Chapter 70. Break Up Moment
On the third day, Daniel called her phone. Sienna knew that he would be on time to call her. She had been preparing herself to face him. She knew she could do it.
That morning, as she took a deep breath, she received his phone call with a strong heart.
*“Have you thought about our last conversation, Baby?”* Daniel asked curiously.
She bit her lips while still sitting at the edge of her bed. All of a sudden, her mind went blank. She felt agitating as her feet kept on stomping on the floor.
*“Baby?”* Daniel spoke again when she didn’t answer him.
“Daniel… I…” she finally said something. “Well, I come to an agreement with you now.”
*“How is it? Are you finally getting back to me, Baby?”* He chuckled, amused.
She sighed heavily and said, “You win. Whatever. I don’t want you to hurt Jonathan and my father. Your problem is with me, not with them.”
*“I told you, Baby. I have no intention to hurt them. I just want to make them a little bit disappointed in life,”* he chuckled devilishly again.
“Listen, Daniel, asshole, whatever you want to do to me, just do it,” Sienna muttered firmly. “If you want to kill me right now, just do so. End my life. End everything now.”
*“Oh, Baby, I’m in love too hard with you that I can’t kill you. But I will if I have to die with you someday,”* he warned her.
“You’re crazy! Psycho!” She shouted back emotionally.
He giggled, amused to hear her struggling to argue with him.
“Whatever, okay? What now? What do you want from me?” She finally gave up.
*“I want you to stay at my place here in New York. I want you to act as my wife. Because you are my wife,”* he reminded her solemnly.
She chuckled cynically. “Gosh, such a lunatic, aren’t you? Whatever. Just tell me your address. I will come to meet you by myself.”
*“I’ll order my man to pick you up, Baby,”* Daniel told her.
“No! You don’t! Just let me come there. Don’t order anyone to come to my house!” She warned him firmly.
*“Why? Are you afraid that your family found out about our lovely relationship?”* He giggled on the phone as he spoke. *“Gosh, after nine years had passed, you’re still this childish.”*
“What did you say to me? Childish? Gosh, you’re a drunkard asshole!” Sienna snapped out emotionally. “You’re the one that is so childish! You’re forcing me like this to be with you. Don’t you think this is a childish act?”
*“Hmm, aren’t we matched, Baby? We’re both the same,”* Daniel chuckled again.
“Whatever, psycho. Just tell me now, where should I go?” Sienna confronted him.
*“I’ll text you the address. I’ll be waiting here on our comfy bed, Baby,”* he teased her.
Sienna felt disgusted with the way he seduced her. She immediately hanged up the phone call and glanced at the clock on the wall. It was seven in the morning.
In a minute, she received a text message from him. Daniel told her his home address.
Afterward, she prepared her suitcase in the bedroom. She threw random clothes and her girl stuff into her brown suitcase. She didn’t care what kind of clothes she would wear to stay in his place later. And she only brought spare clothes for a week. She didn’t think she would stay there for too long anyway.
And soon after, she told Estelle and Aunty Milla that she would stay in Cora’s place for a week. They already knew Cora when they met her yesterday at Sienna’s flower shop. They wouldn’t question her about the sudden vacation, although they were still worried about her wellbeing. Sienna also told Cora about her plan, and she understood.
Nevertheless, Sienna walked out of the house and called out for a yellow cab taxi.
***
During the taxi trip, Sienna stared blankly at the car window. She was thinking about her future with Jonathan. She had not told him that she wanted to break up with him. She was worried that she would hurt his feeling. She didn’t mean to break up with him anyway. She would get back to him again soon after she dealt with her problem with Daniel.
She was hesitating to call Jonathan that day. But she had to.
“Hello? Jo?” She called him while the taxi was stuck in a traffic jam.
*“Sienna, Honey, do you want to grab a coffee with me during lunch break later?”* Jonathan sounded excited as always.
“Ugh, I can’t, Jo…” she was still hesitating to tell him. “I want to tell you…”
*“Sienna, where are you? Are you feeling okay?”* Jonathan suddenly felt worried for her.
She rubbed her forehead anxiously. And then she told him, “Yeah, I’m okay. I’m on my way to visit Cora, my best friend that you met that day in the Wilson Enterprises office.”
*“Oh, yeah, I remember her. She’s Ms. Maddie’s daughter, right?”* Jonathan murmured.
Sienna nodded. “Yup, that’s right.”
*“Why so suddenly? Have you feeling better?”* Jonathan wondered.
“Jo, I’m alright. Don’t worry. I just want to spend time with her again since I haven’t met her for a long time. She’s my best friend back then at college. I miss her. We lost contact before,” Sienna was not entirely lying about missing Cora after all this time. But she had spent time with Cora yesterday when she worked at her flower shop.
*“Okay, just call me when you need anything,”* Jonathan said.
“Listen, Jo, there’s something I need to tell you,” she licked her lips nervously.
*“Okay, what is it, Honey?”* And he didn’t even sound suspicious at all by her awkwardness during this phone conversation.
“We’ve been together for a while now. I think I want us to break up,” she could feel his numbness on the phone when she told him. “I mean not break up for real, Jo…”
*“What? Why? Am I doing something that makes you mad?”* He worried.
“No! Absolutely no! You’re the nicest person that I know in my life. But I just need time to prepare myself mentally before we will deal with our future engagement,” Sienna said carefully.
*“Why we should break up if you just want to delay our engagement? You can just say so,”* Jonathan sounded disappointed in her.
“I’m sorry, Jonathan. I don’t mean to hurt you. I love you,” she convinced him “I just need time to think, that’s all.”
*“What is happening between us? Just be honest. Are you finally getting bored of me?”* Jonathan was feeling unconfident.
“No, I’m not bored with you. Please, just understand that I need time. I will get back to you once I have settled down with my mind, okay?” Sienna assured him once again.
*“Sienna, I hope you can be more honest with me if anything really happens with you,”* Jonathan could feel that she was hiding something from him.
“Jo, please…” she begged him to understand.
*“Why can’t you just tell me? What is actually happening? Tell me that you’re hiding something and you don’t want me to find out,”* Jonathan muttered peevishly.
The taxi driver sometimes stole a glance at her from the rearview mirror. She was aware of being watched. That taxi driver was listening to her phone conversation. She was quickly lowered her voice down.
“Just know that I need time to think everything thoroughly for now,” Sienna murmured.
*“Sienna…”* He was about to argue with her.
Sienna took a deep breath and hurriedly said to him, “I love you, Jo. I have to go now.”
She felt sorry for lying to her boyfriend. It was the best thing she could do to protect him from Daniel. It was better than Jonathan losing his job as a school teacher. She could save him for good and she felt relieved about it.
And soon, she hanged up the phone call before he could answer her. She didn’t want to argue more with him. She wouldn’t be able to hide her emotion if he confronted her.
Soon after, the taxi arrived at the penthouse building in the city. It was located in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. It was the most luxurious neighborhood in the world.
As soon as she paid for the taxi fare, she got out of the car. She stared up at the tall brown building in front of her. Her mouth was agape. She was surprised to see the place looked so exclusive. She didn’t know that Daniel would own many properties.
However, she shouldn’t be wondering about how rich Daniel was. He was a famous businessman. He was known as a billionaire as declared by the Finance World Magazine.
As she walked to the terrace of that place, she saw Hamuza had been waiting for her.
“Hamuza, hello,” she greeted him awkwardly as she dragged down her suitcase with her.
He smiled respectfully at her and said, “Ms. Sienna Moss, welcome. Let me escort you to meet Mister Daniel Wilson now.”
