Behind Closed Doors
When Aziel drives into Windrug&So's parking lot at high speed, he just sees Clairy being escorted to the police vehicle, screaming and cursing. Loraine's secretary has already informed him of what happened in the office and that she handed Loraine a cup of tea that will calm her nerves. He is now very worried about his fiancée, he knows that she is not very strong mentally for this kind of washout.
When he runs into her office, he sees her sitting back in her chair with closed eyes.
He squats before her, takes her hands in his. “Honey, let's go home. A few hours of sleep will do you good. Don't stress yourself with this case, leave everything to me and Andre, okay?" he whispers to her. Slowly Loraine opens her eyes, nods and quietly lets Aziel lead her out of the building to his car. When he has her safely in the seat and sits behind the wheel, he looks at her intently.
“I don't want you to worry about this, my love. The media will be full of the case, but I want you to skip the posts, not read any of them, Loraine,” he insists. “Will you do that for me? It's going to break my heart to know that your blood pressure is rising and our babies are in danger from this whole affair."
Loraine gives him a watery smile and nods again. And then her phone rings. When she looks at the screen she reads Alyssa's name. “No, not even conversations with journalists. If they do get in touch with you, refer them to me," he tells her sternly. Aziel takes the device from her hand and takes the call. “Alyssa! This is a very difficult time for my family. Loraine is pregnant and I don't want this case to affect her in any way. If you want to know something, please turn to me”, he addresses the journalist.
“Is Loraine pregnant? Oohh gosh, and why am I only finding out now? I already thought she stayed out of the public eye for too long. And now this mess. Aziel, what's really going on?” Alyssa wants to know. Aziel gives her a short description of what happened and that he officially filed a report with his lawyer and Andre today. Clairy was apprehended a few minutes ago in Loraine's study after harassing her and he is now taking her home to rest.
“Be strong Aziel, this is a total mess. The timing is also pretty bad, Loraine is not used to such shocks. She is always protected. I would monitor her closely if I was you," advises the journalist. "In any case, I will write a short article about the arrest and ask for a response from the police myself." Aziel nods in understanding, they say goodbye and he ends the call. Then he looks back at Loraine, who is sitting in the chair with eyes closed again. He presses a kiss on her forehead and quickly drives home.
When they arrive, he picks her up and carries her inside, straight to the bedroom. He helps her undress and freshens her up with a cold cloth. Loraine looks at him gratefully, snuggles in the sheets and lets sleep take over.
When Aziel is sure she is fast asleep, he walks to the kitchen to prepare a late lunch for them. While he's at it, he calls Andre to update him on the latest developments. “Andre, I'm now wondering if our move was the right one now that Loraine is pregnant. Clairy managed to stress her out, you know how sensitive Loraine is mental. Oooh My God! I will never forgive myself if something happens to the babies”, says Aziel distraught.
“Do you have more of that Chinese tea to relax her?” Andre asks. “Otherwise, I'll get another kilo from the grocer. It is not far from where I am now". He too is now beginning to worry about Loraine. He knew the case would get media attention as Aziel is not unknown in this city and a charge of rape by a man is rare. What he could not have foreseen is that Clairy would also go after Loraine. It is now important that they shield her from the further course. Kaylah is due to give birth any time now and has her hands full with little Kasher already, so he shouldn't expect any help from that side. Michelle and Rick have returned to Barbados, Rick has taken over the management of the Yacht club from him.
“I still have a few packs left. Her secretary also gives it to her if she notices that Loraine is getting tense," Aziel said. “I think I will take her to the hospital in the morning for an unscheduled examination. I don't want to take any risks."
The men say goodbye and Aziel continues to prepare the meal. When he walks to the bedroom he sees that Loraine is still fast asleep and decides not to wake her yet. He gets his laptop to do some work while sitting next to the bed and watching over his wife.
Then he notices an email from his lawyer. Clairy was able to hire one of New York's best lawyers. The man demands to see all the evidence on a disk and that the case is being heard in court behind closed doors. His lawyer now asks Aziel whether he agrees to the confidentiality request, which also means that after agreeing, he does not comment on the trial in the press.
The court hearings are already the next day, the court considers this case as high profile because of its seriousness and the known persons involved.
Aziel forwards the email to Andre with the request to advise him as soon as possible. Just to be sure, he texts Andre on his phone to remind him to check his email.
After reading this mail, Aziel is not in the mood to do any more work for his company. Sighing, he closes his laptop, undresses and goes for a warm bath. When he's back in the room, he lays down next to Loraine, pulls her to his chest and falls into a slumber himself...
