Chapter 945 The Belated Truth
Carol led Xyla to a cozy sitting room.
She'd been eyeing the kid in Xyla's arms since they got in the elevator, and no matter how she looked at him, the kid didn't look anything like Theodore.
"Please, have a seat. Mr. Reynolds is in a meeting," Carol said, trying to keep it professional.
Xyla gave a slight nod, her expression cool and aloof. "That's fine, I'll wait. You can go back to work, don't worry about us."
Carol turned and left, closing the door behind her.
Her phone buzzed in her pocket; it was a private group chat with the staff on this floor.
Everyone was curious about who Xyla was.
In all these years, it was the first time they'd seen a woman bring a child to see Theodore.
Carol didn't respond.
The situation was unclear, and she was always careful not to speak out of turn.
She put her phone on silent and returned to the secretary's office.
Not long after, the elevator doors opened, and Theodore walked out, followed by Lawton.
Carol quickly stood up and approached Theodore.
"Mr. Reynolds, there's a woman with a child here to see you."
Theodore frowned. "What's this about?"
Carol thought to herself, I wish I knew, but she kept a serious expression. "She said she has something to tell you about the child. I didn't want to make a decision, so I let her wait in the small sitting room."
Theodore turned to Lawton and said, "Follow up on the projects we discussed in the meeting. Make sure they get the proposals to me quickly."
"Yes, sir."
Lawton responded and watched as Theodore headed to the small sitting room.
He lowered his voice and asked Carol, "What's going on?"
"I don't know. Do you think it could be one of Mr. Reynolds' affairs?" Carol whispered back.
Lawton shook his head. "No way. Ms. Ramirez has been all over Mr. Reynolds for the past three years, and she hasn't gotten pregnant. How could anyone else?"
Carol nodded in agreement. "You're right, that makes sense."
Theodore pushed open the glass door of the small sitting room and saw Xyla and her son, Dane.
His brows furrowed. "What are you doing here?"
Xyla stood up, looking at Theodore, who was now even more distinguished and elegant in his suit than he had been last night by the playground slide, like a king on his throne.
"Mr. Reynolds, there's something you need to know," Xyla said.
Theodore had no interest in talking to her and was about to call for someone when Xyla's urgent voice stopped him. "Phoebe lied to you."
Theodore paused and turned back, glaring at her coldly. "If you dare slander her in front of me, you'll regret it."
Xyla clenched her fists, staring at Theodore with a fearless expression. "Listen to me, and you'll know if I'm lying."
Theodore scoffed. "It seems you've become too bold. Lawton,"
Lawton heard Theodore's low call and started towards the small sitting room.
Before he could get close, he heard Xyla say, "Phoebe isn't a good person. Three years ago, she was a secretary at Apex Global Enterprises and attended a banquet with Raphael. Do you know what Raphael does at the company? He arranges for attractive secretaries to sleep with clients."
Lawton wished he were deaf. Was this something he should be hearing?
Theodore's expression was terrifyingly dark. "So what?"
Xyla was taken aback.
She never expected Theodore to react this way.
With his wealth and power, how could he tolerate his woman cheating?
"I overheard Phoebe talking with others. I know the birthdates of Hubert, Boris, and Noomi. They match the time she attended that banquet with Raphael. Mr. Reynolds, if you didn't know her back then, Hubert, Boris, and Noomi aren't your children," Xyla declared.
She was blinded by the luxury around her, determined to ruin Phoebe. Why should Phoebe, who took the same path, have more than her in both status and wealth?
Theodore asked, "Are you done?"
Xyla couldn't read any emotion from his face. She hesitated for a few seconds. "Mr. Reynolds, you can have any woman you want. Why tolerate Phoebe's infidelity?"
"Lawton, throw her out."
Xyla was shocked. Seeing Theodore's livid face, she laughed maniacally. "You do care, don't you? No man can tolerate his woman cheating."
Lawton, hearing her rant, quickly stepped into the small sitting room to drag Xyla out.
Xyla resisted, not letting him get close.
"Mr. Reynolds, you don't believe me, do you? I have proof. That night, she and Raphael went to the Azure Palace Hotel for an industry summit. If you don't believe me, you can ask Raphael," Xyla screamed hysterically, completely unhinged.
Lawton grabbed her wrist and started dragging her out.
Dane, already terrified and crying, thought Lawton was hurting his mom. He rushed over, kicking and hitting Lawton.
"Let go of my mom! Let go of my mom!"
"Wait." Amid the chaos, Theodore's voice cut through.
Lawton paused and released Xyla's wrist.
Theodore stared at Xyla. "Which hotel did you say?"
Xyla, thinking Theodore finally believed her, smugly replied, "Azure Palace Hotel. I heard Raphael had her seduce a big client, Edward. You can check."
Theodore had heard the name Azure Palace Hotel too often recently.
Edward had unilaterally acquired the hotel, ignoring the board.
At the time, Theodore didn't understand Edward's actions, but now it made sense.
He signaled to Lawton and turned to leave.
Behind him, Xyla's hysterical screams quickly faded.
Lawton hurried into the CEO's office, finding Theodore smoking behind his desk. "Mr. Reynolds, she's been thrown out."
"Good. Lawton, why do you think Edward went to such lengths to acquire Azure Palace Hotel?" Theodore's eyes were deep in thought.
Lawton was stunned. "What?"
Theodore squinted, the smoke swirling around him making him look cunning. "This is getting interesting. Lawton, do you remember how Sandra got involved with me?"
Lawton nodded vigorously. "Of course. That night, you went to Azure Palace Hotel for a banquet, got drunk, and spent the night with Ms. Ramirez."
"No, I now think it wasn't her that night. It was someone else," Theodore said calmly. "That also explains why Edward acquired Azure Palace Hotel."
Lawton's thoughts clicked into place. His eyes lit up as he stared at Theodore. "Mr. Reynolds, I have an idea, but I need to confirm it. Wait for me, I'll check right away."
Without waiting for Theodore's response, he rushed out.
Theodore exhaled a cloud of smoke, the white mist dispersing before him.
He narrowed his eyes, as if glimpsing the truth that was about to unfold.
