Chapter 14. Tension in the Air (+18)
“Pardon me, Mister Wilson. But what do you mean by that?” Sienna asked firmly. Her eyes were watching him well-warily since she sat down in the room.
Her intuition already told her to get up and run away. But her trembling fear kept her feeling numb. She didn’t know why her hunch kept on telling her that something was just off.
But everything was off since the beginning. Somehow, she would assume it that way. She just didn’t know the man she was dealing with. That was the problem.
While everyone wanted to be close with him, she felt the contrary. The more she felt she wanted to be far away from him, the more destiny reunited them once again.
Daniel only smiled quietly at her. But the small dimples in his cheeks were just showing her how mysterious and hard to read this man was.
He raised a glass of wine from his table and said, “Cheers, Miss Moss. Relax, please.”
Sienna narrowed her eyebrows bewilderingly. Then she chuckled out.
“Well, I think this is a mistake to come here. Jonathan is not here right now. I don’t think I have the right reason to meet with you, Mister Wilson, don’t you think?” She finally had to say her restlessness thought out loud.
Daniel chuckled as he put down the glass at the table. Then he replied, “Your boyfriend seems so busy today. I’m actually impressed by the quality of his progress. It’s only his second day, but he has proved how well he is when working in the Wilson Enterprises.”
Sienna sighed and murmured, “Yeah, I hope it’s the good thing for him.”
“Of course. I’m sure Mister Brown is capable to earn his position at my company.”
“He becomes so busy that he can’t accept your invitation for this special lunch. What a pity, huh?” Her voice was a bit sarcastic when she spoke. She didn’t mean to sound like that, but the explosion of her anger was already at the edge of her head.
Daniel only smiled quietly again. As if he was also enduring his emotion toward her. Sienna could feel his silent tension that felt so uncomfortable. She wondered why he seemed so passive aggressive as a person.
Sometimes, he could be friendly. But most of the time, he was just such a cold person. And this time, she was assured she was dealing with the cold side of him.
It seemed he was not in the mood. But if that was the case, why would he rent a private VIP room to treat lunch for her and Jonathan?
Nevertheless, she needed to know what did he mean when he said the first thing to her.
*“Miss Moss, you don’t know how much I’ve been longing to meet you again.”*
*“You just have no idea.”*
His words kept on echoing inside her mind. And that, for sure, felt so annoying.
She pretended to clear her throat, then she asked him, “Mister Wilson, can I ask again? What do you mean when you said about the longing to meet me again? We’re just a complete stranger to each other, until that night in the party…”
And the flash when he kissed her for the first time had crossed her mind again like a lightning thunder. She took a deep breath for a second to calm herself. He already said that it was just a culture kiss. No need to be worried about that. It was nothing personal.
But however, she wanted to know why.
Daniel nodded and said, “Yes, I’ve been longing to meet people outside of work-related. That’s what I mean, Miss Moss,” then he smiled. “It’s been such a long time. My life is just about working and working again. And it’s just…”
“Boring, yeah?” Sienna added.
Daniel chuckled. “Yes, it’s boring.”
After she heard for what reason he said that, she wanted to despise her intuition to ever accuse him for something bad. She just didn’t want to listen to her hunch and the crap without a bold proof beforehand.
This man looked just fine. Maybe he just had such a passive aggressive personality trait. And she had to comprehend such a thing since he was Jonathan’s boss.
The room was so quiet when they stopped talking. Sienna kept gulping her anxiety down in her throat. She didn’t know what to say further in the next conversation with him. Thus why, she thought this was just a stupid mistake to come over.
Daniel poured a bottle of wine into his empty glass. Once he put down that green bottle, then he looked at her in the eyes and talked, “How about we start this lunch with a casual conversation like yesterday, Miss Moss? I’d like to know more about you.”
Sienna instantly chuckled in disbelief when he asked that away.
Estelle’s suspicion was right. Why would someone so important and busy like Daniel Wilson ever want to know about her insignificant personal life? That was just a bit strange.
Then she questioned him in return, “Why does it matter to you? I don’t think my life story is that interesting to be known, Mister Wilson.”
Daniel grinned. Then he murmured while he lightly shook his glass of wine, “I think I feel charmed by your story from the past, Miss Moss. It’s just… special, isn’t it?”
“So, you feel bored and want to hear a story? Then I suggest you to watch movies, Mister Wilson. I’m sure that will be more interesting for you,” Sienna snapped cynically. She was annoyed when he seemed to make fun about it. As if her past story was something to brag about at the lunch yesterday. And it was certainly not.
Daniel chuckled, amused. “No offense here, Miss Moss. Please don’t feel intimidated by me, if that’s what you’re concerned about.”
Her lips trembled when he said that. He was just teasing her, and she could feel that.
“Well, my concern is that; I think this will be our last lunch together, Mister Wilson,” she said firmly to him. She basically gave him a warning. “I am concerned about what my boyfriend will say if we keep meeting privately like this.”
“Oh, Mister Brown doesn’t seem like he is concerned when I asked him in person earlier in the office. He rather wants me to have lunch with you. Isn’t he such a professional worker?” Daniel said firmly as well. And he clenched his jaw again.
“Yes, Jonathan is professional when he works,” Sienna defended her boyfriend.
“Please, Miss Moss. Have a drink with me. Relax…” he raised his glass in the air. “I just want to have a good talk with you.”
She stared at the glass of white wine that was already served at her table. She quickly drank half of the content to wet her dry throat.
Daniel watched her drinking the wine carefully. His eyes lingered observantly at her pink soft lips. And he never looked away from her.
Sienna smiled at him and then said, “Thank you for inviting me, Mister Wilson. But I still think we shouldn’t meet again.”
Daniel looked at her, bewildered. “Why is that, Miss Moss? Cannot we know each other?”
Sienna pinched her eyes at him, baffled. Then she snapped, “Don’t you think it will be weird for us to know each other and meet privately like this?”
Daniel didn’t blink at all. His eyes stared sharply and intimidatingly at her.
She added again, “What people will say out there? Cannot you just think wisely about it?”
Sienna was just too exhausted to argue with this cold man. If he wouldn’t see the circumstance as something strange, then she would like to question him if he ever had a lover before? Or if he ever had a wife?
He was stable enough to have a married life with a woman of his choice. He could get married to any woman that he liked. The perfect woman, the superwoman, and whatever kind of woman he ever wanted to spend the rest of his life with. Then why wouldn’t he? Sienna kept wondering quietly inside of her mind.
Afterward, she said again, “Mister Wilson, I hope you can understand,” and she reminded him, “I will be Jonathan’s fiancé in the near future. I thought we already told you that night.”
He drank his glass of wine until finished, then he put it down carefully on the table.
She thought his emotion was hard to interpret at first. But this time, something in his aura told her that he was angry. Why would he cherish such a mix-up feeling inside of him? Why would he be angry when she reminded him politely? Wasn’t he a professional person?
When his eyes gazed out at hers, she flinched nervously.
Sienna froze when he gave her such intimidating eyes. The tension felt thick in the air, making her hard to breathe calmly. Moreover, her heart was racing restlessly.
When the room was so quiet, she looked at him to smile again.
He returned her smile, but the curved of his lips didn’t seem friendly. Instead, his silent smile felt like a threat to her.
All of a sudden, she felt a tremendous pain hit her head. She didn’t know where the pain was coming from. The dizzy feeling went abrupt inside of her head. And her sight slowly blurred.
She tried to look steady in front of him. But the pain was just killing her from the inside. She shut her eyes for a second, then she tried to open them again. She gulped down, feeling the anxiety suddenly attacked her brain system. And her heart raced faster each time.
Then she heard him said firmly, “Why would people will think weirdly about us?”
Sienna glanced perplexingly at him. Her mouth was half-opened.
“What?” She muttered low. Her mind was hard to get focused.
Soon, everything just got so fuzzy. She felt like she was about to fall. She couldn’t hold it any longer. She needed a fresh air. She needed to get out of this room.
And then he said something that made her eyes bulged out in such a great surprise. She just couldn’t believe that he dared to ever say something like that.
And he said to her, *“You are my wife.”*
