I’ll Be Waiting
I walk with Aziel to the company canteen, hungry as hell.
He pre-ordered my food as usual. With his arm around my waist, he helps me sit and takes the seat next to me. The waitress who saw us arrived hurriedly to serve us right away. “Miss Windrug, welcome back. And get well soon to Mr. Winfield,” she says politely. I nod in approval and give her a grateful smile.
Aziel begins his meal lost in thought. “Hey, wait until I've left to think about work again. Am I so uninterested?", I scold him and put on an insulting face. He takes out his hand to caress my face. Surprisingly, he suddenly touches me again today after so long. I suspect now that Danner is sidetracked, he dares to approach me intimately again.
“Who is the man you are in love with? I so hoped it would be me this time, so I could keep you forever at last! Now I have to wait for you again for years till you’re over this fling”, he sighs strangely. I look up in shock, scanning his face whether he's joking or serious. “Aziel?”, I reply questionably. His eyes remain on his plate. “Just kidding,” he replies. “But who is the lucky one? Do I know him?".
With love all over my face, I look ahead. “I think you know him, yes. But we want to keep it low for a while until we are sure of each other”, I quickly make up. "He bought me the new car and a penthouse."
I trust Aziel completely, he is my best friend so I can entrust him with this information. In times of need, I can always count on him. Although Danner often is giving him hard times when I’m absent, he always makes sure that my business runs smoothly, avoiding any conflict with Danner. After the latter, Aziel is the mainstay in my life.
“I can buy you that too, Loraine. If you wanted all that, you could have just told me. There is nothing I won’t give you” Another strange comment. I am now alarmed. “This is yet another ambiguous answer you give me. Are you still in love with me? I thought you were over everything he had before, we talked about it, remember?", I tell him.
He still doesn't look up and I start to feel uncomfortable. The last thing I want is to hurt him, we've been through so much together, so many good memories. I definitely don't want to lose Aziel. A silence develops between us, I'm still waiting for his response.
“Don't worry about me. I'm right here, making sure everything goes well. I’ve nowhere to go than to stay at your side forever. That’s all I meant to say”, he finally says.
He doesn't answer my questions, but I feel relieved at his words. But his earlier words keep bouncing around in my head, Aziel rarely says something he doesn't mean. Maybe I'm too selfish, not taking into account his feelings enough, I muse. In the past, I've abandoned him at Danner's command, not even considering that he would feel hurt or betrayed. And last time, after the mall opened, we went out and I brutally abused him to act out my sexual fantasies after he called me boss. He didn't complain for a second, letting me have my way with him. But Aziel is a sensitive person too. Maybe it's time for me to be a little more lenient with him, especially now that Danner is no longer an obstacle.
In addition, it will really boost Aziel's ego and his respect in the company if I openly show that I am very fond of him, more than friends but not yet lovers. I look at him again and he still eats with a bowed head. It's like he doesn't want me to look him in the eye and read his true feelings. I lift his face with my hand, leaving him no choice but to look at me. Sure enough, I see the pain in his eyes that he's trying to hide.
To his dismay, I place a light kiss on his lips. Besides Danner, I have never shown such affection towards a man in the workplace. Not even during our brief relationship. It goes silent in the cafeteria, everyone stares in front of them as if they haven't seen what just happened.
Aziel clears his throat. He takes my hand, kisses the back and pulls me up. With arms around each other's waist, we walk of the canteen, where a heavy whisper immediately breaks out. The gossip machine in Windgrug&So is in session, this time the stories will be smoother than before. The newsmongers now have first-hand news, hearsay is not among them.
We walk to Aziel's office, he closes the door behind us.
He picks me up, puts me on his desk to sit and stands between my open legs. The kiss that follows is deep, we hug as if it is our life. Breathlessly we let go of each other's lips. “I will wait for you, however long it takes. I'm the right man for you, but you want to explore the world first. Without you I don't breathe, you are my life, Loraine”.
I place my head on his chest. “Aziel, find yourself a nice girlfriend and start your family. Waiting for me makes no sense, you can’t keep yourself like this. What we had is over, I'm in love with someone and that's final," I insist. “I don't want to lose you over this, you are my best friend”.
He caresses my back, kissing me on the top of my head. "We will see. I know what I want, and I can judge for myself whether it is all worth waiting for”.
I say nothing more and enjoy his warmth of his body for a while. After a few minutes I give him a peck on his lips and leave his office...
