Waiting
Loraine stands on the docking jetty, staring out over the bay.
She realizes that she now has to move on in her life without the people who really loved her and were her pillars of support. Now is the time to grow up, take life seriously.
Danner is in prison for a crime designed to bind her to him.
She had a forbidden relationship with Dordrich, which was predicted to end grievously.
And Aziel, her soul mate has a new girlfriend with whom he wants to start a family.
And she, she's been left alone, those she counted on have fallen out of her life, beyond her reach.
At these thoughts, acid indigestion moves with great pressure from her stomach to her mouth. She quickly drops to her knees, bows her head, and forcefully throws out her breakfast into the water. Twice more, her stomach gives out before she falls dizzy on the pier. Some guests on the terrace of the yacht club see her fall and run to her aid. Andre, who’s working in his office, hears the commotion and walks out to see what exactly is going on.
And when he sees Loraine lying on the dock while a number of guests are bending over her, he runs towards them. “Loraine, what happened? Are you unwell? Let me take you to the hospital.” He picks her up and carries her to his car. Carefully she sits back on the passenger seat, when he takes a seat next to her, she slowly opens her eyes. “Please take me home where I can rest a bit. Michelle will be there with me,” she whispers. "Are you sure? Wouldn't it be better to go to the hospital so we know right away what's going on?" She shakes her head. "I want to rest, I'm just mentally exhausted," she let him know.
On the way to her house, Andre calls Michelle. “Hi Michelle, Loraine has become unwell at work and wants to rest at home. If you're not free to stay with her, I will. Under no circumstances do I want her in the house alone in this situation”.
When they arrive at Loraine's house, Michelle is already waiting in the garage.
“Loraine, what's going on?” she asks concerned. She takes her hand while Andre carries her inside and puts her on the bed. While Michelle loosens her clothes, Andre fetches water for her to drink. He lifts her head so she leans against the headboard and lets her have a drink. Loraine looks at him gratefully and takes a few sips. Michelle comes with a wet rag and holds it to her forehead. “Rest for a while and when you wake up you will feel better,” she says softly. Loraine closes her eyes and slowly slips into a dreamless sleep.
But when she wakes hours later with a high fever and cramps in her stomach, Michelle calls in the ambulance urgently. At the hospital, the doctors determine that Loraine has fallen into a severe form of depression and decide to place her in an artificial coma.
Aziel’s POV
With his head bowed in his hands, Aziel sits behind his desk. Despair and disappointment vie for preeminence on his face. Although he had announced his departure himself, he hadn't imagined it would eventually come to pass. He waited for a call from Loraine, he waited day and night, staring at his device. But she didn't call. The conclusion is then easy to draw; Loraine does not need him.
Today is his last working day, the staff has organized a farewell drink for him in the conference room. In slow movements, he picks up the box containing his personal items and walks to the waiting staff members. Many let him know that they will miss him, they were so used to his way of working. Speeches and jokes follow about matters in which he was involved in recent years. It is clear that they want to cheer him up.
Then it's time to leave. A security man helps him carry the box with his belongings to the car. In the car, he goes at high speed out of the company parking lot, towards the highway. His mind is heavy, the prospect of never holding Loraine again, kissing and hugging her drives to the point of madness.
When he gets home, he takes a photo of him with her at the mall from a drawer. “Loraine,” he whispers. ‘After all these years is it so easy to forget me, to let me go without a fight to keep me with you? If you call me now, I'd leave everything behind to be with you again. It's just a phone call away. Do it now, darling, I'm waiting for you!’
But he waits in vain. The minutes become hours, the hours become days. His phone goes silent.
And then he realizes that he has to accept her decision and move on with his life.
Finally, he picks up his phone and calls Danielle. She is still in New York, waiting for him to leave for England and start over there. After ringing three times, the woman takes the call. “Aziel, finally! I'm waiting on you for so long. When can we leave? I've already prepared everything, my family already knows that I'm moving to another country with you," she rattles on.
Aziel sighs deeply, this relationship is stifling. If he wants to give this a chance, patience is his only recourse. Danielle continues to cling to him while he’s fixated on his problems with Loraine.
"I've changed my mind. New York is my home base, I start my business right here. England still appears to be too far from home," he let her know.
“What made you come to this decision? The other day, we weighed up the interests carefully and the opportunities for a new company in England looked good. Why do you still want to stay in New York, Aziel?” Danielle asks in surprise.
‘Waiting for Loraine’, it buzzes in Aziel's mind…
