Chapter 60. The Money Ransom
Sienna tried to keep smiling every time Daniel glanced in her direction. She didn’t want to look panicked in front of him. She wanted to be able to spend the happy moment with her husband here on the luxury boat. And she wanted to look confident as well.
“Baby, what are you thinking?” Daniel suddenly asked.
She blinked her eyes, surprised when he noticed. She almost forgot that Daniel was an observant person. And if the rumor about him being a Romanian mafia was true, then she shouldn’t question about this.
He hugged her waist from behind and murmured, “You seem a little bit off since the lunch break. Is there something that’s been bothering you?”
She quickly chuckled to hide her panicked expression.
“Ugh, Baby! There is not!” She shouted back. “You’re the one that is reading it too far.”
But she just realized that her voice sounded kind of defensive when she talked.
When she glanced at him, Daniel was pinching his eyes bewilderingly at her.
“Are you sure, Baby?” He asked again. He didn’t seem to believe her words.
“Gosh, you’re so clingy! Back off a little bit!” She barked at him eventually. She didn’t want him to find out what was actually going on inside of her hectic mind.
He giggled when Sienna pushed his body backward. Then he came closer to kiss her ear.
The boat began to leave the port bridge. Daniel had commanded his bodyguard to drive the boat. And he ordered his other men to guard around.
When staring blankly at the water view, the idea suddenly hovered into her mind. Sienna should have asked him about one thing. She just wanted to make sure. But she actually didn’t have the gut to bring up the topic to him.
For a second, she pretended to clear her throat. And then she glanced at him again.
“Daniel, Baby, can I ask you about something?” She spoke carefully.
He chuckled. “Go on, ask me anything you want to know, Baby.”
She grinned to look cheerful in front of him. While her heart was pounding anxiously.
“Okay, so…” she licked her lips and spoke, “I once have asked you about your family background…”
The moment she brought up the topic, Daniel flinched. It was like he didn’t ready to spill the bean to her yet. But he already stated earlier that she could ask about anything.
Thereafter, she continued asking, “But you haven’t confirmed about it yet. I mean, if it’s true or not that your family is…”
“The Romanian Mafias? Do you want to confirm to me whether the rumor is true or fake?” Daniel could read her mind almost immediately.
She nodded. She was so nervous to talk about this sensitive topic with him. But she had to know the truth since she already got married to him. She realized that it was not fair for him because he didn’t know about her truth either. She was just being kind of selfish here. It was like their marriage was done blindfold.
Then Daniel stood beside her, leaning down on the railing like her. His eyes were staring at the water view for a moment before he told her, “Well, it’s…”
She patiently waited for him to answer her question. She knew this wouldn’t be as easy as it seemed to talk about such a sensitive topic.
Until he finally told her, “It’s the truth, Baby. That’s who we are.”
As soon as she heard his confession, she stood frozenly next to him.
“I just don’t want to scare you. I thought you’re going to need time to take it all slow,” Daniel murmured.
They exchanged a quiet stare at each other. Sienna gulped down her saliva nervously once she heard the truth about him.
“Well, it doesn’t matter, Baby,” Sienna muttered. “Whoever you are, I’m sure you’re a good person from the inside, even when you’re the deadliest mafia in the world.”
He chuckled.
After he stole a kiss on her cheek, he asked, “Why? You suddenly want to talk about it.”
She gawked. She felt kind of panicking when he suddenly questioned her in return.
“Ugh, it’s… I…” she was stammering to talk, “I was just curious, you know. I want to know with whom I’m married with.”
“Don’t you think it will only be fair if you also tell me about your background?” He asked curiously.
She sighed and shrugged her shoulder. “You already know me.”
He grinned while he stared deeply into her brown eyes.
“Come on, Baby,” he begged her. “You only told me your name. But you have never shared with me the stories about your family.”
She slightly tucked her hair and closed her lips. She was so nervous when Daniel insisted to hear it from her. She had to make up more lies to keep everything hidden. And she knew she would eventually be tired of doing it.
But she knew this was not the right time to tell him about everything. She would, one day. She didn’t intend on hiding forever from him. She wanted to open her mask and be free.
“My family is good. Nothing too fancy, but not too boring either. We have a simple life in the city,” she could only give him with something that sounded general.
He smiled. But it was obvious that he knew she was still hiding something from him. She didn’t want to make a big deal about it. And he didn’t want to force her to spill the bean as well.
“I know, you’re a good person too, Carmelia, Baby,” he murmured.
“Alright, so…” she tried to change the topic before it would get too awkward. Soon, her eyes glanced at the room with a wide glass window, “Oh, Daniel! Let’s see the private room that you’re talking about over there!”
Daniel immediately followed where she was staring at. Then he nodded, “Okay, let’s go.”
They walked together toward the glass door, but before he could enter the room with her, one of his bodyguards called out for him.
“Boss, there’s a call for you,” that big man named Hamuza informed him.
Daniel quickly glanced at her and said, “Go on, you go first. I’ll meet you inside soon.”
She nodded obediently. And as soon as she saw him leaving with Hamuza to the front side of the boat, she opened the door and entered the room alone.
Her eyes immediately looked around the room. There were a comfy black sofa and a coffee table. She walked further to see the wooden cabinet on the corner of the wall, she noticed there were some premium collections of red wine and white wine.
When she was about to turn her back, she suddenly bumped into something hard behind her. As soon as she glanced, she almost got a heart attack to see a man standing in the room.
“Who… who are you?” Sienna shouted alertly. At the same time, the man shushed her, asking her to lower her voice down.
For a second, she observed his mysterious appearance. He wore all black from head to toe. He covered his face with a mask and sunglasses.
This man basically dressed like an unwanted intruder. She couldn’t tell whether he was one of Daniel’s men or not. But she didn’t recall seeing him on the way to the port bridge.
“Sienna Moss, do you remember my voice?” He tried to remind her. “We had a phone call during the lunch break today.”
Her eyes immediately popped out so wide. Her heart skipped a beat.
“Oh, my God…” and then she covered her mouth, prevented herself from screaming out.
That man chuckled as he took out a gun from his pocket pants. And then he pointed out the gun at her face. She immediately raised her hands against him.
“Wa… wait…” Sienna tried to calm him down as she whispered to him, “You haven’t told me how much that you want. And right now, is not such a good time…”
She slightly glanced at the glass door. Nobody was out there on the back of the boat. Everyone gathered on the front side of the boat at the time.
“Look, Daniel is here,” she reminded him cautiously. “If he catches you, it’s game over.”
“Well, I’ve changed my mind. I’d rather see Daniel dead in front of me,” he chuckled devilishly.
Sienna could feel her body trembling. She was so scared of her life.
“Look, we can do the bargain again. I bring the money with me,” she argued with him.
He paused for a second, then he asked, “How much?”
“So much that you can do whatever you want with the money,” Sienna told him.
However, Sienna had already prepared the money, which he requested before. And the money was actually Daniel’s gift for her. But she had to give the money up for Daniel’s safety.
“Where?” The stranger asked curiously. He wanted to see the money with his own eyes.
Sienna quickly showed the bag that she carried along. “Here, in my bag.”
Then she carefully walked past him to put down her bag on the table. Then she opened it to show him that she didn’t lie about it.
He chuckled. “Well, well, good girl.”
Afterward, he took his briefcase which he put down behind the cabinet. Then he ordered her to move all the money into his briefcase.
Slightly, that vintage briefcase looked like with the one that Daniel gave her while they were still in his mansion.
As soon as she finished, then she warned him, “Take the money and go away.”
He chuckled out just like an old west bandit, making her annoyed.
But then he pointed out the gun at her head and whispered, “Now, follow me, pretty girl.”
