Chapter 892 Not Allowed to Cry for Other Men

The air suddenly fell silent. After a long pause, Edward finally laughed, staring intently into Phoebe's eyes. "Phoebe, has anyone ever told you that you're the most heartless person in the world?"

Phoebe turned away. "Let's go."

Edward glared at her back before turning and leaving without another word. The door slammed shut behind him.

Phoebe collapsed onto the couch, feeling utterly drained. Despite preparing herself mentally, the moment of their breakup still hurt deeply.

She buried her face in her hands, her shoulders trembling slightly at first, then shaking more violently. Tears soaked her palms and dripped onto the floor, quickly forming a small wet patch on the carpet.

Theodore was feeling uneasy today. After the morning meeting, his eyelid kept twitching. He took out his phone and opened Phoebe's contact.

His finger hovered over the screen for a long time. Remembering they were still in a cold war, he angrily flipped his phone face down on the desk.

Just then, Lawton came in with some documents. Noticing Theodore's foul mood, Lawton cautiously asked, "Mr. Reynolds, you have a business trip to Riaca City this afternoon. Should I send someone else?"

Theodore frowned. "No, I'll go."

"I'll head to the Imperial Apartment to pack your bags then." Lawton nodded and turned to leave. He added, "By the way, Mr. Vanderbilt went to Superstar Entertainment earlier."

Theodore's gaze snapped to him, startling Lawton into taking a step back. He thought, Theodore still cares about Phoebe. "What was he doing there?"

"No idea. He had a closed-door meeting with Ms. Ziegler for over an hour. Mr. Vanderbilt left looking very upset, so they probably disagreed."

Theodore remembered seeing Donovan that day. Donovan had told Phoebe many things she kept to herself, likely waiting for Edward to confront her so she could clear everything up.

Lawton waited for a while, watching Theodore's expression change unpredictably. He cautiously reminded, "Mr. Reynolds, should I..."

"Lawton, send someone else to Riaca City. Cancel all my afternoon and evening appointments." Theodore interrupted.

Lawton was speechless. Just moments ago, Theodore insisted on going, but now that Edward had visited Phoebe, he changed his mind. Theodore hadn't changed at all.

Despite his grumbling, Lawton didn't dare delay and went to rearrange the schedule.

Theodore sat in his office, anxiously waiting for the rest of the afternoon. Finally, Phoebe arrived, looking very downcast.

Seeing her, Theodore felt a weight lift off his chest. He thought, last night's conversation must have helped. At least when she's upset, she comes to him instead of hiding away until she's ready to face him again.

"Am I interrupting your work by coming here suddenly?" Phoebe kept her head down, looking utterly dejected.

Theodore's heart ached. He beckoned her over. "Come here, to me."

Phoebe bit her lip and slowly walked over. Theodore, sitting in his chair, couldn't wait and grabbed her wrist, pulling her close.

He saw her red, swollen eyes, evidence of a good cry. He pulled her to stand between his legs and hugged her tightly.

"It's okay. I'm here."

Phoebe slowly bent down, resting her chin on his shoulder. Tears began to fall again. "I'm sorry. I'll cry just this once and never again."

Theodore gently patted her back, letting her sit on his lap. "It's alright. I'm glad you thought to come to me."

They were the closest people in the world, each other's support. They shared not only their joys but also their sorrows.

Phoebe wrapped her arms around his neck, sobbing.

Theodore patiently patted her back, but couldn't help his jealousy. "Crying over another man, just this once. Never again."

Phoebe laughed through her tears, lightly punching his shoulder. "I'm still upset, and you're being so petty?"

"I'm always petty when it comes to you," Theodore said confidently. He could only tolerate her crying over Edward this one time.

Phoebe wiped her tears, choking up. "I thought I was done crying, but seeing you made me want to cry again."

Theodore pursed his lips. "Why?"

Phoebe tilted her head, thinking. "I guess I feel wronged. I can be completely unguarded with you. Theodore, I've been reflecting on what you said last night. I'm learning to trust and rely on you. In this, I'm still a student. I hope you'll give me time to grow."

Theodore rubbed her head, his tone softening. "Of course. We'll grow together."

Phoebe buried her face in his neck. She didn't cry anymore, perhaps comforted by his presence. She slowly fell asleep.

Theodore heard her steady breathing and called her name softly. When she didn't respond, he smiled helplessly.

Oh well, if she can sleep, she must not be too sad anymore.

Edward left the Empire State Building and got into his car. Thinking about his conversation with Phoebe, he punched the steering wheel.

The horn blared sharply, drawing the attention of passersby.

He closed his eyes, tears streaming down. He was unwilling to accept this. He and Phoebe had grown up together. If Theodore hadn't interfered, they would have grown old together.

He opened his eyes, filled with resentment.

He wouldn't let this go. If he couldn't have her, no one else could, especially Theodore!

His phone on the console suddenly rang. Edward's eyes flashed with anger as he glanced at the caller ID. He smirked and answered, "What is it?"

Madison's cautious voice came through. "Edward, are you at work? Are you busy? I'm bored alone in the hospital."

Edward sneered. "Finnegan didn't come to keep you company?"

Madison's breath hitched. She quickly said, "Edward, what are you talking about? Finnegan and I are just colleagues. Why would he come to the hospital?"

"Really?" Edward said coldly.

Madison forced a smile. "Of course. We're just colleagues. Edward, are you upset today? Did something happen?"

Edward didn't want to argue about this. "Nothing. I'll come to the hospital later. Take care."

Madison beamed. "I'll wait for you. Come soon."

After hanging up, Edward's eyes filled with contempt. He tossed the phone into the storage compartment and leaned back in his seat.

To bring down the Reynolds family, he'd have to start with Madison.
