Chapter 895 Falling in Love

Phoebe froze for a moment, looking at Evelyn like she was a thief, whispering so no one else could hear. Before Phoebe could respond, Evelyn kept going:

"Honestly, she's so young, it's not crazy for her to date. If she decides to get married, Ethan can stay with us, and we won't stop her from finding happiness. But I still feel uneasy."

Phoebe asked, "Why do you think she's dating?"

Evelyn shot her a look, "I have eyes, don't I?"

"What did you see?" Phoebe asked casually, though she was pretty nervous. Did her mom see Donovan alive? That couldn't be right. If she had seen Donovan, she wouldn't be acting so secretive.

Evelyn said, "I saw a hickey on her neck a few days ago. Last night, when she came home, I noticed her lip was bruised, clearly bitten. I asked her about it, but she said she bumped into a wall. Does she think I don't watch TV?"

Phoebe was speechless.

The evidence was undeniable. No wonder Evelyn suspected Ruby was dating. Donovan should be more careful and avoid leaving so many marks.

"Mom, Ruby isn't like that. If she were dating, she'd tell us. You shouldn't jump to conclusions."

Evelyn glared, "How am I jumping to conclusions? Her lip was bitten like that, and she doesn't even act modestly. With so many eyes in this house, what will people think of her?"

"Mom, Ruby's dating is her own business. Okay, when she gets back, I'll ask her. You don't need to worry." Phoebe managed to calm Evelyn down after much persuasion.

Once Evelyn left, Phoebe picked up her phone and checked it. No missed calls, no unread messages. She opened Theodore's WhatsApp chat.

After hesitating for a while, she didn't type a message. Just as she was about to put her phone down, she heard a new message notification.

She looked down and saw a new voice message in the chat. She played it and held it to her ear.

Theodore's voice was low and gentle, "Phoebe, I'm on my way to the airport now. I have a last-minute business trip. I'll be back in two or three days."

Phoebe listened to the voice message several times, not detecting any other emotions. She replied with an "Okay," and Theodore didn't send any more messages.

She felt empty inside. Before they parted, Theodore hadn't mentioned a business trip. Why did he suddenly have to go after meeting Sarah?

Did Sarah say something to him?

Phoebe couldn't help but overthink, staring at the chat for a long time until the door opened. She looked up to see Noomi running over, sweating profusely, and she threw herself into Phoebe's arms.

Phoebe quickly put her phone aside and hugged Noomi to prevent her from bumping into her. "Noomi, why aren't you playing downstairs?"

"Mommy, play with me," Noomi pleaded, looking up with her little face.

Phoebe took a tissue and wiped the sweat from Noomi's forehead and nose. "Okay, I'll come down and play with you."

Noomi grabbed her hand and pulled her towards the door. Phoebe had no choice but to pick up her phone and put it in her pocket, following Noomi downstairs.

At the hospital, Theodore had just left when Madison slipped into Sarah's room, seeing Sarah visibly upset. She quickly tried to comfort her.

"Grandma, what did Theodore say to make you so angry?"

Sarah glanced at her and then snorted coldly, "Madison, don't think I don't know what you're up to. No matter how unreasonable Theodore is, he's still the heir to the Reynolds family."

Madison lowered her eyes and smiled apologetically, "You're right, Grandma. Theodore is the heir to the Reynolds family. That's why we can't let him be wronged, right?"

Their positions aligned, putting them on the same side. Sarah temporarily set aside her prejudice against Madison and said, "If he felt wronged, he wouldn't be rushing to get involved with Phoebe."

Madison said, "Grandma, are you just going to watch Theodore bring those three kids into the house? Imagine how many people will gossip about the Reynolds family."

Sarah valued her reputation highly. The thought of Theodore and Phoebe reconciling, bringing Hubert, Boris, and Noomi into the Reynolds Villa, was something she couldn't accept.

"Do your parents know about this?"

Madison nodded vigorously, "Yes, they do. The day I fell down the stairs, Theodore brought Hubert, Boris, and Noomi home. They were so happy."

"Unbelievable!" Sarah slammed the table. "Other people's kids, what are they happy about? Madison, you need to find out who Phoebe had those kids with."

Madison thought of the person Sandra had given her earlier and said hesitantly, "Grandma, it's been three years. How can we find out now?"

Sarah said, "If you can't find out, isn't there that Facebook news headline thing? Put Phoebe and Hubert, Boris, and Noomi on the news, and someone will come forward."

Madison wanted to, but said, "But if things get out of hand, Theodore will come after me. Grandma, I can't do this."

"You can't do this, you can't do that. What can you do? What use are you to me?" Sarah said angrily.

Madison lowered her head. "Grandma, I'll send someone to investigate first. If it doesn't work, we'll put Phoebe and the kids on the news. How about that?"

Sarah knew this matter couldn't be rushed. She waved her hand, "Just go ahead and do it. If anything happens, I'll take responsibility."

"Yes, Grandma."

After Madison left, Riley came in to help Sarah lie down. She looked at Sarah and cautiously said, "Mrs. Reynolds, I'm not sure if I should say this."

Sarah glanced at her indifferently, "You want to speak up for Phoebe?"

Riley said, "I've seen Hubert, Boris, and Noomi. They're very charming. Even Mr. Reynolds, with his cold personality, played with them all afternoon. Maybe you should set aside your prejudice and meet them first?"

"No matter how charming they are, they're not Reynolds family children," Sarah said stubbornly.

Riley sighed, "It's truly a shame. But as long as Phoebe can have more children, there will eventually be Reynolds family kids. Don't you think?"

"I don't see it that way. Even if she has ten or eight kids for the Reynolds family, Hubert, Boris, and Noomi will never be the Reynolds family children. Theodore can find another woman. Why does he have to reconcile with her and bring shame to the Reynolds family?" Sarah said.

Riley realized that Sarah couldn't accept Phoebe having children with someone else. Persuading her further would be futile, so she dropped the topic.

"I'll get some water for you to wash your face."

Sarah sat on the bed, sulking. This was Phoebe's fault, but it seemed like she was being deliberately difficult.

If Phoebe had kept her private life in check after the divorce and not had children with someone else, would she have opposed her reconciling with Theodore?
