Chapter 80. Sick Father Day
There were two vacant bedrooms in the house. One was a guest room and the other belonged to Mister Patrick Moss. His bedroom had been vacant ever since he stayed in London for work.
And this time, he came back to sleep in his own cozy bedroom. Aunty Milla had cleaned up his room before he came this afternoon.
They arrived home around four p.m. when the weather felt warm in the yard.
While Aunty Milla went to the bathroom to take a shower, Estelle helped Sienna preparing food and drinks for Mister Patrick Moss.
His body temperature was getting hotter when he arrived at home earlier. Obviously, Sienna was beginning to feel worried about his condition.
“I think, he’s probably not eating well while in London,” Estelle said while making the warm milk for her uncle.
Sienna slightly glanced at her while making granola oatmeal. And then she said, “Yes, he told me he has not been eating properly. He forgets to take care of himself because of the workload in his office. I think he should stop forcing himself to work for once.”
Estelle nodded agreeably and murmured, “Yeah, you should look after your dad.”
Sienna smiled as she put down the bowl of granola oatmeal on the wooden tray.
Afterward, Estelle handed over the mug of warm milk that she had made to Sienna. At the time, she asked wonderingly, “How are Jonathan these days? He has not been coming over to see you at home.”
Sienna glanced at her and froze. She almost totally forgot about Jonathan since she came here to take care of her dad.
For a second, Sienna pretended to clear her throat and said, “Ugh, Jonathan, he is…”
Estelle rested her hand on her waist as she waited for Sienna to answer that simple question.
Sienna took a deep breath and murmured, “Well, he is fine. We both are fine, but…”
Estelle pinched her eyes bafflingly. “What do you mean? Is everything okay between you two? You seem off about him…”
Sienna tucked her hair behind her ear. Then she said cautiously to her cousin, “Estelle, it’s between me and him. You don’t need to worry.”
But Estelle argued, “Come on, Cuz. If anything happens between you two, you can tell me. Maybe I can be your relationship advisor.”
Sienna rolled her eyes and giggled. But soon, she stared solemnly at her. “Estelle, actually, Jonathan and I are taking a pause.”
Estelle bulged her eyes out, surprised. “What? You’re not serious, Cuz!”
“Shush! Lower your voice down, Estelle!” She muttered, admonishing her. “My dad and Aunty Milla don’t need to know about this. I will work things out with Jonathan soon, but not now, not today.”
Estelle was gawking at her. And then she asked curiously, “What is going on with you two? Why so suddenly?”
“I need time to think,” Sienna murmured bitterly. And she definitely couldn’t let Estelle know about the real circumstance that was happening. It was just too complicated and chaotic.
“Why? Is there someone else that you like?” Estelle quickly assumed.
Sienna instantly shook her head. “No! Absolutely no!”
“Then what is it?” Estelle wanted to understand her.
Sienna had to give her a reason that made sense. And she had not thought thoroughly about this, except for the same reason she gave to Jonathan, “Well, I’m taking a break with him because I want to think about my future with him. We’re planning to get engaged soon, but I think, it’s too sudden and all…”
Estelle immediately shouted back, “Too sudden? Cuz! You’re twenty-eight-year-old, you will be a virgin forever if you’re not marrying him soon!”
The moment Estelle said the word of a virgin, Sienna flinched, surprised.
Not that her cousin knew the real truth about herself. Sienna Moss was no longer a virgin nine years ago. She secretly got married to a Romanian mafia. And no one in her family knew about it, except her best friend, Cora Mulligan.
This was all too complicated to be her love story. She had never expected that her life would turn like a crazy roller coaster ride. It was a dark fairytale for sure.
Sienna looked away from her. And then she brought the wooden tray in her hand and walked to her dad’s bedroom.
“Cuz! We are not done talking yet!” Estelle shouted out as she followed her behind.
Sienna glanced at her and said carefully, “I told you to lower your voice down!”
“Ups, sorry, but I need to understand why you have a second thought about Jonathan,” she muttered bafflingly. “Is it because he is just a school teacher? You said he is no longer a stock trader. So, he is not a rich man…”
“Gosh, Estelle, you have such shallow thinking!” Sienna admonished her. “I’m in love with Jonathan because he is a good guy. I don’t care about his money. I can find my own money.”
Estelle giggled and murmured, “Yeah, that’s what every independent woman will say.”
Sienna shook her head and tried to ignore her cousin from mumbling annoyingly.
As soon as she entered the bedroom, his dad was laying down on the bed. He opened his eyes the moment Sienna put down the wooden tray on the table next to his bed.
“Hey, Dad, you should eat now. I make you granola oatmeal. And this one, Estelle made it for you, the delicious warm milk,” she said as she brought over the bowl for him.
He hurriedly sat down on the bed and received the bowl. Then he smiled happily.
“Sienna, thank you for caring for me. I really need this,” her dad murmured. “I’ve been living alone in London. I really miss someone taking care of me.”
Sienna sat with him on the bed. She smiled while caressing his foot.
“Dad, you can just stay here with us. Find a job here in New York,” Sienna suggested to him.
He paused from chewing the food, then he glanced quietly at her.
“Come on, Dad. You can’t force yourself to live alone in London for a job,” Sienna said. “I can help to make money. And there is Estelle now. She has a job already. You don’t need to send us money every month.”
“Sienna, I am the head of this family. How could I be jobless and watch you guys working?” Her dad muttered.
Sienna sighed heavily and said, “Dad, I didn’t say you have to be jobless. I said you can find a job here.”
Her dad giggled when seeing how frustrated Sienna when convincing him. But then suddenly, he felt a bad headache. He caressed his forehead for a second.
Sienna immediately shouted out, “Dad? What’s wrong?”
“My head hurts,” he muttered.
“Okay, I will get you the painkiller pill. Wait for me,” she said and hurriedly walked out from his bedroom.
Estelle was still sitting down alone in the dining room when Sienna went there.
“Hey, Estelle, do you have a painkiller pill?” She asked.
Estelle answered, “My mom has a painkiller. Just get it in her bedroom.”
Sienna nodded and immediately entered Aunty Milla’s bedroom.
When she went there, Aunty Milla was still taking a shower in the bathroom. She hurriedly searched for the painkiller everywhere.
Her eyes and hands were exploring the desk for a minute. There were too many things that were scattered on this dark wooden desk.
She had a hard time finding what she was looking for. She had opened the drawers, but she had not found them yet.
When her hands were scanning the surface of the desk again, her eyes caught something between the pile of papers and books over there.
It was a photo. One photo made her eyes instantly bulged out in huge astonishment.
“Wait… what the…” she muttered in disbelief with what she saw.
This was a photo of a man that threatened her on the boat from nine years ago. She remembered the fraction memories. She had regained some of her nightmares.
She could recall his name. This was a Russian mafia.
And his name escaped her pretty mouth, “Grigori Igor.”
But she wondered why Aunty Milla had his photo. And why Aunty Milla kept the photo of this man in her bedroom?
It was like a tornado hit her head so badly. Her heart was also beating anxiously.
She took the photo to see it closely. After a moment she saw his face, she was assured this was the same man who almost killed her on the boat.
Before she could put down the photo, the bathroom door was opened.
Sienna almost jumped out of her feet when Aunty Milla reprimanded her, “What are you doing here, Sienna?”
She immediately put down the photo on the desk again. Then she turned to see her aunt. Her face turned pale and her heart pounded anxiously.
“Ugh, I… I…” Sienna felt too awkward to speak up.
On the other side, Aunty Milla watched her bewilderingly. “Sienna?”
And soon, Sienna spilled the bean, “Aunt, I’m here to get a painkiller pill for my dad. Do you have one?”
