“Loraine's husband calls you and you leave like a trained puppy. What about us? We have vacation plans, Andre!”
Dale is furious. He sees his own nefarious plans to win over Andre and eventually strip him off financially later. This extravagant vacation and pampering is an investment for him to recoup later by blackmailing Andre. His first attempt to squeeze millions out of this man failed so he needed a backup plan and Clairy helped him with that.
But now Andre's urge to have a life partner isn't deep enough to ignore his friend's needs and go for happiness with him. Loraine and the son he has with her are still the most important thing to him. But after the conversation between him and Aziel, Dale now starts to doubt whether the boy is indeed Andre's. He considers that Aziel and Loraine both have black tops but still Andre has been in Barbados with Loraine all the years.
Dale decides to check the tabloids later, something isn't right here. A man will never be so friendly with a rival, Aziel only uttered a sentence and Andre jumped up, packed his luggage again and is now on his way out.
“Well Dale, as you can see those plans are canceled, at least on my part. You can still enjoy your time here if you want, there are plenty of tourist groups that will be happy to take you in,” suggests Andre. Angrily, Dale gets off the bed and heads for the bathroom. Andre knows that in there, he will try to control his anger by taking drugs and it will be a while before he shows up again.
But then his eye falls on Dale’s phone on the bed. The screen lock hasn't yet been set in. He quickly runs his finger over the screen, so that the light turns bright again.
He had looked forward to this opportunity. Andre is assured that all his questions will be answered with the text messages Dale constantly exchanges with third parties. And indeed. In order not to lose time, he takes screenshots of the messages with Clairy and his lawyer. Then he sends the screenshots to his own number and deletes them afterwards. He checks on his own phone whether the messages arrived and then sends them to Aziel as a backup in case something happens to his phone on the way home.
He then puts Dale's phone under his pillow and proceeds to handle his briefcase and bag.
When done, Andre calls a taxi and drags his things outside the door.
“Dale!” he yells banging on the bathroom door. "I leave. See you sometime." Then he goes out the door to the lobby of the hotel where the taxi driver is already waiting. “Hurry to the airport”, he instructs the man in a friendly tone. They arrived in no time, Andre pays the driver and rushes into the departure hall. At the check-in counter he is looked at strangely, he arrived barely a few hours ago and is leaving this quick again. When he sees the mistrust on the face of the woman behind the counter, he feels compelled to explain to her. “A family emergency. It's really unfortunate but I really need to go back home."
The woman looks relieved and nods.
“I heard from colleagues that you had treated the plane on your arrival. And now something has gone wrong?” she asks compassionately. Andre knows this is a test. "Yes. When I was at the hotel, I received a message that my family at home is not doing well. My son asks for me urgently and his mother has to rest. And I can't go on holiday with the idea that things are not good at home”. The woman immediately stamps his passport, and he does not even have to pay a cancellation fee.
“I hope you can handle the problems at home and everything will be fine in no time," the woman says as she returns his documents to him. He waves at her and quickly walks to the waiting area. The same plane he came with is now waiting for him again.
When it's time to get in, he quickly grabs his trolley and magazine and rushes to the exit. Everything goes according to plan and when he enters the business class compartment, he collapses in his chair without looking back. The purser comes and helps him put his luggage in the designated space.
Andre bents over and massages his temple with two fingers in an attempt to get rid of the stress.
“Life isn't always that easy, is it? But it's all about the right choices we have to make, doing what's right.”
Andre opens his eyes, but doesn't look back in the direction of the voice. He sighs heartily, now holding his head in his hands. “Sometimes the right choices are the ones you don't want to make. Sometimes the wrong ones are the most attractive,” he replies without locating the owner of the voice. “Yes, it is. The road to hell is paved with diamonds. But eventually, you end up in hell. So then, for me that one less attractive option please, no matter how hard the choice is”, the voice sighs.
“Kenjal Griffith,” the man introduces himself. “On my way home from a business trip”.
Slowly Andre turns to the man in the chair next to him.
“Andre Lacoste from Barbados, living in New York for an unknown period.” When his eyes fall on the man, his eyes widen in surprise. In front of him is an incredibly handsome guy in his early forties. Blond hair on the shoulder, small lips, a soft look in his eyes and breathtakingly gay. There is positive energy emanating from him that draws Andre immediately to him. A relieved smile appears on Andre's face, his whole body relaxes, he feels like a completely different person when watching the man.
"Glad to meet you. It's as if a new world has opened up. Do you have this effect on everyone?” he asks curiously. “Are you really human at all?” The man begins to laugh heartily. "Yes I am human, I have a bunch of friends and they all say it's impossible not to be friends with me," Kenjal confessed. "But I must also say that you have a beautiful personality, you come across to me as someone very reliable and helpful".
Andre has to think about that. “Well, then I'll have to ask my friends about that too. In any case, I don't like dishonest people who make life miserable for others. Nobody benefits from that.” The entire trip to New York, the men chat about light-hearted matters. When it's time to get out, they exchange phone numbers and promise to keep in touch.
As Andre walks to the immigration desk, he finds a sense of strength he never before experienced in this measure. The way he feels now, he can face all the troubles, nothing can shake him to his foundations from now on. Confident, he steps back into New York, ready for the victory of evil...
