Chapter 31. Running Away

As soon as Sienna found her way out of the big mansion, she went to seek help nearby.
At first, she felt so lost. Her eyes were kind of blurry to see the view in front of her. And the hazy feeling was still crawling on her head. But she had to force herself to get focused. She couldn’t waste any more time for resting. She had to find help somewhere. She believed there would be a place she could ask for help.
She was so out of breath when walking around the empty road. The night was so quiet and pretty dark outside.
Until then, she saw some small buildings in the area. She quickly went there to check on the places. There was only one place among those crappy buildings that was still opened. It was a local minimarket.
At the moment her eyes saw the neon sign of the place was still on, she felt relieved. She quickly opened the door to see what the place could offer her.
When she looked at the front desk, a young boy was standing there.
“Hello?” Sienna greeted him cautiously.
The boy suddenly jumped out of his feet. He looked surprised by her arrival. If she didn’t knock on his desk, he was almost falling asleep. He seemed tired though. He had bad eyebags.
Afterward, Sienna pretended to clear her throat before she spoke to him again, “Excuse me, can I use the telephone here?”
The boy gave her a suspicious stare. She was not a thief that he had to give her such an annoying stare like that. But there was no time for pouting, Sienna had to use every second that was left before Daniel and his people could find her whereabouts.
“Please, it’s urgent. I need to call my boyfriend. I lost my purse and my phone,” she begged.
The boy stared gingerly at her. He looked pretty tensed. It seemed he was afraid if she might be robbing him.
“Look, I swear I’m not a thief,” she finally had to declare herself to him. “You can call the cops and point out a gun at my face if I rob you,” she sighed peevishly. “Come on, give me some mercy…”
That boy finally took a deep breath to ease his tension. Then he nodded at her and said, “You can use the telephone in the back room. It’s near the bathroom there.”
She quickly followed where his hand pointed out. And then she stared back at him and murmured, “Thank you so much.”
She walked there to grab the phone and dial the numbers she could remember. And fortunately, she did remember her boyfriend’s phone number.
It took some minutes before he answered her phone call. She had to redial the number a few times. She hoped he would wake up if he was sleeping at the time.
And soon, once she heard his voice, she wanted to cry so badly.
“Oh, Gosh, Jonathan! I miss you so much!” She almost screamed out. She immediately lowered her voice and stared down when the boy at the front desk watched her well-warily.
“Sienna? What time is it?” He sounded surprised that she called him too early in the morning. She knew the time difference between Vancouver and New York was just three hours. It was two a.m. in Vancouver, which mean it was five a.m. in New York.
She licked her dry lips and muttered, “Jonathan, I…”
But he quickly shouted out cheerfully on the phone. “Hey, how’s your trip in Canada? I heard Daniel is being very generous for you!”
Sienna instantly raised her eyebrows, tremendously bewildered. “What…”
“I know you’ve been wanting to go on a good trip over the weekend, but I don’t have the perfect time for you, honey,” he chuckled. “I’m sorry. I’m so busy, busy, busy all the time,” he didn’t give her a chance to talk, he kept on talking excitedly, “You know, there are office work and stuff that I should handle over the weekend. Daniel is about to give me a good promotion!”
“Jonathan! Oh, my God! You’ve been brainwashed by him and you don’t even realize it!” Sienna admonished him. “You have no idea what has been actually happening here to me.”
“What are you talking about, honey?” Jonathan got bewildered. “Hey, it’s so early in the morning, I’m about to make a coffee when you called.”
“Jonathan! Listen to me, okay?” Sienna begged her boyfriend. She then whispered on the phone, hoping the boy at the front desk wouldn’t hear her, “I’m being kidnapped by him.”
“What? Kidnapped what?” He didn’t understand her. “Please, rephrase what you said.”
“Gosh, Jonathan! Don’t be stupid and get in your right mind now!” Sienna admonished him again. “I don’t think I will have more time to waste here. I’m currently calling you from a local minimarket in Vancouver. Listen, alright…” she tried to tell him the truth, “Daniel kidnapped me. I’m able to find my way out from his mansion. He is not being generous at all if you think he accommodated me for my fake trip to Canada. He is a liar! Don’t believe him.”
“This is so messed up. What the hell? Are you telling me the truth now?” Jonathan had to assure himself before he could do something to help her out of it.
“Gosh, Jonathan, I’m being one hundred percent sober now and you know I’d never lie to you!” Sienna snarled him on the phone. “Just please, get me out of here. I lost my purse and my phone. Daniel took my stuff. He is a bad person, Jonathan. And he is just using you to get me since the beginning! I will never lie to you!”
“Sienna, you blow my mind!” He muttered peevishly. “If this is some kind of your horror joke, I won’t forgive you. You know that Daniel is a gentleman and the most trustworthy person in the business industry, right? How could he be a liar for such a thing?”
“For God’s sake, stop defending that culprit!” She muttered emotionally. And then she cried it out on him. She was feeling depressed about it. “Just buy me a flight ticket to go home now. I don’t want to be here anymore, Jonathan!”
“Are you crying now?” Jonathan got more bewilder.
“Yes, I am, Jonathan. I’m scared. I don’t have money. I don’t have my phone. I got lost,” she talked it all out to him. “Of course, I’m so scared of my life right now.”
“Okay, honey, I will buy you the flight ticket to New York immediately!” Jonathan sounded kind of panicking afterward. “Just hold on there. Don’t go anywhere. Just stay where you are.”
“Jonathan, please hurry…” She begged him while crying quietly.
“I… I need to find my laptop. Where is my laptop? Gosh…” as he muttered, she heard he was bumping into something in the room that made him whined.
“Jonathan, careful, honey,” Sienna muttered.
“Okay, I will come to your rescue…” He said on the phone. “I will go there to pick you up by myself. Just hide where you can, okay?”
“I will find my way to the airport. I think it’s not that far from here,” she told him.
“Are you sure you’ll be alright, darling?” He was hugely worried for her.
“I love you, Jo,” she whispered. “I’ll be surely alright. And I’ll be waiting for you in the airport today.”
“Okay, I love you too. I will come to you soon, honey!” He said to her.
And then she hanged up the phone call with a feeling of relief.
“Oh, thank God. I can finally hear his voice again,” Sienna muttered to herself.
And then suddenly, she bulged her eyes surprisingly when seeing that clerk boy already stood behind her. He was certainly eavesdropping on her phone call earlier. She immediately gulped down her saliva anxiously.
“You are being kidnapped?” He seemed worried for her. “Are you serious?”
Sienna looked at him nervously. “It’s… ugh… it’s… yeah…”
She was stammering. And she was kind of trembling when standing face to face with him. She immediately brushed away her tears.
“Look, there’s a police station nearby. I can escort you there in a minute,” he informed her. “You can report the case to the police.”
She quickly shook her head. “Oh, no, I can’t…”
She knew who she was dealing with. It was Daniel Wilson. The man with much power and influence. It would seem so unbelievable to report him to the police. Even Jonathan didn’t believe her at first. How could anyone believe her? She would just make a scene and draw too much attention later. She wouldn’t want to do that and risk Jonathan’s live as well.
And then she told him, “It’s better I just walk away quietly. I just don’t want to deal with a much bigger problem later.”
“What do you mean?” He got baffled.
“He is a mafia, the kidnapper,” he told him carefully. “He is kind of manipulative. So, I don’t think I will get away with the problem if I report him. He can always get back to me again if I do that. The thought just scares me.”
The boy sighed heavily. He looked sympathy for her. Then he quickly walked toward the vending machine to get a cold soda drink for her.
“Here, take this,” he offered her kindly.
Sienna popped her eyes, surprised. “Are you sure? Is this for free? Because I don’t have…”
“I know. You don’t have the money. But just take it,” he wanted to cheer her up. “I hope the person you called on the phone will rescue you soon.”
As she found the comfort in his words, the corner of her lips turned upward.
