you gonna eat with us? We have cod today."
Phoebe smiled and patted her head. "I already ate before coming home. You guys enjoy your meal."
"Okay."
Evelyn asked, "How's Theodore? Is his back injury serious? Should I go to the hospital to check on him? How did it happen?"
Phoebe pulled out a chair and sat down. "He's fine. He was discharged this morning."
"Discharged already? I was planning to take Hubert, Boris, and Noomi to visit him this afternoon," Evelyn said.
"It's the end of the year, and the company is busy. He doesn't have time to stay in the hospital. Besides, the doctor said it's not serious. He's wearing a back brace."
Evelyn glared at her. "No matter how busy he is, his health is more important. If a man injures his back, your happiness in the future..."
"Mom!" Phoebe quickly interrupted her, glancing nervously at Hubert, Boris, and Noomi. "The doctor said he's fine. Don't worry."
Evelyn sighed. "I'm just concerned about you."
Phoebe didn't comment further.
She finished lunch with Hubert, Boris, and Noomi, wiped their mouths with napkins, and took them to the playroom to digest their food.
Downstairs, there was a dedicated playroom with thick foam mats on the floor to prevent the kids from getting hurt if they fell.
Hubert, Boris, and Noomi were full of energy after lunch, unable to sit still.
Phoebe sat nearby, watching them.
Before long, she started nodding off.
Hubert, Boris, and Noomi were climbing around when they noticed Phoebe had fallen asleep.
Hubert put his thumb to his lips and whispered, "Shh."
The playroom instantly quieted down.
Hubert, Boris, and Noomi tiptoed over to Phoebe, squatting in front of her.
Noomi whispered, "Mom looks so tired, she fell asleep sitting up."
"We shouldn't wake her," Boris said.
"I want to sleep too," Hubert said, yawning and lying down next to Phoebe, snuggling against her leg.
Noomi and Boris quickly claimed the other side.
Noomi was faster than Boris, lying on Phoebe's other leg and happily swinging her leg.
Boris was annoyed.
He sat there sulking, but Noomi, being too young, didn't realize Boris was upset and soon fell asleep.
Phoebe was only lightly napping and woke up when Hubert, Boris, and Noomi were jockeying for position.
But a smart mom knew to pretend to be asleep in such moments.
Once things settled down, she quietly opened her eyes, glancing left and right.
She saw Hubert and Noomi lying on either side of her legs, already snoring softly.
Only Boris was sitting with his back to her, clearly upset.
Phoebe whispered, "Boris, come here."
Boris turned around, his eyes bright, but then he looked down sadly. "I didn't get a spot."
Phoebe smiled, understanding what he meant. She reached out her hand. "Come here, I'll hold you."
Boris's eyes lit up again. He got up and ran over.
Phoebe stretched out her arms and hugged him, kissing his forehead.
Boris looked up at her. "Mom, I have a secret to tell you."
Phoebe blinked and spoke gently. "What secret?"
"Two nights ago, I saw Theodore pull out one of Hubert's hairs and put it in a strange little bag. Do you think he's going to do something bad with Hubert's hair?" Boris asked worriedly.
This had been bothering him for two days.
After watching a sci-fi cartoon yesterday, he learned that a person's hair could be used to clone them, and he hadn't slept well since.
If Theodore used Hubert's hair to clone him, Boris wouldn't know if the real Hubert or the clone was by his side.
Phoebe was stunned.
Why would Theodore pull out Hubert's hair?
Seeing her silence, Boris got nervous, like a child who had done something wrong. "Mom, did I do something wrong?"
Phoebe snapped out of it, seeing his anxious expression. She gently shook her head. "You didn't do anything wrong, Boris. I'm sorry, I was just distracted."
Boris still looked worried, so Phoebe sighed. "It's okay. I couldn't bring myself to pull out Hubert's hair, so I asked Theodore to do it. He won't do anything bad with it, don't worry."
Boris thought for a moment. "Why did you need to pull out Hubert's hair? Is he sick?"
"No," Phoebe was stumped by Boris's question.
Among Hubert, Boris, and Noomi, Boris was the smartest. Despite his young age, he was very clever.
For example, if Hubert, Boris, and Noomi were told a picture book, Hubert and Noomi would retell it as a different story, but Boris would repeat it accurately and even add his insights.
If it were Hubert or Noomi, Phoebe could brush them off with a few words, knowing they wouldn't remember. But with Boris, she had to be more careful.
Just as Phoebe was struggling, Boris spoke up. "Is it an adult's secret?"
