Chapter 943 Confession Leads to Leniency

The woman's name was Xyla. She sensed something and quickly asked, "What big client?"

"I don't remember. Why are you asking all of a sudden?" her friend replied, puzzled.

She knew that Xyla had abandoned her first love for wealth and climbed into an older man's bed.

Now, she had a son with the older man, but his wife was still very much alive, so he couldn't marry Xyla.

He kept her and the child outside the family home.

As a result, Xyla's personality had become increasingly bitter and extreme.

She would criticize mistresses and scorn happy couples.

Over time, their interactions had dwindled.

"It's nothing. I'm looking into something that could change my situation. It's very important to me," Xyla said. "Can you help me check the records from back then and see where that banquet was held?"

"I can try, but it's been so long. I might not find anything," her friend said reluctantly.

"Please do your best. If you can't find it, I'll think of something else. Thank you. Whether I can change my fate depends on you," Xyla said.

Her friend couldn't refuse after hearing that, so she agreed.

The next day at noon, Xyla took her child to a coffee shop near the company.

Not long after, her friend Zola hurried in and sat across from them.

Xyla said to her child, "Say hi to your godmother."

"Hi, godmother," Dane said shyly, then hid in Xyla's arms. Zola laughed, "Dane is so shy. Is he starting kindergarten next year?"

"Yeah, but he's very timid outside," Xyla said, frowning in disapproval.

Zola was displeased. "You shouldn't talk about your child like that. Don't keep him cooped up at home. Take him out to play with other kids, and he'll become braver."

Xyla wasn't there to chat. She quickly shifted the topic to Phoebe. "Did you find out anything?"

Zola nodded. "Yeah, the records are in the administrative department's archive. I found that the banquet was at the Azure Palace Hotel, hosted by the Ramirez Group. But I couldn't find details about the important guests they were trying to win over."

Xyla knew it wasn't easy to find this information after three years. It looked like she needed to meet Raphael.

"Thank you, you're a lifesaver," Xyla said.

Zola shook her head helplessly. "I just want to see you doing well. But why does changing your fate have anything to do with Phoebe? You two don't have any connection."

"I'll tell you later," Xyla said, not elaborating. After Zola left for work, Xyla called Raphael.

Ten minutes later, Raphael stormed into the coffee shop, glaring at Xyla. "What did you mean on the phone?"

Xyla nodded slowly. "Sit down, Mr. Upton. I haven't had a chance to congratulate you on your promotion."

Raphael sat down, looked around, and lowered his voice. "What do you want? I'm busy and don't have time to waste."

"I just think that with your current position, you owe some of your success to me. What would the higher-ups think if they knew how you used our business dealings to climb the ladder?" Xyla said.

Raphael glared at her. "You were willing to do it back then. Are you threatening me now?"

Xyla shook her head. "I don't want to make things difficult for you. I just want to know something. If you tell me, I won't bother you again."

Raphael looked at her warily. "What do you want to know? If it's company secrets, I won't tell you."

Xyla said, "Phoebe. I want to know who you sent Phoebe to at the Azure Palace Hotel that night."

Raphael was stunned. "Why do you want to know that?"

Xyla said coldly, "That's not your concern. Just tell me who you sent Phoebe to, and I won't involve you in anything else."

Raphael bit his lip. He remembered Phoebe well.

He later found out how significant she was.

She had been in a secret marriage with Theodore for four years, and he had sent her to Edward's bed.

He had been avoiding Theodore ever since, fearing his wrath if the truth came out.

"I've done this kind of thing so many times. How am I supposed to remember?" Raphael tried to dodge the question.

He didn't want to provoke Theodore, especially now that Edward had proposed to Phoebe publicly and been rejected.

It seemed she was with Theodore now.

If the truth came out, he wouldn't know what hit him.

Xyla narrowed her eyes. "Is that so? Then I'll ask Mr. Reynolds if he knows who Phoebe was with that night."

"Xyla, don't drag me down with you," Raphael snapped. "I'm warning you not to cause trouble."

"You caused this. If you tell me, I won't expose you. But if you don't, I'll make sure you never recover," Xyla threatened.

Raphael saw her determination and gritted his teeth. "Fine, I'll tell you. I gave Phoebe a room key and another to Edward. What happened that night is between them."

Xyla's expression softened, and she smiled. "Mr. Upton, I won't forget your help. I promise I won't expose you."

Raphael looked at her, unsure of her intentions, but he advised, "Xyla, for old times' sake, don't mess with Mr. Reynolds and Phoebe. They're not people you can handle."

Xyla picked up Dane and walked out. "Take care of yourself. Walk too many dark paths, and you'll meet a ghost. Don't say I didn't warn you."

Raphael watched her leave, conflicted. He decided to go to the Empire State Building to apologize to Phoebe.

When Phoebe heard someone was looking for her, she asked Lori to bring him to her office. She was surprised to see Raphael.

They had run into each other at a hotel once, but he hadn't spoken to her much. His visit today was unexpected.

"Mr. Upton, please sit. Lori, get our guest some coffee."

Lori left, and Phoebe sat across from Raphael, noticing his unease. "What brings you here, Mr. Upton?"

The kinder Phoebe was, the more uncomfortable Raphael felt. He rubbed his hands together awkwardly. "Ms. Ziegler, I have something to confess."
