Chapter 893 I Only Spoil You
Madison had no clue she was just a pawn in Edward's scheme against Theodore. After hanging up the phone, she asked the nurse to help her get up.
She couldn't let Edward see her looking a mess. She needed to wash her face, put on some makeup, and look amazing when he arrived.
The nurse helped her to the bathroom and watched her struggle to wash her face. "Ms. Reynolds, you really should stay in bed. This is too much strain on your neck."
Madison snapped, "Stop nagging. I know what I'm doing. Just leave."
The nurse left, and Madison leaned over the sink to wash her face.
Her neck was still in a brace, and the strain made it ache. She ignored the pain, finished washing her face, and went to apply makeup.
After putting on her makeup, she felt dizzy and nauseous. She lay back on her pillow, closing her eyes to wait for Edward.
But the nausea got worse, and soon she felt like she was going to throw up. She quickly pressed the call button, and the nurse rushed in.
"What's wrong, Ms. Reynolds?"
"I think I'm going to..." Before she could finish, she vomited all over the nurse, who turned green with disgust.
"Ms. Reynolds, I told you to stay in bed, but you wouldn't listen," the nurse said, exasperated.
Madison wanted to retort, but she threw up again as soon as she opened her mouth.
The nurse, looking grim, pressed the call button for the doctor and other nurses. After examining Madison, they determined that she had overstrained her neck, compressing a nerve, and needed a CT scan.
After all the commotion, Madison was wheeled back to her room, her makeup smeared and looking worse than before.
Edward arrived while she was still dizzy in bed. He stayed only a few minutes before leaving.
As he walked out, he bumped into Finnegan, who had come to visit. Finnegan knew Edward was the man Madison liked and couldn't help but stop.
Sizing up Edward, Finnegan felt inferior to Edward's natural air of nobility. "Mr. Vanderbilt, are you here to see Madison too?"
Edward ignored Finnegan's provocation and headed straight for the elevator.
Feeling awkward, Finnegan glared at Edward's back. Just because he came from a better family, what was there to be so smug about?
With a disdainful laugh, Finnegan turned and entered the room.
Phoebe had slept deeply. When she opened her eyes, the room was dim, and a faint fragrance lingered in the air. She knew she was in Theodore's private room.
Her eyes were swollen and sore. She lay in bed for a while before sitting up. She had cried a lot today, and her vision was blurry. She sat in the darkness for a moment.
There was a noise at the door, and the next second, it opened. Theodore saw her sitting by the bed and turned on the light.
Phoebe winced at the bright light and raised her hand to shield her eyes. Theodore walked in and stood in front of her. "Awake now? Are you hungry?"
His question made her realize how empty her stomach felt. She nodded honestly, "Yeah, I'm starving."
"Go wash your face, and we'll go eat." Theodore bent down to help her up and nudged her toward the bathroom.
Phoebe took a few steps, then turned and hugged his arm, pouting. "I don't want to move. Can you wash my face for me?"
Theodore raised an eyebrow. They had known each other for over seven years and shared countless nights, but she rarely acted so spoiled.
His heart melted, and he scooped her up, striding into the bathroom. "What's gotten into you today?"
Phoebe hooked her arms around his neck. "When am I not good?"
Theodore rubbed his chin against her forehead, his stubble prickling her skin. She shrank back, laughing softly, "That tickles."
Her breath on his neck sent a shiver down his spine, and he nearly stumbled.
Phoebe tightened her grip on him, "Are you sure you can carry me? Maybe you should put me down."
Theodore looked down at her, his eyes burning with intensity. Phoebe felt a chill and lowered her gaze, not daring to speak.
Theodore carried her into the bathroom and set her on the closed toilet lid. He wet a tissue and gently wiped her face.
Her eyelids were swollen and bright red, making her look pitiful.
"Just this once, I'll let you cry for another man. If you do it again, I won't forgive you," he said harshly, but his touch was tender.
Phoebe closed her eyes obediently, "I won't do anything to upset you again."
Theodore sighed.
After washing her face, Theodore carried her out. As she bent to put on her shoes, he knelt in front of her, holding her high heels.
He grasped her ankle and picked up a shoe, ready to slip it on. Phoebe pulled her foot back, embarrassed, "I can do it myself."
Theodore said nothing but was firm in his actions. Phoebe couldn't pull her foot away and watched as he put her shoes on.
She said awkwardly, "Theodore, you're spoiling me so much. Did you spoil Vanessa like this, too?"
Realizing her words sounded jealous, Phoebe quickly tried to backtrack, "I was just saying..."
"No," Theodore replied quickly, glancing at her. "I've never spoiled anyone like this except you."
Phoebe was stunned, a wave of joy spreading through her. It was a simple statement, but it felt like sweet honey.
She smiled, "Okay, I'll treat you even better from now on."
Theodore finished putting on her shoes and saw her staring at him, smiling foolishly. He couldn't help but lean in and kiss her lips.
Phoebe was taken aback, her cheeks flushing. She quickly stood up, "Let's go. I'm hungry. Let's go eat."
She hurried out of the room, and Theodore chuckled, washing his hands before following her.
His phone vibrated on the desk. Phoebe picked it up and saw it was his grandmother. She handed it to Theodore, "It's your grandma."
Theodore answered the call, and Sarah's furious voice came through, "Theodore, where are you? Get to the hospital right now."
"I'm at the office, Grandma. What's wrong?"
Sarah was livid, "Don't ask what's wrong. Just get to the hospital. Do you all think I'm dead because I'm not at home?"
Her words were harsh, and Theodore's face darkened, "No one thinks you're dead, and you shouldn't curse yourself like that."
He hung up the phone.
Phoebe looked at Theodore anxiously, "What's wrong? Did Grandma find out we're back together?"
Theodore's lips tightened as he looked at Phoebe, thinking that his grandmother probably knew not only about their reconciliation but also about Hubert, Boris, and Noomi.
