Chapter 926 The Scam

Sarah scoffed, "I don't like what you're saying. Can anyone look like Theodore? What's next, are you gonna say Hubert, Boris, and Noomi are Theodore's kids?"

Taylor, distracted, accidentally nicked her finger with the sharp fruit knife.

Blood immediately started to flow, and Riley gasped, "Did you cut yourself? Quick, use a tissue to press on it."

Riley hurriedly handed a tissue to Taylor, who put down the apple and pressed the tissue to her cut, heading to the bathroom to rinse it under the faucet.

Sarah grumbled from behind, "You can't even peel an apple properly. What can I expect from you?"

Riley wanted to follow Taylor, but Sarah stopped her, asking her to peel an apple for her instead.

Riley threw away the blood-stained apple, cleaned the knife, and washed a new apple to peel.

Taylor's cut wasn't deep, and it stopped bleeding quickly.

She returned to the room and was about to speak when there was a knock on the door.

Sandra walked in, holding a bouquet of red carnations and carrying some imported fruit. "Grandma, you look great today."

"Sandra, you're here! Come over. What have you been up to lately? Why haven't you visited me?" Sarah waved her over. "You didn't have to bring anything."

"The hospital can be dull. Some flowers can brighten up the room and lift your spirits." Sandra placed the fruit on the table and handed the flowers to Sarah. "Do you like them, Grandma?"

Sarah beamed, "Of course, I love them."

Sandra smiled softly and greeted Taylor, "Mrs. Reynolds, I didn't know you were here. I would have brought another bouquet."

Taylor didn't particularly like Sandra.

Compared to Bianca, Sandra fell short.

She forced a polite smile, "It's fine. I'm not really into flowers."

"Phoebe used to bring you flowers, and you were happy then," Sarah interjected, then turned to Sandra, "Don't mind her. She's just jealous."

Sandra glanced at Taylor and said quietly, "I didn't think it through. Mrs. Reynolds, I'll go get another bouquet."

Taylor snapped, "No need. I'm leaving soon anyway. Mom, the doctor said you need more rest. It's time for your nap. Ms. Ramirez, let's go so we don't disturb her."

Sandra looked at Sarah, wanting to say more, but Taylor eagerly pulled her out of the room.

Once the door closed, Taylor let go of her hand.

She walked towards the elevator.

Sandra watched her, sensing Taylor's hostility.

She quickly caught up, "Mrs. Reynolds, Grandma is lonely in the hospital. I can visit her often."

"She has a heart condition. The doctor advised her to rest. She doesn't need outside drama disturbing her peace," Taylor said pointedly.

Sarah wasn't always up to date with the latest news. Without someone telling her, she wouldn't know about Phoebe making headlines.

Taylor had been puzzled before, but seeing Sandra at the hospital and Sarah's evasive comments, she figured it out.

Sandra's expression darkened. "I know you don't like me, Mrs. Reynolds. I want to know why."

Taylor stopped and looked at her. "Ms. Ramirez, you're not money. You don't need everyone to like you."

Sandra stubbornly replied, "I think I'm better than Phoebe in every way—family background, education. Plus, I'm a respectable woman, unlike Phoebe, who's always caught up in scandals and has a kid with an unknown father. I'm better than her."

Taylor saw the jealousy twisting Sandra's face and shook her head slowly. "Ms. Ramirez, first off, whether I like you or not doesn't matter. Second, whether Phoebe has scandals or not doesn't matter. What matters is that Theodore doesn't like you."

"I'll make him like me," Sandra said, her face contorted.

Taylor sighed, "Why waste time on someone who's already taken? Ms. Ramirez, focus on someone else. I don't want you to end up with nothing."

With that, she turned and entered the elevator.

Sandra stood outside, watching the doors close, seething with anger.

She knew Taylor never liked her, so she rarely tried to win her over.

She had hoped to win over Sarah, but Sarah was becoming more forgetful.

She had to constantly remind her of Phoebe's faults to keep her disliking Phoebe.

Sandra clenched her teeth. She couldn't just watch Phoebe and Theodore get back together.

She had to use Hubert, Boris, and Noomi to her advantage.

In the Vanderbilt Group's CEO's office, Edward walked in.

Brian was on the phone and gestured for him to wait.

After a few more words, Brian hung up.

He placed the hot phone on his desk and looked at Edward. "What's up? You seem in a hurry."

Edward handed a document to Brian. "Brian, there's a project. They're planning a new tech city and will allocate land for the center. Many companies are bidding. I checked it out, and the location is excellent."

However, the new area's location was reportedly very good, attracting many companies to bid.

Brian didn't believe in such superstitions but said, "Edward, our company just stabilized after the investigation. We should take it easy for now."

Edward frowned, "Brian, precisely because we were hit hard, we need this project to restore the Vanderbilt family's prestige. If we don't move forward, we'll soon be out of the top four families."

Brian thought Edward was being too aggressive. "I understand, but we need to be responsible to our shareholders and employees."

"I don't see how bidding on a profitable project conflicts with that. You haven't even reviewed the proposal and have already dismissed it. That's too hasty," Edward said, annoyed.

Brian softened his tone, "Fine, I'll review the document and have the project assessed. You've been working hard. With Christmas coming, why not take a break? Don't push yourself too hard."

Edward sensed Brian's dismissiveness and said sternly, "Brian, if you don't agree to bid on this project, I'll bring it to the shareholders for a vote."

With that, he left, ignoring Brian's attempts to stop him.

Brian sighed heavily.

Ever since Edward's proposal to Phoebe failed, he'd become increasingly irritable.

This wasn't good.

It seemed he needed to talk to Phoebe.
