She is pregnant
Aziel's POV
Loraine is pregnant with me, my child growing inside her.
The feeling of fathering a child with the woman I am in love with is indescribable. I never thought about fatherhood before, not even when Lorrich joined our family. He just fits me like a puzzle, we are two souls that are identical although I’m not his biological father. I am aware that I’m important in his life, he looks up to me, I am his biggest role model. But even that didn't bother me, it feels natural.
But having my very own child! I walk on clouds.
Loraine wants to wait for the final tests, but I already know she's pregnant. She has always been hot-blooded, but in recent weeks her drive has increased quite a bit. To keep up with her, I've even been to traditional healers for herbal tea to keep my libido strong and give my fiancée the satisfaction she craves. And I also notice that she eats more, her combustion is high. That's why I asked the secretaries at Fellogan and Windrug to let the cafeteria serve only nutritious meals and have them delivered especially for her.
At home I also provide a balanced menu. I want her pregnancy to complete without too much discomfort. I can't wait to have my own baby in my arms! To me it doesn't matter if it's a girl or boy as long as it's healthy and looks like its mother. I ask no more.
But my happiness is overshadowed by the tragic event of a few weeks ago. I know I have to inform Clairy's grandparents, we had a good relationship back then. Before things get out of hand, I must tell them myself of this reprehensible matter. But when I leave for Barbados, I have to give Loraine a valid reason for my absence and I hate lying to her. I just have to think of another way to do this.
I am currently sitting in my office in an easy chair with my head back.
My voluptuous secretary comes in and stands coquettishly in front of me. I still can't believe I haven't transferred her to an office somewhere in the Mediterranean yet. When will the women around me understand that no one else has a chance to share my bed or even become my wife but Loraine? Even the ring on my finger doesn't stop them, it's like they're on a mission.
“Mr. Renegade, before you came in a private detective called and asked you to return his call,” she says hoarsely. I lean my elbows on my table and twist the engagement ring on my finger. Look, this is really a message she could have passed over the intercom or just stuck on a post-it note on my table. I suppress my annoyance, grab my pen and tap my tabletop a few times.
"Thank you. Can you please send a large flower arrangement to Windrug&So in the name of my wife?” I order her in a questioning way. “Let it be said that I love her. Wait, I will write the text by hand and have the florist attach it to the flowers”. I take a red note and write in my graceful handwriting 'Love you so much, my heart. You make me so happy."
I hand it to the secretary and cheeky as she is she reads it aloud.
After she's done, her face turns disappointed. I look at her closely, waiting for the next move to fire her on the spot. “Mr. Renegade, your fiancé is a real beauty. You announced that you would get married in a few months. But so far, we haven't heard anything further," she says meaningfully. She's on the edge, so she knows what she's doing.
“My wife and I decide that ourselves. The most important is that we wake up next to each other every morning and see each other again at home. We have a son and in the near future we are expanding our family. We love each other," I let her know. “Maybe you can look for real love yourself, not one based on materialism and prestige. Then you will understand what I mean.”
She turns on her heels and disappears.
I immediately pick up the phone and call the Human Resources department. “Please, replace my secretary. She's too much and I'm about to lose my patience with her," I let them know. “Check that her replacement is happily married and not in search of a rich man to take care of her”. They immediately understand what I mean.
Then I grab my cell phone and call the detective. Perhaps things are already moving forward. I want this done quickly, save Loraine from another stress in our relationship.
“Hey man. What's up? Any breakthrough yet?” I ask him expectantly.
“Aziel, man, I'm working with the forensics team and we've collected lots of DNA. Your lawyer also does groundbreaking work. Another month and we'll have plenty of evidence. And then the file can go to the Public Prosecution Services," he explains matter-of-factly. “The best thing about this case is that the drugs she used stayed in your blood for several days, making the tests easier to match”.
I am very pleased with this news, but I can hear some hesitation in his voice. After such a good result, I expected him to be a bit more enthusiastic.
“You don't sound very hopeful. Is something wrong, man?”
“Aziel, I have really, really bad news. It's going to hit hard, so I want you to stand firm for what I'm going to say," he says emphatically. I petrify, I feel doom approaching as if I'm about to fall off a sheer cliff.
“Aziel, the girl is pregnant. And the date of conception corresponds to the day you had sex. There is a good chance that you are the father, by the way, she also gave your name on the registration form at the hospital”.
All the blood drains from my face!..
