Chapter 38. The Beginning of College Life
*Nine years ago, when Sienna Moss attended a college in Vancouver, Canada.*
From anything she could choose, she wanted to be just normal like any other person on the entire planet. She wanted to go to college. She wanted to feel the college life. And the last thing she wanted was to follow her dad’s footsteps in studying business management.
She didn’t know if she could make it there as a business student. It didn’t seem easy at first, but she got to try her chance anyway.
Just like what her dad always said to her; *“You never know if you never try.”*
It might sound cliché, but that was the truth. She would never know what opportunity she could have by studying business management there.
Last month, she got accepted into Sauder School of Business. The people there said that it was the best place to go for a student who wanted to study business. And as a beginner, Sienna would want to learn more.
As the time went by, she tried to adapt herself in the new environment. And her dad was right, she could do it. Although she didn’t get a straight A in all the classes she attended, but she had done her best to be a good student there.
During her freshman year in college, she made a friend with Cora Mulligan. Cora was a very cheerful and energetic girl. Sienna felt happy to be her friend.
They spent most of the time together and they never got bored with each other. As they entered sophomore year, they mostly attended the same classes.
“Sienna!” She shouted over by her desk.
When Sienna stared up at her, she saw Cora was waving a hand. Sienna smiled happily as she nodded a chin at her. “Hey, Cora, what’s up?”
Cora was five centimeters shorter than her body height, which was about five foot six inches. But her body was contented, compared to Sienna that looked skinny. Cora had an ash brown bob hairstyle while Sienna had dark brown long wavy hair.
“Have you heard from the students yet? There will be more seminars for us all to attend this month! Ugh, I’m so lazy these days…” Cora muttered peevishly.
“You can’t be lazy if you want to get straight A,” Sienna teased her while giggling.
Cora chuckled as she rolled her eyes, kind of annoyed.
As Sienna raised from the chair and took her sling bag, then she said, “Okay, let’s go grab something yummy to eat…”
But suddenly, the female lecturer raised from her desk while clapping her hands attentively. Everyone in the room was about to leave, but then they glanced bewilderingly at her.
“A business seminar is held right now in the auditorium. Everyone is obliged to attend the seminar…” said the lecturer.
“What seminar?” Cora narrowed her thick eyebrows for a second. “I thought…” but when she just remembered it, she gasped the air. “Damn it! I totally forgot about the announcement. I think I have heard it yesterday.”
Sienna took a deep breath and muttered, “I think my growling stomach needs to wait.”
Afterward, the female lecturer reminded them, “Remember! Everyone has to earn the signature of the speakers for getting an extra score. Please write an essay on the seminar’s topic. I will collect your paper before next week!”
All of the students immediately sighed concurrently in the classroom. They really needed a break from studying and attending the long hours of random seminars.
Cora muttered, “Gosh, more assignment! Makes my head feeling dizzy!”
Sienna chuckled and said, “But we all should do it for the sake of our good grades, huh?”
Cora half closed her eyes and pursed her lips as she said cynically, “You bet.”
The auditorium was only a few meters away from their classroom. When they entered the auditorium, the seminar had not formally begun. The host was speaking on the stage, presenting the theme that would be discussed by the speakers.
There were only a few people that already sat on the chairs before the students from the next class came by. Then Cora quickly guided Sienna to sit in the back of the room with her.
“I just don’t like being in the spotlight,” Cora muttered. “You know how annoying Mister George when he’s being the host of the seminar.”
“Yeah, he will force the students that are sitting in the first to three rows to answer his damn boring questions,” Sienna said while grinning mischievously. “I’ve been there, done that.”
“Oh, Sienna, come on,” Cora giggled for a second and said again, “Don’t be down to earth with me. I know you’re a smarty pants student. You’ve got nothing to lose even Mister George Smith will ask you with a bunch of hard questions.”
Sienna shrugged her shoulders ignorantly. She just didn’t want to bluff around, saying how smart she could be. She was just studying hard every day.
She remembered what her mom said; *“You are worth it. You can do anything you want with the faith you put into your soul.”*
Her parents were always the best advisor for her mundane life. She felt that she could never make it here if it was not because of their wise words. She felt educated by them.
“Look! The seminar is about to begin!” Cora alerted her as she nudged her arm.
Sienna opened her eyes wide as she watched the speakers entering the stage. Then she quickly took out her notebook and a pen from her brown sling bag.
Cora giggled when seeing how diligent Sienna was. “Gosh, you’re such a freaky student. Just take it easy. I think we can just copy-paste some articles on the internet for the assignment.”
Sienna pinched her eyes in disbelief at her, “It’s not authentic! You’re plagiarizing someone’s work is not a good thing to do!”
“Alright, alright, you got me,” Core rolled her eyes, annoyed. And then she quickly took out her own notebook and a pen from her bag.
Sienna smiled in victory when Cora finally followed her footstep to be a good student.
For a moment, Sienna noticed when Cora suddenly looked surprised about something. She wondered what happened, “Hey, what is it?”
“Oh, Sienna, look at that,” Cora nudged her chin at the people standing on the stage. But she was actually referring only to one of them.
“What?” Sienna asked bafflingly as she stole a glance at those people dressed in formal shirts and suits. “The speakers are here. We should take the heed of what they will be saying, so we won’t be missing anything on writing the essay.”
“Sienna, you are not so sensitive!” Cora muttered, annoyed at her ignorance.
Afterward, Sienna just noticed the girls in the room were chattering to each other while gazing bewitchingly at the stage.
“The girls are about to be hysterical,” Cora said mischievously as she observed some girls in front of them were giggling and grinning excitedly. When she glanced at Sienna again, then she asked, “Are you thinking about the same thing as I am now, Miss Moss?”
Sienna stared bewilderingly at her as she shook her head. “Nope.”
Cora snapped peevishly, “Gosh, you’re such an ignorant dumb prick,” and then suddenly, she dragged Sienna’s head forcefully to see the stage. Then she muttered, “A fricking young handsome man is standing there between the elders!”
“Oh, my… is that why the girls…” and then she observed those girls in front of her. She almost burst to laugh. She found it amusing to see their silly reaction.
“Yeah, you got the idea, huh?” Cora murmured. “Although I can only see him from far away, but look at there, he is so damn hot!”
Cora was referring to the only young man on the stage. And he was the only man that had fair skin in this room.
“Are you referring to the only man wearing the navy-blue suit there?” Sienna murmured. “He seems the youngest one though.”
Cora rolled her eyes, annoyed. “Didn’t I tell you that? Yes, he is the youngest one. That man seems like he’s still in his mid-twenties probably.”
“I bet the girls will jump on their feet when they ask for his signature later,” Sienna grinned while talking to her. “I’d go for the elders though. I won’t wait in line for too long. My stomach growls already, I have to go to the cafeteria after this seminar is over.”
“Well, let see about that,” Cora murmured wonderingly.
After Mister George Smith exchanged a formal handshake with the three speakers, he started introducing them to the students in the auditorium.
“As you already know, the two of our speakers are our beloved professors,” Mister George said while holding the microphone, and then he glanced at that young man.
Cora took a deep breath and whispered, “My heart is racing! Oh, my…”
Sienna giggled when seeing how nervous Cora was. That girl was obviously being too silly.
As they got focused on listening to him again, Mister George spoke on the stage, “Here we have a special guest today. He is the new face of the young and energetic entrepreneur in the trading business industry. Let me introduce you to *Daniel Wilson!*”
