Chapter 880 You'll Be the One in Trouble

Harper was lounging when he spotted Phoebe and the others walking in. He quickly waved them over. "Phoebe, get over here! Let me take a look at you. Why have you lost so much weight?"

Phoebe slipped into house shoes and walked in, noticing Evelyn coming out of the kitchen with a fruit platter. She raised an eyebrow, silently asking her what this was all about.

Evelyn shot her a look and placed the fruit platter on the table, her tone indifferent. "Have some fruit and then head back. Don't say I didn't treat you well."

Phoebe felt like she and Theodore had come back at the wrong time.

Evelyn always valued her dignity and would definitely lose her temper with Harper in front of them.

She discreetly signaled Theodore with her eyes.

Theodore walked over and greeted Harper, "Mr. Ziegler, I've heard so much about you. It's an honor to finally meet you."

"No need for flattery. We're not close. I haven't even settled the score with you for what you did to Phoebe, and here you are, coming to our house."

Harper was secretly furious. Evelyn chuckled angrily. "You're no saint, so don't go judging others."

Harper was taken aback, giving Evelyn a look.

Even if Evelyn resented him, they should be united when it came to Phoebe's future, not undermining each other.

But Evelyn wasn't about to let him have his way. "What's wrong with your eyes? Are they twitching? Go see an eye doctor. It's getting late, so I won't keep you."

Harper was fuming but saw that it was indeed late. He stood up to leave. "Theodore, walk me out."

Theodore, who had never been treated this way, especially by Phoebe's father, rubbed his nose. "Of course!"

As they walked out, Phoebe sat on the couch, picking up a fork to eat some fruit, her eyes darting around.

Evelyn glanced out the window.

Theodore was a step behind Harper, and they seemed to be talking as they walked towards the front door.

She turned back to Phoebe. "How did you run into Evan again on this trip?"

"How did you two meet? Did Theodore say anything when he picked you up? Phoebe, you need to be careful. You know how possessive Theodore is. If you keep this up, you'll be the one in trouble," Evelyn warned.

Phoebe recalled how Theodore had dealt with her in the past, a blush creeping up her face.

What once felt humiliating now seemed kind of nice.

She quickly shook her head. Maybe she had some strange tendencies deep down, or why else would she think that way?

Evelyn saw her shaking her head and thought she had taken her words to heart. "You need to explain things properly and make it up to him. Theodore has been so attentive with Hubert, Boris, and Noomi these past few days."

When Theodore first moved in, Evelyn had her doubts.

But seeing how well he got along with Hubert, Boris, and Noomi had put her at ease.

Phoebe munched on an apple. "I just ran into Evan by chance. We went our separate ways after getting off the plane. Why don't you believe me?"

"It doesn't matter if I believe you. Theodore needs to believe you. What's going on between you two? Are things okay?" Evelyn couldn't help but ask.

Phoebe's cheeks turned even redder. "Why are you asking me this? I've been busy all day and I'm exhausted. I'm going upstairs."

Evelyn watched Phoebe hurry up the stairs, frustration evident as she stomped her foot.

Outside the front door, Harper scrutinized Theodore for a moment.

Theodore, with his looks, family background, and abilities, was top-notch in Kedora.

Harper couldn't find any faults with him.

After a long pause, he finally spoke. "I heard that three years ago, when kidnappers took Phoebe and your first love, you chose to save your first love first."

Theodore felt a pang of embarrassment and quickly tried to explain. "Mr. Ziegler,"

Harper raised his hand, cutting him off. With decades of business experience, he knew how to hit where it hurt to gain the upper hand.

"There's no need to explain. I have a rule: once untrustworthy, always untrustworthy."

Theodore's lips tightened, his attitude sincere. "Mr. Ziegler, I know I wronged Phoebe back then. I'll do everything I can to make it up to her."

"Anyone can say they'll make it up. Since you don't mind Hubert, Boris, and Noomi, I'll let it slide for now. But if you ever treat Phoebe poorly, I'll find someone else for her, someone who may not be as capable as you but will treat her and the kids well."

In Harper's eyes, Phoebe was the best, regardless of Hubert, Boris, and Noomi. She was the best woman in Kedora.

Theodore's jaw tightened as he looked at the shrewd Harper.

In the end, he relented and said, "Dad, I'm on your side."

Theodore, being the company leader, didn't need any hints to understand.

Harper felt particularly pleased with his words and patted Theodore's shoulder. "It's great dealing with smart people. Let's have a drink together sometime."

Theodore opened the car door for him. "Sure, just give me a call whenever you're free. I'll be there."

Harper got into the car, leaving happily.

Theodore stood outside for a while, watching the car's taillights disappear around the corner before heading back to the villa.

Evelyn waved him over to have some fruit. Theodore said, "Mom, I'll go check on Phoebe."

Evelyn smiled knowingly and waved him off. "I understand. Do you want to take the fruit platter upstairs?"

"No, you enjoy it." Theodore took long strides, quickly heading upstairs.

Evelyn watched his hurried back, shaking her head with a sigh. She looked at the freshly cut fruit platter and decided to take it to Pamela's room.

Upstairs, Phoebe was in the shower.

Theodore waited on the sofa outside, playing a game on his phone, but he couldn't focus.

The sound of running water was loud, and his thoughts drifted to the few times they had bathed together.

He heard the bathroom door open, and steam billowed out as Phoebe stepped out, drying her hair.

Seeing Theodore on the sofa, she paused. "Did Dad leave?"

"Yeah, I just saw him out. Come here." Theodore beckoned her with a finger, his gesture irresistibly enticing.

Phoebe walked over slowly, and he pulled her to sit beside him.

The next moment, he took the towel from her and gently dried her hair.

"What does Mom think about Dad?"
