Chapter 936 Madison Sows Discord
Phoebe shot him a glare, watching as he uncomfortably furrowed his brow and placed a hand over his stomach, gently rubbing it.
"How much did you drink? Why's your stomach hurting?"
Theodore just wanted some sympathy from her.
Besides the champagne, he hadn't drunk anything else. He hinted, "Maybe I'm just hungry."
Phoebe heard him say he was hungry and noticed a restaurant by the roadside.
She quickly told Jack to pull over. "The restaurant's still open. Let's grab a bite before heading back. Jack, you should join us, too."
Jack felt a bit awkward and declined, "Ms. Ziegler, I've already had dinner. You and Mr. Reynolds go ahead. I'll park the car and wait for your call to pick you up when you're done."
Phoebe didn't insist and got out of the car with Theodore.
Both of them were dressed in formal attire.
When they entered the restaurant, the staff didn't seem surprised and quickly led them to a private room.
The private room was on the second floor.
They walked up a bamboo staircase, and the restaurant's interior had a charming ambiance.
Even drinking a glass of plain water here would feel romantic.
Once inside the private room, they ordered a bowl of porridge and two desserts.
The waiter promptly served the dishes and politely closed the door as he left.
Phoebe served Theodore a bowl of porridge and then half a bowl for herself, keeping him company so he wouldn't lose his appetite eating alone.
"You mentioned earlier that you almost lost your dignity today. What happened?" Phoebe was more curious than worried, seeing as Theodore was sitting safely in front of her.
Theodore leisurely sipped his porridge and recounted the evening's events as if they were amusing anecdotes.
Phoebe listened and frowned, "Ms. Ramirez doesn't give up, does she?"
She genuinely couldn't understand Sandra's mindset.
As the daughter of the prestigious Ramirez family, she could have any man she wanted.
Yet, she chose to degrade herself and cling to Theodore. It was baffling.
Theodore looked at her, "Jealous?"
"Of course. My man is constantly being coveted by others. They can't take you by force, so they resort to underhanded tactics. It's quite frustrating," Phoebe said, resting her chin on her hand, speaking with genuine emotion.
There used to be Vanessa, and now that Vanessa had no chance with Theodore, Sandra had come along.
Thinking about it, it was all because he was too good-looking.
Theodore was amused by her words, a smile playing in his eyes. "Your man?"
"Yeah, aren't you mine?" Phoebe said with a hint of coquettishness.
She was wearing a light beige dress, not a strapless or off-the-shoulder style, but one with a Peter Pan collar and puff sleeves.
On anyone else, it might have made their shoulders look broad or their upper body bulky, but on Phoebe, it made her look like a lively, beautiful fairy.
Her slight tilt of the head made Theodore's heart race, stirring his emotions.
He leaned in, his lips almost touching hers, and whispered, "I'm yours. Are you mine?"
His tone was even more seductive and ambiguous than Phoebe's, immediately shifting the dynamic between them.
Theodore exuded a strong sense of dominance.
Sometimes, subtle flirting was even more tantalizing.
Phoebe pouted, trying to kiss him, but Theodore leaned back, avoiding her kiss. "Don't be perfunctory."
Phoebe's kiss missed its mark, and she pouted in dissatisfaction, her voice soft, "I'm not being perfunctory. You are mine."
"If I'm yours, why'd you leave me?" Theodore hinted at settling old scores.
Phoebe tilted her head, "With such a good vibe, you sure you wanna bring up old grievances?"
Theodore tapped her nose lightly. No matter how unresolved his feelings were, she was right there in front of him, completely his.
"Nah, let's eat quickly and head home," Theodore said, lowering his head to eat.
Although the topic was dropped, Phoebe could sense his unhappiness.
She lowered her eyes, sighing silently.
She knew what was bothering him, but there was nothing they could do but accept it.
Sandra's scandalous night with three men had spread like wildfire, making her the laughingstock of the town.
She was so furious that she locked herself in her room for days, refusing to open the door for anyone.
"It's all Phoebe's fault, and Theodore's! If it weren't for them, I wouldn't be so miserable!" Sandra seethed at Tatum.
Tatum looked at her twisted face, hesitating, "Eat something first. Your dad has grounded you. Reflect on your actions and don't make him angry, or he'll send you abroad."
"Let him send me! Whenever he's unhappy, he just ships me off like trash. I don't care!" Sandra fumed.
Tatum disapproved, "Don't say that. Your dad and I love you. No one treats you like trash."
Sandra grew angrier, "I won't let them get away with this, Mom. Even if I can't have Theodore, I won't let anyone else have him."
Tatum frowned, "Sandra, you're being too extreme. Maybe it's good if your dad sends you abroad. Look at how obsessed you've become with Theodore."
"I'm obsessed because of you! If you hadn't messed things up, I wouldn't be a laughingstock!" Sandra lashed out.
Tatum was hurt by her words, "You need to calm down. If you hadn't insisted on scheming against Theodore, would he have retaliated?"
Sandra laughed and cried hysterically, "I don't care! Now that my reputation is ruined, you can't just ignore it."
Tatum, exasperated, rubbed her temples, "Reflect on your actions. If you keep causing trouble, your dad will send you abroad."
With that, Tatum turned and left.
Sandra sat on the bed, her face full of resentment.
The next day, Phoebe arrived at the office. Lori quickly approached, taking her bag and whispering, "Ms. Ziegler, Ms. Reynolds is here again. She's in the meeting room."
Phoebe frowned.
Hadn't Madison fallen down the stairs? How was she out of the hospital so soon?
It seemed like she was as resilient as a cockroach.
"Call me for the meeting in ten minutes."
"Got it."
Phoebe went to the meeting room and saw Madison sitting with her legs crossed, looking quite relaxed.
She walked in, "Ms. Reynolds, what brings you here?"
Madison tilted her chin up, scrutinizing Phoebe, "I've always wondered why such an ordinary woman like you attracts so many men."
Phoebe heard the insult and smiled, "I've always been curious, Ms. Reynolds, what else can you do besides spout nonsense all day?"
Madison didn't get angry. She knew she couldn't win a verbal spar with Phoebe.
She leaned back in her chair. "Did you hear about the big scandal at the Ramirez family's industry summit last night? Theodore is ruthless. Sandra was with him for three years, and he just threw her to other men without a second thought."
Phoebe frowned. "What are you trying to say?"
Madison cupped her face with her hands, "I'm just warning you, Phoebe. Theodore holds grudges. He's being lenient with you now, but who knows what he's planning to make you suffer later."
