Chapter 918 You Have No Heart

The next second, a strong hand yanked her back, and she tumbled onto Theodore.

In a dizzying whirl, she found herself pinned under him on the bed.

"Hurt!" Phoebe winced.

Once she recovered, she needed to hit the gym.

Theodore propped himself up on his hands, looking down at her. "Are you running? I thought you were too tired to get out of bed after last night. Guess I didn't wear you out enough?"

Phoebe was helpless.

'Give me a break. If that wasn't tiring, what is?' She thought to herself.

She glared at him, annoyed. "Don't act all innocent. Get off me, I need to get up."

Theodore didn't budge. He supported himself with one hand while the other reached for her waist, gently massaging it. "Sore?"

Phoebe tensed up and didn't dare to meet his gaze.

She looked away, her eyes landing on the tattoo on his neck.

She remembered that ridiculous dream from before and couldn't help but touch the bite mark on his collarbone. "Why do you have a bite mark tattooed here?"

He usually wore shirts that covered his collarbone, so not many people knew about the tattoo.

But why?

Did it have some special meaning?

Why would someone from a prestigious family like his get a tattoo, something so out of character?

Theodore looked down. From his angle, he couldn't see the tattoo, so all he saw was Phoebe's hand.

He frowned. "You don't remember?"

Phoebe was puzzled. "Remember what?"

Theodore stared at her.

In the dim room, they locked eyes for a few seconds before he suddenly got up, grabbed his pajamas, and put them on.

His demeanor turned cold.

He stood up, his back to Phoebe, and said in a low voice, "It's better if you don't remember. You never had a heart anyway."

With that, he grabbed his clothes and left the room.

Phoebe lay on the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling, wondering if Theodore was going through a midlife crisis. Why was he so moody?

She lay there for a while, almost falling asleep, when she heard Hubert, Boris, and Noomi talking outside the door. She jolted awake and struggled to sit up.

The soreness in her bones made her want to lie back down, but her motherly duties forced her to get up.

She fumbled out of bed, grabbed her dress to cover herself, and walked to the door, just in time to hear Pamela coaxing Hubert, Boris, and Noomi downstairs.

Phoebe breathed a sigh of relief, opened the door, and quickly slipped back into her room.

She took another shower, the water stinging the bite mark on her neck.

By the time she finished, she felt like the pain had drained away.

She got dressed, not bothering with a turtleneck to cover the mark.

After all, the person she most wanted to hide it from already knew, and it had only made things worse.

When she walked out of the room, she saw Theodore in a dark gray cashmere sweater over a white shirt, looking younger and more handsome.

He stared at her. "Are you going to the office today?"

"Yeah, there's a lot to do. I need to network to secure next year's resources, especially some big endorsement deals." Phoebe looked resigned.

Her company was small, and they had to actively seek out opportunities.

Unlike Theodore, the richest man in Kedora, who had everyone coming to him.

He couldn't understand her struggles.

"The mark on your neck," Theodore's eyes zeroed in on the bloody bite mark. "Put some ointment on it before you head out."

Phoebe couldn't help but feel a twinge of resentment. "I don't know who was so ruthless last night, adding injury to injury."

"I was reminding you. If anyone else ever leaves a mark on you, I'll kill them." Theodore's eyes were fierce, not just a warning.

Phoebe murmured, "So harsh!"

Seeing her pout, Theodore softened.

He rubbed his head and said, "Let's go eat. I'll drive you to the office later."

During breakfast, the atmosphere was strange.

Boris noticed the bite mark on Phoebe's neck. "Mom, did a dog bite you?"

Phoebe raised her hand, not daring to touch her neck. She glanced at Theodore and said, "Yes, a dog bit me."

"Poor Mom, does it hurt? Let me blow on it." Noomi pouted and leaned in to blow on Phoebe's neck.

Phoebe smiled, feeling the cool breeze on her neck. The pain seemed to lessen. "Noomi is so sweet."

Seeing Noomi praised, Hubert and Boris didn't want to be left out and also blew on Phoebe's neck.

After all the attention, Phoebe was so tired she could barely sit up straight.

Theodore helped her to a seat.

He handed her a sandwich. "Eat up before it gets cold."

Phoebe glared at him, then silently ate her food.

Evelyn watched them, sensing their relationship had grown closer. She said, "Phoebe, what was with the headlines last night? How did you get involved with Patrick?"

Phoebe instinctively looked at Theodore, thinking Evelyn shouldn't have brought this up. "We ran into each other at a party. You don't know anything, so don't jump to conclusions."

Evelyn hesitated. "You're already in a relationship. You should stay away from scandals. What will people think if you're seen with Evan one day and Patrick the next?"

"Reporters like to make things up. You know that. And in this industry, some things are unavoidable. The innocent will remain innocent." Phoebe said.

Evelyn was displeased. "You could avoid single young men and reduce the gossip."

Phoebe closed her eyes, seeing Hubert, Boris, and Noomi watching them. She softened her tone. "Let's drop it. It's pointless to argue."

Evelyn was angry. "I'm just looking out for you."

"Mom, I'm almost thirty. I'm an adult. I know what I'm doing." Phoebe suddenly put down her fork. "I'm full. I'm going to the office."

Evelyn glared at her. "I say a few words, and you get all huffy. I can't control you anymore. Do whatever you want. Someone else will deal with you."

Phoebe was helpless.

She stood at the dining room door for a few seconds, then quickly walked out.

Hubert, Boris, and Noomi jumped down from their chairs and followed her.

At the entrance, Phoebe changed her shoes, seeing Hubert, Boris, and Noomi watching her with worried faces.

Noomi asked cautiously, "Mom, are you sad?"

Phoebe forced a smile, bending down to kiss each of their foreheads. "I'm not sad. Be good and listen to Grandma, okay?"

"Okay, we'll be good. Don't worry about us." Boris said quickly.

Phoebe smiled, then looked up to see Theodore coming from the dining room. "I called Guadalupe to pick me up. You don't need to drive me. It's too out of the way."
