Chapter 107. Truth Be Told

The look on Mister Patrick’s face was priceless. He kept on gawking since Estelle told him the very surprising news of Sienna’s pregnancy.
He was still standing at the doorsill with Estelle, while Sienna and Daniel stood against them on the terrace.
At the time, Mister Patrick tried to say something. But his face already looked numb. It was like he held the pain from the inside. He was still shocked.
Afterward, Sienna shouted first, “Dad, I’m sorry…”
They glanced at Sienna quietly. But the moment Mister Patrick exchanged a glance at Daniel, he looked terrified.
“And… and tell me… why Daniel Wilson is here?” He asked perplexingly.
“Mister Moss…” Daniel was about to introduce himself, but Sienna immediately put her hand on his chest to stop him from speaking.
Daniel looked at her bewilderingly. Even at the last second, she still didn’t want him to tell the truth to her parent. It was just too painful for her. She couldn’t do this to her dad. And she knew that look in her dad’s eyes. He was hurt when he found out about her sudden pregnancy.
And then Mister Patrick wondered, “Sienna, is your baby out of wedlock?”
Sienna flinched. She instinctively shook her head. But then she realized what she was about to tell him. This was too complicated.
“Dad, it’s…” then Sienna paused from talking and bit her lips anxiously.
When Daniel noticed how nervous Sienna was at the time, he took over the conversation again. This time, he really had to tell her dad about what was going on between them.
Although he knew that Sienna would disagree and she would hate him, but he got to do what was right anyway.
And then he said firmly, “Mister Moss, Sienna and I, we got married nine years ago.”
Mister Patrick and Estelle immediately gasped the air. They were terribly astonished when Daniel finally told them the truth.
Meanwhile, Sienna could only crush his shoulder with her hand. She was trying to hold her rage from coming out of her chest. She was so angry when Daniel had to reveal the secret that she was supposed to keep after all this time.
“What? How?” Mister Patrick looked trembling when he first heard the news.
Mister Patrick and Estelle kept staring at Sienna and Daniel. They got shocked for sure.
Afterward, Mister Patrick spoke again, “Sienna, please explain to me why I didn’t know about your marriage at all with Daniel Wilson?”
And Estelle snapped out, “Cuz, what’s happening to you, huh?”
Sienna blinked rapidly. She didn’t know where to start explaining. Her mind was completely in a chaotic state. It was just hard for her to explain everything to them.
And then suddenly, Daniel held her palm and caressed her hand. When Sienna stared up at him, he gave her a calm look at the time.
He reminded her, “Come on, Sienna, it’s time to tell your dad what he deserves to know. Everything will be just fine.”
And then she heard her dad said, “Come inside, please…”
Mister Patrick Moss stepped aside from the door to give them the space to enter the foyer.
Then he said, “It’s better we have this conversation inside. We can sit and talk. And have a little nice warm tea maybe…”
Even in an uncomfortable situation like this, Mister Patrick still tried to show his smile in front of them.
Sienna knew how her dad was feeling. He was in shock. He looked stressed out. She felt tremendously guilty to make her dad felt that way.
This was not supposed to happen. She was supposed to ask Daniel to divorce her and walked away silently for good.
But everything had changed. It didn’t happen the way she wanted it. And it was the time for her to confront her fear to talk about the truth.
As they walked into the house, Mister Patrick ordered Estelle to make three cups of warm tea for them in the living room.
As soon as Estelle went to the kitchen, Mister Patrick welcomed them to sit with him on the comfy sofa in the living room.
And then he said, “Nine years ago, you got married to Daniel Wilson. That means when you were still in college and your mother was…”
When he mentioned his wife, he flinched and his lips immediately closed tightly. The memories hit him so bad as he recalled about the past.
Afterward, he managed to make his voice calm and steady again, “Just please, tell me everything that’s been going on. I need to know why you have been keeping it a secret from me.”
Sienna muttered with her eyes glossed, “Dad, please forgive me for hiding this secret from you. I’m just afraid that you will hate me forever. And I’m afraid of a lot of things…”
And then Daniel helped to explain the story to him, “Mister Moss, first of all, we’d like to apologize to you that we haven’t told you about our marriage. Truthfully, at our private wedding nine years ago, only my parents and my workers attended the party. I haven’t even shared my marital status publicly until now, because I care about Sienna’s feeling.”
Beside him, Sienna gulped down her saliva restlessly.
Daniel continued speaking, “But I have discussed this with Sienna before, this secret cannot be hidden forever. That we realize one day we have to tell everyone about our marriage.”
Then Sienna added, “Yes, Dad, that’s because I was afraid that you would not give your blessing to our marriage. Because you once said…”
When Mister Patrick stared at her without blinking, she was nervous.
But then she managed to tell him, “I remember you said you forbid me to engage with the Wilson family because of their reputation. But I didn’t know that my fate brought me to marry him eventually.”
“Oh, Sienna, my beloved daughter, why you did this to me?” Mister Patrick muttered in disbelief. He certainly looked hurt. “You were scared that I would refuse your marriage with Daniel Wilson, huh?”
Sienna nodded, terrified. “Yes, Dad. I know you dislike Daniel back then since you heard the rumor that his family is a mafia gangster.”
“Well, it’s not a rumor, Mister Moss. My family and I are Romanian mafias,” Daniel confirmed. “But I assure you that no harm will come to your daughter now.”
Mister Patrick narrowed his eyebrows, baffled. “Now? And what happened before?”
Sienna and Daniel exchanged a glance at each other for a second. At the same time, Estelle just came to bring over the tray of their cups of warm tea.
After Estelle put down the three cups on the table for them, she sat beside Mister Patrick.
“About that… I was…” Sienna murmured uneasily.
Afterward, her dad shouted out, “Nine years ago, after your mother died and I went broke, you had an accident in Canada.”
Sienna flinched. “That was… I fell from the boat and lost my memories.”
And then Estelle shouted, “My mom said you were on a vacation at the time with Cora, your best friend.”
Sienna immediately shook her head disagreed. “No, that’s not the truth. But Cora does know about my secret. She’s the only one that I told about my marriage with Daniel.”
“The accident happened because I was not careful enough to see my enemy went in our boat back then,” Daniel told them. “His name is Grigori Igor, a Russian mafia who wants to rob my money and destroy my life.”
Everyone was quiet when Daniel spoke with such a charming charisma he had.
“Unfortunately, Sienna got involved in the scene and fell into the water. And then I lost her for nine years,” he said.
Mister Patrick and Estelle looked bewildered by what he told them. And then Estelle asked wonderingly, “But how about your marriage with Sienna back then? What happened after you lost her? But we found her and brought her to stay in New York.”
“I lost my memories, Estelle. I didn’t remember him at all. Until I met him again a few months ago. He recognized me,” Sienna murmured.
Estelle gasped the air and shouted out loud, “Oh, God, Daniel was the mafia that kidnapped you last month in Canada! Turns out, he’s your husband!”
Mister Patrick narrowed his eyebrows, bewildered. “What do you mean?” Then he glanced at his daughter and snapped, “How much secret that you keep from me, Sienna?”
“Dad, I admit that I’m foolish! That’s why I’m begging Daniel to divorce me now! I will start my life over again!” Sienna snarled out emotionally.
“Sienna!” Daniel exclaimed angrily. “We can’t. You have a baby in your womb.”
When Daniel reminded her, and then Mister Patrick said, “He’s right. You can’t ask him to divorce you, Sienna.”
The moment Mister Patrick said so, they all glanced at him, surprised.
Then Daniel immediately assured him, “I really love Sienna. I will take care of her.”
At the time, Mister Patrick couldn’t get angry at them. He was worried about Sienna’s condition since she was pregnant. Then he told her, “Sienna, you should take care of the baby.”
Sienna gawked at him. She didn’t expect him to look so calm like that.
Mister Patrick said, “Remember, it doesn’t mean I forgive you two for hiding this from me for nine years. I just want to see Sienna safe. And the baby will be born healthy.”
After her dad said that, Sienna could only stare back weakly at him.
