Chapter 904 Meeting You Is My Luck

Phoebe could relate to that mother. Her daily life revolved around her kid and husband. Even though she didn't have to worry about food or clothes, she was slowly losing herself.

Once you start losing yourself, it's easy to fall into self-pity.

That's why Phoebe insisted on going back to work after her miscarriage. She didn't want her world to shrink to just her home.

She smiled and said, "I'm lucky to have someone who doesn't hold me back, giving me the chance to find my self-worth."

Theodore looked surprised. "You're getting pretty good at this."

Phoebe's eyes sparkled with her smile. "Just speaking the truth."

"Yeah, I'm listening. Keep the compliments coming. Let's see how far you can go," Theodore said, looking down at her.

He had always thought Phoebe was amazing. He could have made her a stay-at-home mom, keeping her in his world, making her revolve around him.

But he couldn't stand to see her wither away, turning into a resentful woman.

She deserved a bigger world.

Phoebe wrapped her arms around his waist. "Do I even need to praise you? Just standing here, you're the epitome of excellence."

Theodore pulled her into his arms, watching the kids go up and down the slide. The kid from the other day was nowhere to be seen, but soon they overheard people talking nearby.

Turns out Dax was under investigation for taking bribes. Even the house in Lakeview Estates was a bribe. He couldn't escape criminal charges and had to return all the bribes he had taken. The investigation team had sealed the villa a few days ago, and the family had moved out.

Phoebe turned to Theodore and whispered, "Did you have something to do with this?"

Theodore raised an eyebrow. "What?"

"Dax's situation," Phoebe said.

Theodore pulled her closer, whispering in her ear, "Do I look like I have that much free time?"

Phoebe was speechless.

Theodore didn't seem like someone with that much free time, but he could take down Dax if he wanted to.

After all, people who abuse their power for bribery deserve to be punished.

Thinking about that kid, Phoebe sighed. Growing up in such a family without proper guidance, he was bound to cause trouble in the future.

Theodore noticed her thoughtful expression and pulled her closer. "What's on your mind?"

Phoebe shook her head. "Weren't you going to take them for a walk? Let's go. I'll call them over."

Phoebe looked around, seeing no one paying attention to them. She stood on her tiptoes and lightly kissed his lips. "Mr. Reynolds, you're so handsome. I'm proud of you."

Theodore was speechless.

He hadn't expected Phoebe to slip away from his arms like a slippery eel. He watched her graceful figure walk away, coughed lightly, and followed her.

Their relationship was getting better, but they had no idea that things were turning upside down at home.

Evelyn hadn't gone out with them today. She was glued to a TV show at home. When Delilah called, she was passionately cursing the bad guy in the show with Pamela.

Pamela handed her the phone. "It's Mrs. Vanderbilt."

Evelyn took the phone. "Mrs. Vanderbilt, why are you calling so late? Is something wrong?"

Mrs. Vanderbilt hesitated. "Evelyn, I heard something. I'm not sure if you've heard..."

"This guy is unbelievable! He has a mistress and still comes home to hit his wife. Why keep such a jerk around?" Evelyn was hitting the couch in frustration, feeling sorry for the show's heroine.

Delilah's face darkened. "Evelyn, did you hear what I said? Donovan is still alive."

Evelyn was too focused on the TV to hear clearly. "What did you say about Donovan? Tomorrow is his memorial. We're going to the cemetery. Do you want to come with us?"

Delilah was exasperated. "I said Donovan is still alive. Did you hear me? Your son is alive. What memorial? How morbid!"

This time, Evelyn heard clearly. She froze, her fingers slipping from her palm and hitting her foot, snapping her back to reality.

She quickly picked up the phone, her voice trembling. "What did you say? Who's still alive?"

Delilah rolled her eyes. "Your Donovan is still alive. He caused a scene at the Adams family recently. Didn't Ruby tell you?"

At that moment, the door opened, and Ruby walked in. Evelyn turned stiffly, hearing her neck crack.

Ruby took a step back, startled. "Mom, what's wrong?"

Evelyn hung up the phone, staring at Ruby. Lately, Ruby had been coming home late with a hickey on her neck and bitten lips.

Evelyn thought she was dating and didn't want to ask directly.

Now, thinking back, could it be that Donovan was alive?

"Ruby, come here. I need to ask you something." Evelyn's tone was serious, very serious. Ruby walked over nervously, not even changing her shoes.

"Mom, what's going on?" she asked uneasily.

Evelyn stood up, slowly walked to her, and grabbed her arm. "Is Donovan still alive?"

Ruby's pupils shrank. "Mom..."

"Is he?" Evelyn was furious. Everyone knew Donovan was alive, but she, his mother, was the last to know.

Ruby trembled, lowering her eyes. "Yes, he's alive. I'm sorry, Mom. I shouldn't have kept it from you, but..."

"Where is he? Take me to him right now," Evelyn demanded.

"Mom..." Ruby hesitated. Donovan didn't know anything yet. He needed to be prepared, or else...

Evelyn dragged her towards the door. "You all kept this from me. Ruby, if you still want to call me Mom, take me to him."

Ruby closed her eyes, knowing Evelyn wouldn't stop until she saw Donovan. She reluctantly followed her out.

"Mom, don't get upset. I'll take you to him now." She didn't have time to warn Donovan, so she signaled Pamela to inform Phoebe.

Pamela watched Evelyn drag Ruby out of the villa and quickly called Phoebe. "Phoebe, something's happened. Something big. You need to come home with the kids right away."
