Chapter 6

After leaving the hospital, Phoebe sat in the passenger seat without saying a word. She was actually a very talkative person, but whenever she was with Theodore, she didn't know what to say.

Because in his eyes, whatever she said was wrong.

The phone rang, and Theodore answered it. She didn't know what the other person said, but he just responded indifferently and then hung up.

Then, Theodore stopped the car at the intersection and said coldly, "Get out. You can take a cab back yourself."

Phoebe looked at the busy overpass and then glanced down at her torn dress. "This is an overpass, and my clothes are..."

"So what?" Theodore interrupted her impatiently, his voice was so cold and heartless.

Phoebe stared at him for a few seconds, finally resigning herself to opening the door and getting out.

As soon as Phoebe closed the car door, the black Maybach sped away, quickly disappearing.

It was already very late, and it was still raining, though much lighter than before, with sparse drops hitting her face.

Phoebe wrapped herself tighter in the suit jacket, walking slowly along the greenery, with cars occasionally speeding past her.

Phoebe hadn't walked far when her phone in her bag started vibrating incessantly. She stopped and answered the call. It was Evelyn.

"Phoebe, have the test results come out?" Evelyn asked anxiously, she started complaining before Phoebe replied. "Why do you say things just to upset me? What if Theodore misunderstands?"

Phoebe wrapped herself tighter in the suit jacket and impatiently interrupted Evelyn, shouting, "Even if I get tested a thousand times, the result will be the same. I will never have my own children again."

Evelyn suddenly went silent, clearly shocked by the news. After a long pause, Evelyn spoke again, her voice trembling. "How could this happen? Didn't you get pregnant before?"

Phoebe looked at the cars speeding by in front of her, feeling a sour taste in her nose.

"I'm hanging up." Phoebe hung up the phone without any hesitation.

She stood there for a while, her phone buzzing in her bag, but she didn't want to deal with it and continued walking aimlessly.

After getting off the overpass, she found herself in the city's most luxurious commercial district. A huge LED screen on the exterior wall was playing clips from an international piano competition.

Phoebe stood in the center of the square, looking up at the woman sitting at the piano on the big screen. The woman was wearing a red evening gown, her hair up, revealing her elegant neck.

Her slender fingers danced across the piano keys, the beautiful music reverberating through the empty square. The tempo of the music grew faster, and the emotions became more intense and passionate, stirring the hearts of the listeners.

Suddenly, a familiar face appeared on the large screen.

Phoebe's heart tightened. "Vanessa Fitzroy!"

Vanessa was Theodore's first love and the campus queens of Kedora University.

After a few years, Vanessa became more charming and mature.

The piano music stopped, and the audience erupted into thunderous applause that lasted for a long time. Everyone was praising Vanessa's skill and beauty.

The camera suddenly panned to the opposite side of the stage, focusing on a tall man in the front row behind the judges' table. He was wearing a suit, his eyes focused and passionate.

He was Theodore.

The rain suddenly intensified, blurring Phoebe's vision. The cold rain completely soaked her torn dress, and she couldn't help but shiver.

As a top student at the music academy, Phoebe certainly knew that the screen was showing the international piano competition, which was held every five years in the capital of Nyxonia.

And half a month ago, Theodore had suddenly gone on a business trip to the capital of Nyxonia.

So, he had gone to see Vanessa.

Phoebe returned to her apartment, exhausted. She took a hot shower and, without even eating dinner, curled up in bed and fell into a deep sleep.

The next day, Phoebe woke up from her sleep with a frown. She was starving, her stomach almost cramping from hunger. She checked her phone for the time; it was 6:30. She instinctively wanted to wake up Theodore next to her.
But her hand met empty sheets.
She sat up abruptly and turned on the light, only to see that the bed beside her was as neat as new. It was then that she realized Theodore hadn't come back all night.

In the three years of their marriage, except for business trips, Theodore had never stayed out all night.

Phoebe sat there in a daze for a while, then she expressionlessly went to the bathroom to freshen up and then to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for herself. After eating, she walked to the office.

As soon as Phoebe arrived at the office entrance, a black Maybach stopped in front of her, and Theodore got out of the car with a blank expression.

He was still wearing the same suit from yesterday's banquet, his shirt wrinkled, and who knew where he had been all night.

Theodore's eyes were deep and captivating; just meeting his gaze could give one the illusion of being loved. So even if he wore a stern face all day, he still exuded a charming demeanor.

Theodore walked past Phoebe without even glancing at her, as if she didn't exist.
Phoebe took a deep breath and hurriedly jogged to catch up.

Inside the CEO's private elevator, Phoebe secretly glanced at Theodore's stern face and cautiously asked, "Theodore, you didn't come back last night."

"When did my schedule need to be reported to you, Ms. Ziegler?" Theodore asked coldly, his face slightly darkened.

Phoebe pressed her lips together and didn't speak anymore. She shouldn't have asked in the first place. Where Theodore went was none of her business.

Seeing her aggrieved expression only made Theodore more annoyed. His temper flared up, and he tugged at his tie, frowning. "Are you trying to play the victim here? You want people to think I'm some kind of bully?"

Phoebe inwardly sighed, aware that even her breath could set Theodore off when he was in a bad mood.

She murmured, "I didn't."

Theodore snorted coldly and waved his hand, looking at her with eyes full of irritation. "QUEEN Entertainment is short-staffed recently. I've already informed HR to transfer you there. Pack up and report there. No need to shadow me anymore. ."

Phoebe's heart jolted, and she stared at him. "You want me to go to QUEEN Entertainment?"

QUEEN Entertainment was an entertainment empire Theodore had personally built for Vanessa. After six months of planning and preparation, it was set to officially open at the end of the month.

On the way here, Phoebe had seen a lot of news about Vanessa. The news said Vanessa was about to return to the country to develop her career. Theodore sending her off to QUEEN Entertainment right now was probably his way of getting her out of the picture so he could focus on rekindling things with Vanessa.

"What, you're not happy about it?" Theodore suddenly smiled meaningfully. He leaned in, cornering Phoebe in the elevator. "Or do you want to stay by my side so I can fuck you whenever I want?"

He murmured in her ear, his words coarse and indecent.

Even though she knew Theodore was humiliating her again, and even though she disliked Theodore, hearing his seductive voice and being so close made Phoebe's heart race uncontrollably. She couldn't help but blush, turning her face away and stepping back.

"Alright, Mr. Reynolds."

Upon seeing Phoebe agree so readily, Theodore's face remained dark. He snorted coldly and strode out of the elevator.

Along the way, everyone greeted him politely.

It wasn't until Theodore walked away with a stern face that everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

Phoebe's transfer order came through quickly. Carol Sanchez, a fellow secretary, came over to help her pack and asked quietly, "Phoebe, why were you suddenly transferred downstairs? Did you offend Mr. Reynolds?"

Carol was one of the few who knew about Phoebe and Theodore's true relationship. By day, Phoebe was Theodore's chief secretary; by night, she was his bedmate.

Now, Theodore was sending Phoebe to QUEEN Entertainment, a company custom-made for Vanessa, where all the focus would be on her.
